Mia Sheridan can write her a$$ off. This is a given. My life as an author became much more meaningful when I began to read her books. Meeting her through our shared passion for writing and a similar life experience (which occurs in Dane’s Storm) made me feel as if I weren’t in the writing life, or life alone. All I’ve learned about Mia through her writing and knowing her on Facebook has shown me repeatedly what a great down to earth person she is, and what a great wife and mother she is. I know a lot of authors through my experience as an Indie Author, but they don’t all live up to the hype they share on social media, but Mia Sheridan does, and I love her for it.
All that said, it’s time for me to talk about Dane’s Storm. If you’ve read Mia’s stories long enough, you know that she writes a series called, “Sign of Love” novels. Each story features a protagonist who carries a particular zodiac sign. Dane’s Storm is inspired by Cancer.
Dane and Audra fell in love as teens. They marry early, but a tragedy destroys their marriage. Like many women who experience what Audra did, she finds something with which to consume the pain. In her case, it’s her flower shop. Almost a decade passes before they come into contact again. As with any relationship that has lain fallow for such a long time, their early interactions are quite awkward, but they each harbor feelings for the other that doesn’t seem possible after so many years. It’s being foisted into the position of having to trust again after such a devastating tragedy that gets them both. When the plan crashes in a mountainous area in the dead of winter, they are forced to trust each other enough to survive, which may just resurrect the feelings they believed long dead.
Mia’s stories are real, provocative, and entertaining. As with all her novels I’ve ever read, she captures my attention from the beginning and doesn’t let go until it’s fulfilling resolution.
I don’t know how Mia does it. She never fails to bring the deepest of emotions into each of her stories. Dane’s storm is chock full of feelings that will stretch your heart to the breaking point, and slowly piece it back together by the end.
Dane and Audra experienced something that would bring most people to their knees, and the strain of it broke their marriage apart. Now 10 years later, Audra finds herself having to come face to face with Dane again to seek his help.
We know from the blurb that they end up in a plane crash, so I knew this would be a story of how they try to survive that and get help. I wasn’t prepared for all the other things that Mia laid at our feet. The struggle to survive was just one of the obstacles that Dane and Audra faced. They also had to work through what happened in their lives 10 years ago, and all of the strings in the fabric of their lives that were just left to unravel.
Told in past and present chapters, we learn how Dane and Audra met, and what their lives were like “before.” We see the challenges they had to face back then, but their love for each other came across so strongly, I would have thought they could overcome anything. Turns out, they didn’t, and now here they are, stranded alone together in the wilderness with nothing to do but survive and finally address their past.
I have to say, I was on the edge of my seat while reading, scared at what these two people were going to encounter out there in the wilderness. Would they end up freezing to death? Would some wild animal attack them? Would they starve? It was nerve wracking to watch them struggle. But it was more emotionally nerve wracking to be on the sidelines, watching them talk about their past and what they had hoped for, and what went wrong, and what they should have done differently.
Mia always weaves such a complex, emotion filled story that I know I’m going to be mentally exhausted by the time I finish. And I was. But she totally drew me into this story heart and soul, and I feel like I know these characters so well, and like I want to drop in on them at home to see how they’re doing.
What an amazing story Mia! I loved it.
I LOVED it.
This is a second chance romance that is a bit gut-wrenching. The loss that Dane and Audra suffer leads to a heartbreaking outcome that neither got over. Mia’s storytelling draws me in every time because of how realistic the troubles are in the relationship between the main characters. The chemistry is always on fire and I enjoyed the approach the author took on making them fall in love all over again.
“She trusted me. Something that had once been my greatest pride and joy.
Something I never thought I’d see in her eyes again.”
UNPUTDOWNABLE!!!
That’s what this book is!
I’m glad I found Mia Sheridan. Glad I get to read—story after stunning heartfelt story and be left in complete awe of her brilliant writing. This may sound too blandish/excessive—don’t care. It’s the absolute truth. She write stories I LOVE. Stories I can’t get enough of.
Dane and Audra’s story was exceptional. A unique intriguing romantic thriller that was breathtaking to read. So often (in my opinion) romance books lack substance; it’s either too raunchy or too cheesy with no real plot to make the reader venture to the end (least some I’ve read).
This book deals with young love and how a young couple deals with grief, guilt and blame. Torrential elements that ripped them apart—much like a funneling storm-cloud. Will Dane and Audra rekindle their love…after years of distance? Will they press past the things, and people who were the catalyst for wedging them apart?
