#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts—hailed by Publishers Weekly as “a storyteller of immeasurable diversity and talent”—presents the first book in her Three Sisters Island trilogy. When Nell Channing arrives on charming Three Sisters Island, she believes that she’s finally found refuge from her abusive husband—and from the terrifying life she fled so desperately eight months ago… desperately eight months ago…
Careful to conceal her true identity, she takes a job as a cook at the local bookstore café—and begins to explore her feelings for the island sheriff, Zack Todd. But there is a part of herself she can never reveal to him. One careless word, one misplaced confidence, and the new life she’s so carefully created could shatter completely.
Just as Nell starts to wonder if she’ll ever be able to break free of her fear, she realizes that the island suffers under a terrible curse—one that can only be broken by the descendants of the Three Sisters, the witches who settled the island back in 1692. And now, with the help of two other strong, gifted women—and the nightmares of the past haunting her every step—she must find the power to save her home, her love…and herself.

This is one of my favorite books, and trilogies, featuring witches as the main characters. The Three Sisters Island Trilogy is full of magic and friendship, and set in a world you’ll want to visit again and again.
The three sisters trilogy has always been one of my favorites by Nora Roberts. I can immerse myself completely in the story and identify with the characters. I’ve gone back many times since I first read the series and found myself swept away from all my stress for a few hours.
The first of the Three Sisters Trilogy is a fun read. Nora Roberts sells millions of books for a reason – she is really good at what she does. All three books in series are available, so grab them all and head to the beach or the pool.
Dance Upon the Air (Three Sisters Island #1) by Nora Roberts – Nell Channing is on the run from her abusive husband. After faking her death and working her way across country, she takes the ferry to Three Sister’s Island. As the long awaited third in a triad of witches doomed to face the same fates as their ancestors, Nell only has one chance to break the pattern. Nell, Mia, and Ripley have their work cut out if they are going to keep the curse from returning their island to the sea! Love this series! Happy Reading!
Overall pleasant enough and I will read the next two books.
Been a few years since I first read this trilogy and this book is the best of them.
Having read most of them more than once, I can safely say Nora Robert’s trilogies are fairly predictable.
Her characters act similarly, they behave similarly and they react similarly but they always give me a pleasant reading time.
Though I sympathised with her situation, I found Nell faking her own death, then thinking she could settle and live a life of peace, ignorant and OTT. There are many places to go that help anyone in an abusive situation.
Loved the witchcraft side of things but once again we get the similarities to other trilogies. One woman, serene and in control with a lost love. One who is strong of character, even belligerent, who fights her destiny. And one who is weak, abused and in need of friends and inner strength.
We get the sisterhood aspect partnered with the practice of witchcraft and the inevitable slow fall into love of one couple in each book.
Enjoyed the characters and thought the husband was dealt with too quickly, with not enough punishment given for his actions.
Enjoyed this book as part of the series. Very entertaining.
These days, I find myself re-reading old favorites and this series by Nora Roberts is one of those. This may be the 10th time I’m reading Nell and Zack’s story and falling into the world of Three Sisters Island and I love it just as much. If you love romance, close friendships, and a hint of magic, check this trilogy out!
Dance Upon the Air is the first in Nora Roberts’ “Three Sisters Island” paranormal romantic suspense trilogy. The three heroines in the series are witches (the good kind!), and together they fight and defeat evil. Dance Upon the Air has a central theme of domestic abuse, which can be disturbing, but be assured that the book ends happy. This series is as much contemporary romance as it is paranormal suspense, so those who aren’t fans of paranormal fiction will still enjoy this series.
Nora Roberts is a master at creating scenes with few words. I didn’t enjoy the occult aspect of the book, but her wonderful characters carry the story.
My favorite series
Every Nora Roberts book is great
Great Series!!!
Loved it
This is a great series that takes place on Three Sisters Island, which is a place Nora Roberts made me want to visit. I loved the characters and storyline, which has made this one of my all-time favorites.
Book 1 in the thrilling paranormal ‘Three Sisters Island’ series.
Rating: PG->17: sexual content, violence, triggers for domestic violence and spousal abuse and discussions of what that entailed. I own at least two copies of these books [paperback and trade size] and this is my third time reading them.
You have to hand it to Roberts. She can create a world where you want to be friends with the characters and travel to the community in which they live and work. It is just a feel-good atmosphere that draws you in and you want to be a part of it. Since there are thousands of reviews, there is no need for me to go into detail regarding the plot. I just want to recommend this as a feel-good paranormal story about finding yourself, a love-ever-after and discovering one’s destiny.
I loved the characters of Nell Channing, Sheriff Zack Todd, his deputy and sister Ripley, the bookstore owner Mia and let’s don’t forget Lulu. I loved these guys. I also fell in love with the people on the island and wanted to meet them and be a part of their community. Actually, there were a lot of characters in this story but it never felt crowded because I was drawn into their daily existence. They became real to me and reminded me of friends I’ve had and neighbors I’ve lived near. Roberts made this community come alive for me and I found myself caring about these people and the threat against them. I can’t wait to read the following books as we journey toward that finale with darkness.
The dark side: There are triggers for those who have dealt with abuse of any kind. Roberts did not hold back as she exposed the underbelly of that cruel side of people bent on controlling another, or taking their power. But with this dark side, Roberts gave her heroine back her strength as she came into her power. It was amazing as we watched the unfolding of freedom for one, we had come to love. It was well done.
Book 1: Dance Upon the Air: [Nell & Zack]
Book 2: Heaven and Earth: [Ripley and Mac]
Book 3: Face the Fire: [Mia & Sam]
I loved this trilogy but Nora Robert’s trilogies are always good..
I absolutely loved this book and the trilogy! Have reread it many times and love it every time! Highly recommend!!
This book was part of a series which involved magic among sisters.
Totally loved the entire trilogy.
