This was my first book by Vic Tyler and I LOVED IT! It was so intriguing and unique. It was raw and gritty. It was dark and twisted and full of angst.
One of my favorite aspects of this book was getting to really see and experience Damien’s inner turmoil. His fight for control, for vengeance and for those he cares for despite his struggle to grasp the emotions and situations he faces. While he frequently tried to downplay his feelings, I enjoyed seeing his protectiveness and love for Adrianna. I thoroughly enjoyed their relationship, particularly within the first half of the book. Seeing this little girl feel like she has a protector. That she could be a kid again and jump in his arms, laugh and enjoy her life after everything she went through.
Adrianna, albeit naive, she was just a little girl when she met West and the Twelve. She lost her biological family, so the West Faction Venti became her family despite their protests. She was like a bullet flying into their lives, and she just became a permanent fixture.
I really loved the various dynamics and being able to see this dark and gritty side of the underground world. But despite these mercenaries being cold hearted, we got to see (at least from some) that there is more to them. That this life was chosen for them and that they have had to adapt to this life. But when sweet, innocent and pure Adrianna came into their lives that dark fissure cracked open and light started to peak through.
Exactly the kind of dark romance I’ve been craving for a while now!
I don’t know what I was expecting when I started my ARC of Damiens Promise by Vic Tyler – an author I’d never read before and that was completely new to me. But WOW, did she knock this out of the park! Damien’s Promise is probably my best dark read of 2019 so far.
“Weakness is fatal. Those words are more than a warning.
They are a threat.
They are law.”
Set in a crime underworld where pain, punishment and bloodshed is religion, the book centres around the Western area of the world. It’s divided into 4 sectors, each having their own leader – Northridge, Eastwood, Southwick and Westlake. The last is the man you’ll love to hate and hate to love in this book.
I would like to stress that this book is in NO WAY PARANORMAL OR FANTASY! It’s very much set in a HUMAN world.
Our hero (or anti-hero even) is complex, and scarred and beautifully fucked up. Young, suspicious and incredibly strong and talented, Damien will have you sweating, swooning, aroused and a tad bit afraid all at the same time.
“What does that say about me? I’m not really sure. And honestly, I don’t fucking care.”
“And that’s what tonight is. Rebirth. Revival. Resurrection.
I was born Damien Costa. I was blood–christened as one of many nameless deviants.
And now, I am Damien Zephyrus of the western faction’s Twelve.
But don’t get comfortable with it.”
I know, right?! HAWTTT!
Adriana was many things and I don’t think I truly know how to describe her. She’s gutsy as hell to do what she did. The girl has a major pair of balls on her. I can salute her for that. For the lengths and how far out of her comfort zone she went for her long overdue vengeance. I’m so pumped and absolutely aching for book 2, Adriana’s Temptation to release. I’m hoping to get more into her head and thought process and see A LOT more of her in the future. Judging from the teasing glimpse I got in the end of book 1, Adriana really toughness up and holds her own against Damien – the man she melted for once – and you’ll see her true strength in book 2. I can’t wait!
Wow, I must say this is definitely an unexpected read. I love the twists and turns, unexpected surprises as well as shocks. Vic has out did himself with this one so much that I don’t mind the violence. I definitely loss sleep reading this book, it’s hard to put down once you get into the story. As for the characters they are truly full of surprises and very interesting. I’m looking forward to the next book.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Damien’s Promise (VENGEANCE Trilogy,1) by Vic Tyler
This is a very intense story about Damien and Adrianne. Also Cardinal West as the head man and 12 deviants, Damien is the youngest one. Adrianne family was murder and comes to seek Cardinal West help. This story is so interesting and weaved together with so much great skill by Vic Tyler I had a hard time putting the book down. The characters are so amazing and well developed that I just found my new number one book. I want to reread this book again just to see what I might have missed. I wish I could give this a higher star rating. I highly recommend this be your book next to read. This story includes violence and very steamy sex. It is twisted and scary but the best of the best books I have read. I can’t wait for the next book in this trilogy comes out. I received an advanced reader copy and have voluntarily chosen to leave a review. This is my honest opinion.