Find out yourself with this amazing read. You won’t be disappointed.
I’m in awe with Mia Sheridan.
Each one of her books is a masterpiece with pretty much the same efficient recipe:
2 beautiful characters who have terrible past + elements or characters that don’t want them together + a rollercoaster of emotions (a lot of tears, a lot ot hope, a lot of love…) + a beautiful writing (sweetness, poetry, symbolisms…)…
Each time she makes magic with words. She creates a storm of deep and powerful feelings that take control of you and let you overwhelmed and happy.
Each time she adds something new, something surprising. (history in More than words, psychology in Midnight Lily, a dark past for Gabriel in Most of all you, a particularity in Brogan’s personality in Ramsay…).
Dane’s storm is a second chance romance but the “something new” is the survival part.
At 10% i was surprised and proud because i still didn’t cry… Most of the time, with Mia i cry since the first pages. So i was a little confused but stupidly proud. And then… After 10%… I cried a lot… until the last page. The beginning of the book is like the beginning of a movie. We follow Audra in her current life, with her current employees and clients, in the place she loves working… Her current life with her job and her dreams for her job… Nothing more. We don’t know what happened to her to be that way, so detached of personnal goals, with no one to love , no one who loves her…
But something she didn’t expect happen and turn her life upside down. She has to face her issues and her past and chapter after chapter we discover why she erected walls around her.
Then we meet Dane… They didn’t see each other since nearly a decade, since something cruel separated them. But nothing, not even time have erased their love.
At nearly 50% (Mia’s smart !) the story takes a new turn (worthy of a good movie) and our heroes have to fight hard to survive. A new storm that could destroy them like the first one they had some years ago… Except they are older, wiser, stronger and they learnt from their previous mistakes.
“We’d gone to hell once together, again, just a different sort. But this time, we wouldn’t make the same mistakes. This time we were going to link hands and survive.”
Audra and Dane are humans, they made mistakes we can totally get, they’re not to blame, they just dealt with the pain differently.
I loved the way Dane loves Audra. With passion, with his whole heart. They are soulmates and they have a love we all dream for.
Their story is a story of love, grief, surviving, hope…
In each of her books Mia always shows us there’s always light somewhere, somehow… always hope…
“I’d come to realize that any hope… no matter how small, no matter how unlikely, was just that : a wisp of smoke in the misty distance that you headed forward no matter the cost to get there.”
As usual i particularly loved Mia’s poetry (the hellebores, the blue butterflies, the storm, black and white vs colors…)
Mia did us the honor to open a window on her soul a bit more than usually with this book. She’s a beautiful person and that’s why her characters are so lovable and moving. <3
This is the first book I have ever read/listened to by Mia Sheridan. Definitely 4.5 stars.
Told from a dual POV, which I liked. Also moving between the past and the present, which didn’t thrill me, but was absolutely necessary in telling Dane and Audra’s tale. Audra was irritating in many ways, and the beginning was a little slow, but the book gradually speed up and got better.
A Second chance romance between Dana and Audra who fell in love at a young age and experienced some painful losses. Fast forward 7 or 8 years and through circumstances beyond her control, Audra finds herself seeking Dane’s assistance.
Fate or a higher power intervened that caused Dane and Audra to be in a life altering situation of survival. I think the narrator did an excellent job of conveying the pain, fear, and desperation of their situation, as well as the love and gradual healing process they went through.
This book started out being interesting, and gradually became riveting. It stayed riveting until the very end. An emotional rollercoaster of “will they survive?”, “how can can they survive?”, or “is anyone looking for them?”
I admit, I was confused t the beginning because there was a scene with Finn being off the grid. No worries, because it all pulls together. Dane’s grandmother is a hateful person, but her situation ends up being surprising as well.
This is a tale that is full of angst, romance, suspense, action, fear, desperation, loss, love, and a few steamy moments. I would definitely recommend it however you choose to read it. It is an Audible Escapes audiobook.
Wow! This book brought me to tears several times over. I love second chance romances and this book is at the top of the list. When two people so perfect for each other can’t find their way past their own tragedy and later they meet up years later. Their meeting becomes a chance to move past their past but it becomes a challenge in survival. I loved this story so much and it will be one that I read over and over again.
This is a book that I really wanted to read but also it was a heavy read. There was a lot of grief and closure and all the feels. I really liked the book and loved the ending!
