BE SAFE, LITTLE ONE
Once again, Ms. Tessa Carr penned an amazing page-turning thriller that continues from the first story in the series, The Blue Lion. The story has some of the characters from the first story; it is a mystery, romantic suspense, including danger, and more. The second book focuses on Amber Nelson who has recently divorced her abusive husband, Kenneth. It was a five-year marriage that wasn’t with love, it was torture and abuse, and multiple trips to the ER. She walked away from the marriage with her life and freedom, but nothing else. It was during her six-months in witness protection that she discovered herself, and knew she needed to start over.
The plot will have FBI agent Alex Braden, who was undercover for years and played the role of the mute, Grant. He could not contact Amber during the trials, but now he wants to check up on her. I love how he is a gentle giant of a man, yet, he can be firmly strict and loving. He will contact Amber but makes her promise to contact a friend, share his information so that she will feel safe with him. It doesn’t take long for Alex to discover enough about her present situation, the dangerous neighborhood she lives in, and the dominant in him takes over. He knows he must protect Amber, even if it is from herself. He is upfront with her from the beginning of his dominant nature, and they even discuss domestic discipline. He will learn from her, that Kenneth’s form of verbal and physical abuse was referred to his right to spank her, and it was never spanking, but violent beatings and beratings.
“There are two things you’ll learn about me. One is I mean what I say, and two, I say what I mean. Okay, make that three. I don’t compromise when it comes to the safety of those I care about.”
The story is the relationship that develops between Alex and Amber, and it includes them entering into a domestic discipline relationship. One that he wants to keep sex off the table until she is comfortable, but one she pursues with him almost immediately. She will learn quickly that his word is law, and he expects to be obeyed, but his discipline is always loving and fair. He will show her that safety is a big issue with him, especially with too many situations happening involving her.
The story has mystery, suspense, danger, and life and death moments. Yes, it has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. With plenty of love and support, Amber will learn the difference in people, those who care, and those who love her. The story will continue with bits and pieces from book one, and yet, it is another completely different story too. How far will one evil person go to destroy another? How far will one loving man go to prove himself as worthy of a woman? With two different men, as opposite as the East is to the West, and one precious lady in the middle, the pages will turn as the mystery unfolds.
With this being a new series, Cape Danger, I eagerly look forward to the next story.
Characters come alive as the suspense builds throughout the story
—>>> Amber’s life married to a man who has terrified her the last five years takes an even worse turn, one which would have turned fatal for her if not for the intervention of a man she later discovers is an FBI agent undercover. Alex has not been able to get he last victim he rescued out of his mind, and a request to meet with her turns into more than the possibility he was hoping for. The road to a relationship with Amber is not easy since her safety still seems to be at risk, and clearly, her past, which needs to be addressed before they can discuss being together. Alex helps recondition Amber, with firmness, gentleness, patience, and personal attention to her safety and peace of mind utmost in his mind as she finally experiences true love. Enjoyed this read – the characters come alive as the suspense builds throughout the story. I will have to check out the first book in this series as well!

Amber was Kidnapped by a psycho woman that had been in one of her classes. An evil woman who wanted several other people beaten and place in a crematory to get rid of the evidence. Grant was a mute beat her and put her body in the incinerator. Surprise Grant was an undercover FBI agent who took Amber to a safe house. The hero is strong and determined to keep Amber safe. Amber is a sassy, strong woman but can’t see her worth. Lots of mystery and suspense. There was also a bit of steamy action. Great read. Gentle giant and FBI agent Alex meets Amber when she is a victim. Waiting to contact her is hard, but he does it. Introducing a victim of domestic abuse to domestic discipline could be traumatic, but Alex manages it. For Amber, this is her chance for a happy life with a good man who shows his love through warm arms and a hot bottom.. This is a good spanking story although there might be some triggers for some.

What a sweet love story. Amber has been through a lot and she deserves happiness and Alex may be just the man to give her that happiness. Add in murder and kidnapping and you have a great romantic suspense.

