“Handing his HOPES, his DREAMS, and his desires over to the Lord and leaving them there would be the hardest thing he’d ever done.” – Dan Ranta. Valerie Comer weaves a gut wrenching contemporary story and romance of a Prodigal Daughter – Dixie Wayling, mother of three young children Mandy, Buddy, and Henry. Dixie struggles with self- worth. Dan struggles with his ex-wife treatment of her children and relationship with him. Page turning plot with some unexpected twists and lots of conflicts between Dixie and Dan, family and community members; which is resolved in a believable manner. We ALL have the capacity to love infinitely.
Dan and Dixie’s story is truly amazing. Dan is a wonderful man. The way he raises Dixie’s children is truly inspirational. When Dan decides he has to change his life style Dixie can’t understand it and fightings him every step of the way. Valerie Comer is a wonderful author who I am honored to be on her review team. Every book Valerie writes is better than the previous one. You will be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.
Dixie wants to see her kids and doesn’t mind watching them most times as long as Dan leaves out his comments about his faith. Dan wants Dixie to be a part of his life, as in getting married. When Jacob challenges him with a question, as well as some others voicing pretty much the same, he finds himself backed into a corner, but also that he needs to ponder if what they are saying is right. Love the story and the growth of the characters, plus seeing others from our smallish town of Bridgeview.
I cannot state with mere words what this story has meant to me. I adore Valerie Comer’s books and have read every thing she has ever published. And, yes, I always say “this one” is the best so far, “that one” has touched me in a special way, or I loved “this hero or heroine”, etc.
I will read this story again and again in the years to come because we all need the reminder we are never good enough for God’s mercy, that is why there is Jesus, and no matter where we have been or what we have done, He will always welcome us home with arms open wide while…everyone celebrated with overflowing joy. I wish I could write like Valerie Comer so that I could fully express how much you all need to read this story, lol!
Oh my goodness, what a picture is painted in this book of changing relationships. A couple, both far from God, one finds God and the other runs. A painful look at running from God but a super look at finally submitting. Very well done. Very well written. Highly recommend. I received an advance reader copy from the author. Opinions are my own.
