Reunion Prom? Is this really a thing? In Wishful it is. Lexi Morales never imagined her life would turn into the premise for an 1980s teen movie. But when her big high school trauma hit like a ton of bricks, she spent the next decade trying to hide the truth. After years of careful avoidance, she’s back in town to care for her injured mother, just in time for the high school reunion she never … reunion she never planned to attend—a reunion that evokes memories she’s tried to forget.
Wishful’s friendly neighborhood photographer, Zach Warren, has no idea why he and his best friend drifted apart. But from the first, flashbulb moment he sees Lexi all grown up, she’s all he can think about—and his thoughts keep straying right out of the friendzone.
Zach’s offer of temporary employment while she’s in town should be a perfect fit, but acting like she’s never thought of him as more than a friend turns out to be harder than Lexi ever expected. All she wants to do is get through this with her secret—and her heart—intact. One thing’s for sure: Lexi is NOT going to this prom.
But what if ten years is just the right amount of time for Zach to finally get a clue?

Dancing Away With My Heart is book 12 in the Wishful series by Kait Nolan. Love this series!!
Best friends, budding photographers, high school prom which he thinks she is making a joke about changes the friendship between Lexi Morales and Zach Warren. Now 10 years later Lexi returns to Wishful to help her mother after she injured herself and who does Lexi run into first but Zach and he wants to pick up their friendship right where they left off in high school…so not happening!!
It’s also their 10 year high school reunion and the theme is their senior prom and Lexi is so not going… too much heartache about that time in her life… but Zach has finally figured out what happened to their friendship all those years ago and is determined to figure out how to repair the damage, give her a prom to remember and show her his true feelings that took him a while to figure out.
Quick sweet read, true to life story, standalone, and visits by former people from other Wishful books!!
This was a great return to Wishful! I really enjoyed Zach and Lexi’s story. Lexi’s feelings were palpable and oh so relatable. Zach was adorably clueless and it was fun to see him catch on. It was nice to catch up with the rest of the Wishful crew as well.

A sweet story but not as exciting or with the twists and turns of the other books I have read by Nolan.
A sweet little novella.
Zach and Lexi are just so adorable! I love the way Kait so accurately captures and conveys the emotions of each character. And the photography-themed descriptors were great, and fit and added depth to the lead characters’ points of view. Another lovely addition to the Wishful series.
It’s the end of an era!!! As far as I can tell – who knows if someone is screaming to be written about, you know how characters tell authors what to do and not the other way around – this novella is the last book of Kait Nolan’s Wishful series and what a wonderfully sweet way to end. While there are references to couples from other books, it’s brief and you could definitely start here to get a peek into Nolan’s style. That said, you might want to check out Dance Me a Dream (#7) as Jace & Tara’s wedding is featured.
At 3 hours, this is a short but lovely best friends-to-lovers novella. While Zach and Lexi were inseparable in high school, his cluelessness drove them apart and sent Lexi running to protect her heart. These two struggling to find their way together is punctuated with hurt and laughter as the rest of the town watches with their best “It’s about darn time!” glances. Zach and Lexi get a lovely HEA in the epilogue and I
Note: While this particular novella is Closed Door/Fade to Black – that’s not the case with most of Nolan’s writing. She has this fabulous mix of small town sweet and snarky with a dash of sexy scenes, perfect when you want some steam that doesn’t take over the rest of the plot.
Amy McFadden does a great job with Nolan’s HUGE cast of Wishful residents. Voices, inflections, personalities from previous books are consistent and that makes this series so easy to binge.
Yet another wonderful small town romance from Kait Nolan. I love Nolan’s imaginary town of Wishful, and I eagerly await each return visit. With this story, we’re back in Wishful but we’re spending most of our time with new characters. This time, we’re with Lexi, a photographer who left Wishful in her rear view mirror and hasn’t wanted to look back. I loved Lexi. She has a lot of spunk and character, and tons of talent as well. She’s returned to care for her injured mother just in time for the dreaded high school reunion—which she had fully intended to avoid. Zach is a former friend who has never quite understood why they drifted apart. Also a photographer, he steps in with an offer for employment while Lexi’s in town, and sparks fly. As always, we meet great supporting characters and watch our hero and heroine grow. I really loved watch Lexi find her way, and have a much different reunion experience than the trauma that drove her away from town. Very romantic and one of my favorite Nolan heroines. I highly recommend Dancing Away with my Heart.