I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect when I downloaded this book as Vic Tyler is a new-to-me author, but I was completely blown away with the intricate storyline and the quality of this author’s writing. Vengeance is dark, twisted, and full of action and suspense which is sure to keep you entertained until the very end and leave you craving for more. Admittedly, it took me a few chapters to really get into the book, but I believe that was more of my mindset than the author’s writing. Once I got past the 8% mark, I was fully engaged and only my kindle dying from a dead battery would have pulled me away.
Venti is a crime syndicate – “a body of mercenary criminal consultants” where weakness fatal and violence is a given. Damien is a member of the venti and while he has gone through many trials and tribulations within the Venti and is a skilled killer, he still manages to hold onto as much of his humanity as possible. I love that while he is out for revenge, he is also very protective of Adrianna. Adrianna is a strong heroine who is full of spunk, determination, and resilience and I enjoyed watching the affect that she had on others. Both characters experienced great loss and suffered from great horrors and both are survivors.
Damien’s Promise is full of complex, damaged characters that have their strengths and their flaws. This book is told from a dual POV which I think really helped with character development and in learning to understand the thought processes behind Adrianna’s and Damien’s actions seeing as they both pull some bone-headed things. This novel spans over 5 years so it was interesting to watch how the two went from being more like siblings to Adrianna having a teenage crush to them both having mutual attraction towards each other. So while I would categorize this specific book in the Vengeance trilogy as a suspense, I would not call it a romantic suspense, but I do see the potential for books 2 and 3 to have more of a romantic albeit a dark romance aspect to them. Damien’s Promise is full of action, twists and turns, and shocking revelations which kept me entertained until the very end. Seeing as this is book 1 in a trilogy, there are questions that are not fully answered and there is quite the cliffhanger. It should also be noted that is a dark suspense so there are potential triggers that the author mentions in the blurb such as violence, discussion of sexual abuse, and explicit (consensual and of age) sexual situations. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
It’s the second book I’ve read from this author and I’m officially hooked. Seriously it’s going to be a problem for my mental health I can just see it. Cliffhangers are not for me. Yet!! I found myself drinking this dark sinful tale up like dehydrated grass patch in the summer. I was all over it like a fucking rash.
I cannot deal.
Dark romance is a hard topic to broach. It’s so easy to get wrong, to be chaotic, cheesy or downright gross. There has to be a balance. That fine line of being wrong but also so right and I found this author balanced it all nicely.
A solid foundation is KEY. Without that the story is subpar at best. Luckily though this author has all the fine details locked down. She spins a tale so all consuming your sucked in before you even realise what’s happening and before you know it you’re four chapters in and craving more.
This is a trilogy. Three books, each with their own very important part to play. So yes.. CLIFFY alert. Your not getting your happy ending just yet bbs. This is just the beginning, laying the foundation for what’s to come. Giving us the back story on how and why they got to this point. The character development and story progression is just fucking delicious. Vic peels those layers back breaking it down and building them back up ready for what’s to come.
Your not getting your HOT NASTY ROMANCE.. well not the kind you’d expect. There is a few triggers so if you’re sensitive to a lot when reading and you’re curious hit me up and I’ll fill you in on what could possibly be a problem for you.
Damien is a antihero if ever I’ve read one. The man has more issues than your average killer so expect crazy. He’s arrogant with asshole tendencies and a huge chip on his shoulder. The boy got a lot to learn but going in he’s a man child so the growth for him is real.
Adriana is not what your expecting. She’s resilient, hardened to the world..BUT, she has a light that someone with her demons shouldn’t have. She is hell of a character!. But that’s all I’m saying so I don’t slip up.
Holy mother of side characters.. you are hitting the lottery of physcopsthic lunatics here. I’m not joking. That’s me being nice. They are fucking nuts. Yet… you will love them by the end. Seriously you won’t believe me now but I’m telling you!. It takes a special kind of author to get you to love this dysfunctional bunch a crazies.
