Ray Bradbury’s moving recollection of a vanished golden era remains one of his most enchanting novels. stands out in the Bradbury literary canon as the author’s most deeply personal work, a semi-autobiographical recollection of a magical small-town summer in 1928.
Twelve-year-old Douglas Spaulding knows Green Town, Illinois, is as vast and deep as the whole wide world that lies beyond the city … wide world that lies beyond the city limits. It is a pair of brand-new tennis shoes, the first harvest of dandelions for Grandfather’s renowned intoxicant, the distant clang of the trolley’s bell on a hazy afternoon. It is yesteryear and tomorrow blended into an unforgettable always. But as young Douglas is about to discover, summer can be more than the repetition of established rituals whose mystical power holds time at bay. It can be a best friend moving away, a human time machine who can transport you back to the Civil War, or a sideshow automaton able to glimpse the bittersweet future.
Come and savor Ray Bradbury’s priceless distillation of all that is eternal about boyhood and summer.

I haven’t read this book for many years but i remember loving the way Ray Bradbury writes, his descriptions of the times , the steaminess of an August summer in the South and life in a small town.
I loved the family dynamics and reminded me of times when I was growing up. The world takes on a magical presence when viewed through the eyes of the children. It takes the reader to a simpler time before we became obsessed with technology and spent more time sharing with each other instead of isolated in the same room while we are focused on …
Ray Bradbury writes a compelling world of life in small town America in the summer of 1928. It is a delightful coming of age tale, one of my favorite books.
Love this book. Love Ray Bradbury! Everyone should read “Dandelion Wine” at least once. Preferably, more than once.
A memoir of sorts, a nostalgic look at one boy’s summer.
Mystically nostalgic
Ray Bradbury was my mentor, so I may be just the tiniest bit biased…! Hailed as the greatest fantasist of the 20th century by multiple reviewers, Bradbury’s knack was to take even the simplest of moments and not only find but show the wonders that lay within. When young Douglas (Bradbury’s middle name) realizes in one moment of a summer’s day …
It was a story within layers of smaller stories. A 12 year old’s summer full of magic and wonder, but also his first understanding of loss with the departure of his best friend. It is filled with the love and charm of a close family rarely seen in our modern, fast-pace world.
Bradbury is one of my favorite authors. He is a very imaginative storyteller.
Having read a lot of Bradbury prior to reading this book, I was not only hooked from the first page, but the novel went in an entirely different direction than I expected. A trademark of Ray Bradbury. This is a great read!
I associate Ray Bradbury with science fiction, people dealing with strange things on foreign planets. I knew Dandelion Wine was a classic, but it took me 50 years to get around to reading it. I’m glad I did. The story is not so inspired, but the characters are empathetic and the writing is beautiful — more like poetry than prose in many …