Wonderful story of hurt feelings and a clueless man. No sex, minimal foul language. Happily ever after implied. Strong characters.
Dancing Away With My Heart
This was my least favorite of the 3 books. I didn’t like Lexi. Zach spent most of the book being clueless through no fault of he own. I thought it was interesting that when the lightbulb moment occurred for him, and he tried to address it, he still was made to feel at fault.
I felt like it wasn’t fair that Lexi knew what was wrong, held on to it and let it simmer for 10 years, and Zach had no idea what was going on.

This is another great story set in the wonderful small town of Wishful. It is well written with loveable and captivating characters. I enjoyed reading and recommend.
Lexi and Zach were best friends for years. Now they have a chance to get that back – and so much more. If they learn to take chances. A great read!
This was a fantastic read . Could not put it down.had to keep turning over the page and got lost in the story
I have been provided with a review copy of Dancing Away With My Heart by the author for an impartial review. This novella is a part of the Wishful Romance series. I really enjoyed getting to back into this amazing world with its awe-inspiring characters. I just really enjoyed this story and getting to go along for the ride. I loved getting to see Lexi Morales and Zach Warren find their way to each other. It was just such a beautiful story and I was sad to see it end. I can’t wait to read more wonderful stories from this author.
Lexi and Zack were best friends in high school, but due to a misunderstanding on Zack’s part–typical teen boy–Lexie’s heart was broken and she moved away. Although she’s back to care for her mother, Zack still is oblivious to what he caused years ago. Although there is no sex scene, the language was a little much. Not necessary, IMO. That’s the only reason I’m giving it 4 stars, instead of 5. But as always, Kait delivered a fast read, sweet HEA story.
Dancing Away With My Heart – Sweet Heat!
I love any opportunity to return to Wishful and Dancing Away With My Heart is no exception. Once again, Kait Nolan captures the intimacy of small town living as Lexi returns to her hometown to help care for her mother and runs in to her long lost best friend and former secret love Zach. Zach and Lexi slowly fall into step again but both struggle in resuming their friendship each holding back. Although a novella, Kait renders such rich character development for which she is known and leaves the reader routing for these characters to have their HEA.

Kait Nolan has another winner!
I read this story in 2 settings and enjoyed it so much.
The characters were likable and real.
The plot was well written and kept my attention all the way through.
Dancing Away With My Heart is another delightful visit to small town Wishful. It is also a perfect stand-alone. Lexi and Zach were best friends during high school with a shared love of photography but Lexi left and Zach stayed. Ten years later Lexi is back. This is their story and it is so honest and well written. Lexi reconnects with old friends but old memories and misunderstandings are preventing her from connecting with Zach on anything other than work. It is lovely to catch up with some favourite recurring characters from previous books and of course the Wishful fountain gets a mention. The ending is brilliant, amusing and so romantic. I loved this book and cannot recommend it highly enough.
As usual Kait Nolan has us spoiled with sweet stories set in Wishful. Her fantastic writing gives us the embarrassment of unrequited love mixed with the hope of what could be. Zach and Lexi emote the reader to look back on prom and the delicate balance of opposite sex friends. Interspersed with glimpses of other characters what’s not to love!
I wish I lived in Wishful with the wonderful people who inhabit it. I love that that seem so real, quite a few similar to those I know. That’s why I love reading this group of books. I find myself smiling which is a good thing.
