Billed as a Cinderella retold, I thought it was a mixture of Cinderella and Mulan. Very engrossing story with several unexpected plot twists!
Unusual take on a fairy tale
The book was entertaining and I couldn’t put it down. The plot was interesting, even though we know it was impossible, but the fantasy was fun.
This was fun and it made me read more of her books. She does a very good job with her spin on this genre, and creates very entertaining and original stories.
The author did an excellent job of reinventing the fairy tale. Using an entirely different culture as the backdrop brought the story a new life. Very believable characters and situations. Good ending.
Interesting characters.
Did not care for this book.
A quick read for lightweight entertainment
It was a blend of Cinderella and Mulan really. Interesting read, it was still a juvenile book even though there were times when mature topics were brought up, the main character looked or listened to such things with naivety, it just went over her head. If such topics did not phase the main character and the book is from her point of view, then why put the mature topics in the book?
Anyhow, the setting was well detailed and it stayed true to the fairy tale medieval theme it promised to its viewers.
Worth a read, for light reading and immersing in fairy tale world.
Easy read but I kept thinking about the movie Mulan while reading it.
Like the story of Mulan
A good read.
An unusual twist on Cinderella. Nicely written.
This was a fun retelling of a classic fairy tale.
The characters and world are so vivid I can see them as I read.
kind of a mix of Mulan and Cindrella
This book was touted as a re-telling of Cinderella, but it was so much more… It was a wonderfully told story, set in feudal Japan or China (I’d go more with China than Japan as the swords described were not Katanas. It doesn’t matter. The main characters were so life-like that the country didn’t matter. I went looking for the author, which is how I found her page. I’ve bookmarked it so I can return again and again. If you haven’t read it, you are in for a treat.
It was a poorly done Mulan in a book. Just bad.
It’s like a twist between Cinderella and Mulan. I love it.
It was a mix between Cinderella and Mulan. Entertaining but you knew what was going to happen.
I enjoyed the fairy tale retold, especially interesting with the gender-bending twist. Its a quick read ( long short story) but enjoyable. I like it enough to get another one of her books.
