Reunion Prom? Is this really a thing? In Wishful it is. Lexi Morales never imagined her life would turn into the premise for an 1980s teen movie. But when her big high school trauma hit like a ton of bricks, she spent the next decade trying to hide the truth. After years of careful avoidance, she’s back in town to care for her injured mother, just in time for the high school reunion she never … reunion she never planned to attend—a reunion that evokes memories she’s tried to forget.
Wishful’s friendly neighborhood photographer, Zach Warren, has no idea why he and his best friend drifted apart. But from the first, flashbulb moment he sees Lexi all grown up, she’s all he can think about—and his thoughts keep straying right out of the friendzone.
Zach’s offer of temporary employment while she’s in town should be a perfect fit, but acting like she’s never thought of him as more than a friend turns out to be harder than Lexi ever expected. All she wants to do is get through this with her secret—and her heart—intact. One thing’s for sure: Lexi is NOT going to this prom.
But what if ten years is just the right amount of time for Zach to finally get a clue?

Another great book from Wishful. Zach and Lexi were friends through high school. Then suddenly Lexi seems to pull away and finally leaves town, ending up in Texas. Zach remains in town and buys the photography business there. He has done well over the past ten years. Lexi returns to town to help her mother who had a fall. She agrees to help Zach with his photography business while she is there since that is what she does in Texas. But the friend thing seems to not be working. Zach must come to terms with how he hurt Lexi when he didn’t go to prom with her and the message he sent at that time. Well written and great characters as always. Find out how two people try to come to grips with their past life.

Warm Southern story about 2 star crossed best friends who get a new opportunity to get things right this time. Warm and funny characters. Uplifting!
Dancing Away With My Heart is a stand alone sweet, sentimental story that perfectly captures the angst that is teenage unrequited love. It’s also another delightful visit to Wishful, complete with everything we’ve come to love about Kait Nolan’s books: small town camaraderie, well written characters, humor and true love finding it’s way through obstacles.
Teen aged Lexi Morales is hopelessly in love with her best friend, Zach, who loves hanging out with her but has absolutely no idea of her feelings. He thinks she asked him to prom as a joke and she buries her feelings even deeper and laughs along with him. Everyone can see how perfect they are for each other, except of course, him.
Ten years later, she comes back to town and finds that her feelings still haven’t changed. Zach? Well, Zach hopes to rekindle the friendship, offers her a job opportunity and is genuinely confused as he begins to see her as something more than a friend…
However, there is a golden opportunity to right a ten year old wrong. Are they both willing to take a chance on love this time? Can she fit her new self into her old dress, her old life and her new place in his heart?

I love to go back to Wishful. While part of a series, each story stands alone. Lexi and Zach were best of friends in high school. But that ended and they’ve drifted apart. Now they have both landed in Wishful at the same time. As with most small towns, it’s impossible to not cross paths. The two reconnect and with the help of their friends find their way back to each other. It’s a quick read with a great cast of characters. There were some old friends and some new faces. Kait Nolan really knows how to write a story that makes her characters feel like friends!

Lexi and Zach were best friends growing up, but then Lexi started feeling more than friendship for Zach, which he didn’t seem to reciprocate, so she started distancing from him.
Now she is back in town, taking care of her mom, who broke her ankle, and working with Zach in his photo studio. This time around Zach is also noticing her as more than a friend but is afraid to do anything that might spoil the easy friendship they have going once again.
I enjoy reading friends to more story and this was no exception. Dancing away with my heart was a quick, fun read, and I enjoyed catching up with the characters from previous books.
Nolan brings readers engaging characters and a sweet small town romance. A long awaited best friends to lovers romance will steal your heart.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the small town romance genre.

Lexi Morales’s unrequited love for Zach Warren and the subsequent heartache and humiliation led her to leave town after her high school graduation. Her mother’s broken ankle has Lexi back in her hometown where she runs into Zach. He immediately realizes the ten years apart have turned his feelings about his best friend from high school into a whole lot more. Since both Lexi & Zach are professional photographers, Zach offers Lexi a job while she’s in town. She agrees with the exception of photographing their 10 year reunion. The theme is “their prom” which was the bane of her high school memories. Lexi is needed at the last minute to cover this event and it stirs the angst in both of them.