So to wrap up…
Conflicted emotions, unpredictable characters, turmoil, suspense and heartbreak. A tale of growth, learning, love and a fucked up kind of happy. It’s forbidden but you can’t help loving it. It’s just the beginning but I feel like already there is so much.. so many feelings it’s hard to truly articulate what your feeling.
Meh… I need the next instalment. Fuck my life this is going to be the longest wait ever.
Why did I do it to myself. I hate cliffhangers. But I NEED what’s next.
I am a huge fan of dark romance and as a matter of fact, the darker the better. And Damien’s Promise(Vengeance Trilogy #1) took me on one hell of a dark and twisted wild ride!! I was sucked in immediately!! The plot is original, thrilling, exciting and will have you on the edge of your seat.
Damien is a dark, brooding and arrogant assassin who’s part of Venti, an organized crime syndicate. He risen up in the ranks of Venti to become one of the most highest ranking members. His sole purpose is to seek revenge against the person responsible for murdering his family when he was younger. I just love a hero with a hard heart and Damien’s is made of stone. In comes Adriana, a snarky little spitfire who has an agenda similar to Damien’s. He been assigned to protect her and as much as he tries to deny his feelings for her, he can’t. The interactions between these two tortured, issues for days complex characters had my head spinning!!
I was truly taken back by Damien’s Promise as the storyline was solid and every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, Ms. Tyler threw in a twist that had me in shock and craving for more. This book contains taboo subjects and a lot of violence with seriously insane, depraved and deviant secondary characters. With that said, I couldn’t have been more impressed with Damien’s Promise as Ms. Tyler wrote it with tact and proficiency. There is a major cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read Adriana’s Temptation.
Omg! I absolutely loved this book from Vic Tyler. I have never read her before. To be honest, I had never heard of her befor ethis book. I am so glad I have found her now. Damien’s Promise is a dark, gritty, suspenseful, fantasy read that is so multilayered, you won’t know which way is up when you’re through. Vic Tyler did an excellent job of building the world this book is set in. I could SEE it all in my mind. The characters were a motley crue of killers and crazies and just enough innocent thrown in to keep the book from being pitch black. The storyline was fast paced and I found myself racing through the pages to see what was going to happen next. There were times I was smiling and times I wanted to throw my phone across the room. And that ending! Talk about a cliffhanger. I NEED to know what happens next. I need it right now!
I’m so blown away by this book.
Vic Tyler is a new author for me but officially a one click!
The beginning is complex and loaded with a lot of information/backstory…be patient.
Once you get passed that, it takes off. The world building is awesome. The characters are deep, complicated and so real.
Heed the trigger warnings..dark reads are my jam so it was heavenly bliss for me.
I highly recommend you giving this read a try.

Loved the book it was great the story was well written and the characters were interesting.
Adianna was battered and bruised when she approaches Damien for help. Damien disgusted that someone could do that to Adrianna and was going to help. Adrianna wants vengeance for what they did and Damien was going to help her achieve it.
Thank you for allowing me to review this book it was great.

Whoa!
I loved this dark book!! Damien and the Twelve and Adriana kept me turning pages until the last excruciating cliffhanger word. I cannot wait for book 2!!
I read a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This book is the first in a trilogy that has the makings of being an epic saga.
The book is set in a kind of dystopian reality, where a huge underworld rules large parts of the world. Damien is drawn into this world when his family are murdered and he swears vengeance on those he believes are responsible.
Adriana arrives at West’s headquarters in much the same way: her family are gone and she wants revenge on those who committed those crimes. Instead of being drawn into the underworld, West allows her to live there as a civilian, not permitting her to take part in the various crimes necessary to keep their version of order in the chaos.
Despite her young age, Adriana is drawn to Damien, who protects her like a younger sister. The book charts their changing relationship over the years, running alongside Damien’s vendetta.
The book draws you in until you’re immersed in this alternate reality. When I started reading, I didn’t think this would be a genre I could easily read, but by 30% I was hooked. The details, the characters and the brilliant storyline are flawlessly executed. A real book of substance.
I Received an ARC for a fair and honest review.
Damien’s Promise is dark vengeance, a gritty, twisted, organized crime storyline with a dystopian feel.
