This is the most entertaining retelling of Cinderella I have read. It was refreshing to have it set in China.
CUTE
I loved this book and could not wait until work was over to finish it. It was awesome abd empowering. I plan to read more of her books. What great ideas abd the characters were so awesome.
Loved its Cinderella take, especially its setting in ancient China. It also reminded me of Mulan with the heroine disguising herself as a boy to help her family. I loved that she was spunky and a good swordsman beating the prince and calling him Rooster. I really enjoyed it.
Loved it
I liked the fairytale style and still kind a modern.
Just the right touch of magic
Mixture of a bunch of fairy tales
A little too Mulan, but if you never saw the movie, a good read. I like that the prince had a brain, and the use of magic was a nice spin.
different rewrite on this fairytale
There was so much ancillary stuff going on in this book, I wasn’t feeling the relationship between the main characters.
To much of the movie Mulan feel to it, with Cinderella spin.
I love fractured fairy tales and this one is so different and creative.
Loved this story. It talks about a fathers love for his daughter and what he is able to teach her. She in turn uses those lessons to her advantage when as a man in disguise, she enters the fighting force. Wonderfully and compassionately told.
You will fall in love with the main female character. She is a lot like. Mulan in a sense, but still her own person. She does what any good daughter would do and becomes bad ass. I couldn’t put the book down. The magic is good and fits into the story, bit doesn’t overwhelm it either. It is a great blend of cinderella and mulan. So, if you like both, you’ll be in for a treat!
An interesting Cinderella spin-off filled with human kindness and realistic details about ancient Chinese culture.
I love fairy tales, and I also love fairy tales retold. This was very nicely done with quite a different twist. Very enjoyable.
Cinderella meets Mulan. I was quickly drawn into this retelling, but about halfway through it got more choppy and it pulled me out of this new world a bit. The ending felt a tad rushed and there were (what I assume to be) cultural things at play that were not fully explained, but I still enjoyed it!
More Mulan than Cinderella not original not really much to like just a quick read.
I really enjoy re-tellings of fairy tales. This one had a clever twist. Entertaining.
