At long last, the legendary New York Times bestselling author returns with a heartfelt novel of womanhood, a wild heart, and the healing power of love.Run, run, as fast as you can! When life throws her one setback too many, midwife and young widow Tess Hartsong takes off for Runaway Mountain. In this small town high in the Tennessee mountains, surrounded by nature, she hopes to outrun her … surrounded by nature, she hopes to outrun her heartbreak and find the solace she needs to heal.
But instead of peace and quiet, she encounters an enigmatic artist with a craving for solitude, a fairy-tale sprite with too many secrets, a helpless infant, a passel of curious teens, and a town suspicious of outsiders, especially one as headstrong as Tess. Just as headstrong is Ian North, a difficult, gifted man with a tortured soul—a man who makes Tess question everything.

If she writes it, I read it.
Absolutely loved this book. SEP has turned into a favorite author of mine after reading this book, a first of her tales for me. Loved the characters and the storyline. I didn’t want it to end!
Not your every day romance! I was glued to this stirring story that is unusual and a balm to my heart! Thank you Susan!
I loved this woman! Tess sticks by what she knows to be true despite the small minds and poorly informed opinions of the small town she ran away to. I loved the midwife serving women’s needs amid controversy. I so love Susan Elizabeth Phillips writing! I read everything she writes!
Susan Elizabeth Philips is one of my favorite authors. She has a way of telling a story that draws me in and makes me wish the characters were real.
Dance Away With Me tells the story of a woman grieving the loss of her husband, a famous artist struggling to reimagine himself, and a newborn baby that brings them together in a small town in Tennessee. Lots of big emotions and events to deal with as they all struggle to find love and acceptance. And dancing is one way of handling all that.
I was thankful for a lazy, rainy weekend so I could escape into this book. Definitely recommend!
This book has it all & then some! What a story teller this author is, I have all of her books in my library & have re-read them all more than once.
This book is vintage Susan Elizabeth Phillips. If you love her previous work, you’ll love this one, too!
SEP is outstanding. I’ve read all her books—sometimes more than once!
4.5 stars
I haven’t read a Susan Elizabeth Phillips book in two years, and that’s two years too long. If you’ve read her books before, you know what I’m saying. You know what you’re in for. If you are a first time reader of SEP, hang onto your hat.
One thing that gets me every time is this author’s skill at making me abhor the hero before I fall in love with him. And, unlike with a lot of other heroes out there, I will hate the him for a good portion of the book. The depth and truth of who Ian is was revealed slowly, bit by bit. Every time I thought I was getting to his redemption portion of the story, he’d say or do something else to annoy me. Yet, I couldn’t get enough of Ian North.
I love a heroine who knows her own mind, even if she gets a bit too headstrong. Trust me when I say Tess is headstrong. As a women’s health specialist, spending most of her adult life as a midwife, Tess can’t help but help. Be it the teenagers in town, the pregnant neighbor, or the little boy who lives off the grid. When people ask for help, she gives them help. Even when she knows it will bite her in the butt eventually. Even when some of those people aren’t so nice to her in public. She’s a caregiver to the very depth of her soul. She may not want to be that person, she may be looking for a change, but she’ can’t get away from her true self.
The way in which Tess and Ian first get to know one another sets them up to dislike each other. Not for any good reason but their misunderstanding as to who the other is and what they represent. To even forge a friendship between them is exhausting. But, once they are thrust together with not much of a choice but to be in close proximity much of the time, their similarities become more obvious.
There is a lot to this story. Many layers and a lot of depth. So as not to give too much away I’ll stop here. Just know that this story is a true SEP tale. Meaning, as much as you want to slap the hero and heroine, you won’t be disappointed in the end result.
Like all her other books, great storyline, page turner.
This book held my attention from page one.The storyline was compelling, yet easy to follow each character. I enjoy each book I have read by this author!
This is an entertaining, well-written, steamy, contemporary romance novel. It has likable, engaging characters, heartbreak, small town drama, and a heart-warming romance.
I will read anything she writes!
Midwife heroine, running from an old life where she’s still mourning the early death of her childhood sweetheart husband who passed two years ago, moves to small town Tennessee to escape. She befriends the pregnant wife of an eccentric street artist who lives close by. Baby born way early. Great story of the development of all involved characters, making a place for themselves in this unique community. Susan Elizabeth Philips never fails to deliver.
Susan Elizabeth Phillips is someone you’d want to be your bestie. I should know. I’ve gone to more than a few of her workshops (she doesn’t know me–I’m the one who spent a lot of workshops hiding in the crowd). She’s fun, has a clear view of growing your craft, and is a passionate storyteller. When I first started reading Dance Away With Me, I thought, how in the world is she going to get these two broken people together? With an acute understanding of the human heart and some brute force, she managed a miracle. Isn’t that what finding the love of your life is? A miracle? This book is emotional, a bit of a nail biter, and her very best work. If you’re interested in going on the ultimate adventure, find a nice cozy nest and read this book.
Author Susan Elizabeth Phillips (SEP) is on my Must Read list, and I love her books. But be forewarned, while most of her books include humor, they are often emotionally intense. This one is no different. Given the stress of the world right now with coronavirus and politics and more, I’ve been gravitating towards light, funny books, but I couldn’t pass on reading Dance Away With Me. SEP puts her characters through the emotional wringer, and the reader is along for the ride. Since these are romances, you know there is a guaranteed happily ever after waiting for you at the end of the book. But there were times I was so frustrated with the heroine’s choices, I almost stopped reading the book. However, SEP’s wonderful writing drew me in and onward to the romantic ending.
5 Dance away with me Stars
I am a diehard SEP fan. I usually have her books read as soon as they are published but with this one I missed it for some reason. When I went onto goodreads to investigate I saw a bunch of mixed reviews and was thinking to myself “What is going on here?!” I nearly didn’t buy it because of course her publisher has a very high price for her eBook’s which I really don’t like but I bite the bullet and bought it.
Tess has escaped to a cottage in the mountains to escape from the pain of her past. She really hasn’t escaped it all, nothing seems to help not even dancing in the middle of the night in the rain to music the dead could hear it’s so loud.
Ian has escaped for an entirely different reason. He needs to find his mojo again. He needs to develop as an artist but he’s just not sure how to do this and with all of the distractions around him is it no wonder!
SEP has stepped outside her writing style box. She is normally a light-hearted story kind of author and this was pure dark, painful and full of two lost souls trying to find their way. I loved it and would highly recommend reading it.
This has got to be the best book I’ve read in a long time! You know every book you read you think is good but this book far surpasses good! This book is exceptionally extraordinary!!! This is a definite must read for everyone except maybe thriller/horror addicts. Do not miss out on this fabulous, fantastic, superb, amazing book! Enjoy!
“Dance Away with Me” by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Loved this story. Read it twice and then grudgingly returned it to my state library. It was worth the wait for my turn to download this story from my state library. It was a very good team that created this audiobook… the author and the narrator a winning pair. Happy Reading ! !
Great Read
