This is your typical “choose your own adventure” book. It was interesting to see the kids as they try to discover who really stole the crown jewels.
I loved these adventures when I was young. This one is well written. I have only read 18 versions so far. My one complaint is that my fingers get tired each time I start over. I used to cheat and mark the last choice place and go back to try the other options without starting from the beginning. I have not done any bookmarks in this creative adventure, yet.
This book was very fun to read. You can choose how the story will continue so it feels like you’re a character in the book. I like that you can read the book over and over again to see different story lines. It is like a challenge to find the perfect ending. The author did a great job and I like his writing style. I would definitely recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Danger in Monrovia by Paul Moxham
Choose your own way
This intrigued me because there could be so many choices in a book like this.
Starts out with listing of other works by the author and praise for his work.
Each several pages you are given a choice to make.
I have read the Crown Jewels book so this should be interesting with my own twists on the story, as I choose them.
Love this reminds me of the time I made up a secret map of the island we lived on during the summer months and there were clues that you had to follow to collect clues for the next step. If you selected wrong you were in the bay with no oars or boat.
SO cool! Possibilities are endless, days and weeks of reading the book to find different things in a different order.
I ended up dying the first try. So fun to figure it out!
Love this book because of the choices you get to make to finish the story. Excellent for kids of all ages and gender, even adults!
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
Paul Moxham – Choose Your Own Way Bk 1 – Danger in Monrovia – Reviewed 2/15/20 – Read 2/12/20
While on vacation, the King’s crown jewels are stolen, who did it???? A guest or one of the circus members?
Here is the setup – you are a child in 1950s Britain and have been invited by two old friends, Christo and Nadia to travel to Monrovia for a holiday. Your friends, Joe, Will, Amy, and Sarah join you and your all excited. While there you have the opportunity to visit King Otto’s palace and attend his birthday party. One of the best circuses in Europe is performing.
Now, this is what will happen, as the story unfolds you will have the opportunity to change the ending in 22 different ways, plus, you will have 55 choices to do so. How will you do it, and will you survive????
What did I like? I have long been a lover of Paul’s books and have read almost all of them. I still have quite a few to add to my website, but they have all been awesome. This is something so different than what he has done in the past, but I think it is tremendous.
What will you like? Give your child the opportunity to use his brain in other ways than video games, let them choose the outcome of the book that they are reading. It is our responsibility as parents/grandparents to teach our children/grandchildren that there is more in life than getting into trouble. If they are given the chance to build their minds and use them, the world will be a better place. Plus, they will be a credit to themselves. This book will give them that chance and believe me it is an incredible adventure. It took me many tries to finally have the thieves caught and the jewels returned to the King. I am looking forward to my grandchildren’s visit so they will be able to read this book. Be sure to add it to your library too!