Nothing is impossible when love is greater…… This book was beautiful. I had it sitting in my library for a while before I got the courage to listen to it. I knew it would throw me for a loop and it really did. I absolutely loved Dane and Audra’s love was broken by tragedy and they both dealt with it so differently. One shut down, one kept going pretending to be fine. It was such terrible circumstances, but being alone together is what needed to happen for them to both heal. The strength it took to endure the wilderness and the cold as well as their own heartbreak was gut wrenching. The end of the book was actually my favorite, the twists made my heart soar and I got really teary eyed. Just goes to show you, things are not always what they may seem.
I thought….But I was wrong.
I would have never thought Mia (because apparently we’re friends) would ever be able to top Archers Voice but how wrong I was.
This was beautiful. Pure and simple. My heart ached for this couple. This was just something special. Something magical. Something soul searing. It was my favorite book this year. And probably one of my all time favorites. It goes into a category all its own. It fit into no paradigm, no template. It was just beautiful romance at its most filling.
I would recommend this to anyone. Not just romance readers. But those that just enjoy the simple pleasures of reading.
Thank you for gifting us with this, Ms. Sheridan.
heartbreakingly beautiful second chance romance
Dane’s Storm is a beautiful story of second chances and healing through very
difficult circumstances ~ told in only a way that Mia Sheridan can with ALL the
feels.
One of my favorite authors…one of my favorite books by her…beautiful story about love and forgiveness
Mia Sheridan is such an amazing writer. This book had so many feels! Dane and Audra were just perfection. And the grandmother….ahhhh…..I was hoping that would be the purpose of the whole building issue.
Loved this one, I felt so much
Love the premise of this second chance romance. Audra and Dane have so much to work through, with natural elements and circumstances stacked against them. The hurt runs deep within this ex-couple and they really have to peel off the layers in order to heal.
Their feelings are well described, with multiple visits to the past to help set the background of their previous connection and relationship challenges. Overall, a solid read.
Mia Sheridan is like Goldilocks who takes straw and weaves it into gold. Mia takes words and weaves them into amazing stories and Dane’s Storm is no exception! My heart was bursting, filling more and more as each chapter progressed.
A story of love and hope, agony and unfairness, heartbreak and healing. Dane and Audra were once married. Circumstances tore them apart. And now circumstances have brought them back together. The heartache, the pain, the memories are still almost too much for Audra to deal with. But she must. Things are not much better for Dane.
“Oh God, life changed so quickly it could steal your breath – your soul.”
A slow climb while battling the toughest of situations is fought between Dane and Audra. Each reveal of their relationship struck another blow to my heart, obliterating it. Audra is amazing. She is creative, sweet and vulnerable. Dane has an incredible amount of emotional depth to him. It was sitting right there on the surface waiting to be tapped open. Once that occurred, the emotions poured out of him. Dane and Audra share a connection that is soul deep.
“I felt alone, drifting aimlessly into murky waters I didn’t understand and couldn’t navigate.”
The story alternates between the past and the present with Dual POV’s. Things aren’t always what they seem. There are many tender moments between Dane and Audra that are beautifully written. There are a few twists that I never saw coming! The journey that they take will stay with you for days!
“We’d had no idea…God, we’d had no idea about the storm brewing in the distance, heading straight toward us.”
Mia Sheridan has outdone herself once again! This is an absolute must read! It will draw you in and have your emotions all over the place! A deeply touching journey between two lost souls. And that Epilogue! Thank you Mia! I loved it!
“….nothing is impossible when love is greater…”

This was such an emotional story about love, loss, grief, second chances and survival. I was thoroughly engrossed in this book as I listened to everything Dane and Audra went through both then and now. The character development was wonderful and I felt like I was part of their journey. The narrators were good especially Erin Mallon.
I held my breath, cried, and ultimately smiled. It was very emotionally fulfilling, gripping, dramatic and entertaining. Another winner by Mia Sheridan.
Such a beautiful story of love and loss and finding love again with the one person
you were always meant to be with.
What a beautifully real, achingly terrifying and emotionally charged tale of a love so potent it never releases you from its clutches. Through heartbreak and devastation, through time and tragedy, these two people love despite it all, because of it all, through it all. I enjoyed every minute of their journey. They each took a different path in their grief, neither right or wrong, just different, neither capable of truly moving on. Their ordeals and trials were hard and terrifying, but the outcome was their reward. Healing takes time and is different for everyone. I truly felt their pain and hoped they would find themselves together on the other side of it. A beautiful tale worth every star I can give it.
