Dance: Cinderella Retold by Demelza Carlton – Cinderella via Mulan was really cool! Demelza Carlton does some really neat world building! Happy Reading!
The author did an excellent job of combining the stories of Mulan and Cinderella, giving us a story like the Chinese legends that my mother is so fond of. This has the same feel and depth as Disney’s real action movie Mulan, without the flashy special effects. This is a romantic adventure that any fairytale enthusiast ought to enjoy.
Very well-written retold fairytale with a strong, independent heroine
Really enjoyed this well-written, retold fairy tale which seems to draw from Mulan and Cinderella. It’s appropriate for adults and young people alike, a bit of war and disfigurement (the Chinese tradition of binding a little girl’s feet) but not too graphic, and the romance is just that, feelings unacted upon. I like sensual stories but this does not need it.
I received a copy of this book at no cost from the author. This is my honest review.
A fantastic tale. While it has the elements of Cinderella, they definitely have been rearranged in a manner wholly different but exceedingly fine.
True to form. Fairytale with no full ending. The prince gets the girl. The story here was in the way things happened. The unique telling of these timeless stories. There was a combination of tales in this story. The beauty was the way that this story came to be a combination of two beloved Disney tales with a spin unique to this particular story. The dance was more than what was passed down to the next generation. It turned in to so much more than an outsider looking in and finding a bonding moment between father and daughter. This time around the wicked step-mother was something more. The step-sisters were a different kind of cumbersome.
Narrator Mary Sarah has a very beautiful voice that transcends the fairytale realm. She has the ethereal quality of fantasy. I do warn those that choose to listen that my views of this audio my be skewed by the fact that I do not listen under normal speed, too slow. I do speed up my audio and find that the speed can match that of the story being told and lend a different light to the immersion in to the story.
Caution lots of blood, spell, gender switch . . .
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Demelza Carlton. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
Was more like Mulan than Cinderella but still a good read and a great twist to the fairy tales.
Definitely a different twist on Cinderella. The Dance refers to Martial Arts.
To win her Father’s favor, she trains in Martial Arts. She then goes off to war to fight pretending to be his son. Her step mother has no use for her at home and her step sisters are being prepared to be acceptable for the Court.
It was boring and poorly written.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the main characters and I can’t wait to read more of this series. Well worth the time spent reading it. I want to dive into the next one.
Loved these characters. A different twist to Cinderella. A must read.
Absolutely fell in love with the characters in this book from page one. Well paced, fun, and just purely enjoyable.
I enjoyed this remake of the Cinderella story. Nicely done. I recommend this book, and will be watching from more books from this author.
Didn’t think I’d like it at first, but I became engrossed in the story.
Fun fluffy retelling, felt a bit like Cinderella meets Mulan. Quick and easy read, definitely worth picking up if you just want a little escape.
It’s the movie Mulan with a Cinderella shoe twist.
a great mix between Mulan and Cinderella
A very good read.
I liked this story about a girl who goes to war in her father’s place and falls in love. Like Mulan! Her evil stepmother casts a spell to hide who she is and the girl has to figure out how to fight in the war and to win the guy.
I enjoyed this Mulon becomes Cinderella story – Predictable, but a good read.