Zack and Lexi’s story is very real in that it spells out how adolescent feeling can effect on our adult relationships. Another wonderful tale of Wishful, MS by one of the best authors around.

Kait comes through again. A quick relaxing read. Wonderful easy to relate to characters. It’s always fun to spend an afternoon in Wishful.
I really enjoyed this book! It’s short, and I also couldn’t put it down, so I read it all in a day. I enjoyed the characters and their arc as a couple, and I found the story quite sexy at times, without there actually being any descriptive sex scenes. I think this would make a great summer read-by-the-pool book!!

Kait Nolan, ‘Dancing Away with my Heart’.
As a Booksprout ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is. English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.
Main characters:
– Lexi Morales.
Born and raised in the Deep South of the US. Left her small town, Wishful, (where many of Kait Nolan’s book are situated) to build an own photography business in Austin.
– Zach Warren.
Lexi’s best friend since they were kids. He didn’t understand she had a crush on him at the end of their high school period.
Lexi left Wishful after her graduation from high school. She realised that Zach didn’t react on her small signals that she wanted more than friendship. But during her years in Austin Zach tried to maintain contact with her by Internet. Lexi enjoyed the online messages but, once being hurt, kept her distance.
The story starts when Lexi’s mom breaks her ankle and she returns home to help her. So Lexi meets Zach again. He too owns a photo studio and has a growing clientele. He asks Lexi to help him on a big photo shoot. Lexi loves her job and agrees to do so.
So the author, Kait Nolan, describes how the former best friends become lovers. Not a very original story, but told with charm and love for the small southern town and its inhabitants. The book is a novella, so I missed many of the nice characters figuring in Kait’s other ‘Wishful books’. But also this shorter story was again – for me – a pleasure to read.

I’m never disappointed with a Kait Nolan book, and this is certainly no exception. I absolutely love the Wishful stories. Lexi and Zach have been best friends forever, but this is not your typical friends to lovers novel. It is so much more. It takes a whole “village” for this connection to occur. Spectacular reunion!

Wasn’t part of the Wishful crowd that we knew a lot about. Love reading about these new characters and the relationships. Hope that develops into more Wishful series books! This one is a quick read, but so worth it! Didn’t have a lot of heat, if you are bothered by that!

I just love these Wishful books. This is another great short story in the series. My heart went out to Lexi when Zach couldn’t see that Lexi wanted more than just a good friendship in high school. He made a big mistake that he didn’t even realize. She has been away for ten years, and is now home helping her mother for awhile. I loved how excited Zach was to see her. It is funny how we can let things from high school carry through to adulthood. This book touched my heart, and I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.
Few authors are able to write novellas successfully. Ms. Nolan is one of those talented authors.
The story of Lexi Morales an Zach Warren is a sweet, touching romance about lost dreams, the heartaches of young love and the possibility of second chances.
It’s also a story about friendships that last a lifetime.
Not only are the main characters well developed, but also the plot engaging. Though it’s a standalone, if you have read the previous stories in the series, you’ll get a chance to “visit” with them and see how they are doing.
This is another winner in this series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Loved it!
Kait Nolan is one of my go-to authors.
I always enjoy revisiting Wishful and its characters.

Dancing Away With My Heart is an awesome second chance, friends to lovers romance. Lexi and Zach had been best friends since she moved to Wishful the summer before their freshman year of high school. They share a passion for photography and have each made a career in the field. Lexi had left town after high school because Zach was oblivious to her true feelings for him. Now, she was back home to help her mother heal from an injury and Zach offered her an opportunity to work with him. Finally, after all these years, Zach realizes his true feelings for Lexi but she isn’t willing to take a chance on being hurt again. Zach nearly destroys their second chance. This quote from the book made me laugh and sums up Zach’s situation perfectly: “That’s not even fresh dumbassery. That’s composted dumbassery over years that has fertilized the earth for a truly bumper crop of stupid.” I urge you to read this well-written, engaging story to see how Lexi and Zach overcome all the obstacles as they achieve their HEA.