Amber is a survivor – of an abusive marriage and of the lunacy in the Blue Lion. Kidnapped, believing she would be whipped and then cremated alive, she survives by holding on to the memory of Alex telling her to be safe. Now, she and Alex are hesitantly crafting a relationship, but she is once again in danger, and the source of that danger is unclear. I can’t write too much about the story – almost anything I said would be a spoiler, and I loved this book too much to do that to you! Let me focus instead on the craftsmanship. Amber is so well-written that she seems real. As a survivor of an abusive marriage myself, her behavior, her thoughts, her terrors are accurately and caringly portrayed. Alex too feels real; he has misgivings, he has doubts about Amber’s safety, and we see some of her friends again – those awesome women from The Blue Lion. The suspense builds magnificently too, and believe me, the twist in that is a surprise/shock. I can’t wait for the next in this series; Tessa Carr will be hard-put to top this book.

I enjoyed this story. It doesn’t have the same level of heart-pounding suspense and creepy psychological thrill factor that hooked me in the previous book. However, I liked getting to know Amber and Alex and watching their relationship progress. I’m guessing it had a lot to do with the overall length of the book, because the progression of their relationship felt a little fast to me. There were also some things that left me scratching my head, but I think most of those were a matter of my preferences didn’t line up with the author’s stylistic word choices. This isn’t a Daddy Dom/Little Girl scenario, but Alex spends a lot of time talking to Amber like she’s five years old. I thought the church mix-up at the end is side-splittingly funny. I was howling with laughter in the face of Amber’s emotional breakdown. A breakdown which doesn’t seem to fit with the Amber we’d gotten to know throughout the book. It doesn’t even fit with Amber’s reactions from earlier in the same scene, so I’m confused by that whole little moment out of time. And I just have to ask: just what the heck does a seven-foot-tall man have to do with ewoks? Ewoks are the very short furry creatures. If the reference had been “wookies” I might not have been as bothered. But I’m still not seeing how a furry Star Wars creature relates to a really tall guy who’s never accused of having an excess of body hair. More appropriate pop-culture references would have been along the lines of Lurch or Andre the Giant – and yes, I realize full well how badly I’m dating myself here. But, a short furry Star Wars creature still has nothing to do with a tall, non-furry man, no matter what kind of a nerd he claims he was.

Amazing job Tessa, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.
This was such a sweet love story even in the midst of mayhem, murder and kidnapping. It is hard to believe that there could be such a sweet man as Alex. Amber had been through so much and deserved every little piece of happiness and even when it looked as though there was a disaster in the making at the end, there was humour and love that jumped off the page. A lovely book.
This second book in the Cape Danger series by Tessa Carr was definitely a suspense-filled action-adventure as the FBI team attempted to resolve multiple criminal events or arson and multiple murders. It was also a beautifully crafted story showing the difference between abuse and tender loving domestic discipline. I felt Ms. Carr detailed these differences in a clear and understandable manner. I enjoyed watching the new relationship between Amber and Alex develop into what can only be described as a full surrendering by each of them to the other as they slowly become almost a daddy/little girl partnership. I have now read and enjoyed all 3 books in this series. This is a voluntary review of this book.
This book is very well-written emotional story that has characters of strength and determination. These characters have been through some bad times and his dominance is helping her heal with her trust in him. This story has so much going on, I could not put it down. This emotional tale with have you feeling with the characters and you fell you know them.

This book is the second book in the Cape Danger series by Tessa Carr but I didn’t read book 1 and had no trouble keeping up with this book. Alex is the FBI agent that saved Amber from a horrific death by a former classmate. Amber is also a domestic abuse survivor. The challenge is Alex is a dominant and it turns out Amber is a submissive. The book revolves around how to reconcile that dynamic into a nurturing, loving relationship. The book does a surprisingly good job at that. The story moves quickly, has some major surprises, and some great twists along the way. Solid Read.
I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and this is my honest review.
