New York Times bestselling fantasy author Anne McCaffrey “interweaves an engrossing romance with a coming-of-age story”(Publishers Weekly) in this novel in the Tower and Hive series.Damia is the daughter of Prime Talents The Rowan and Jeff Raven. Her own telepathic and telekinetic abilities manifested at an early age, unimaginable powers even greater than her parents’, challenging to wield much … parents’, challenging to wield much less control. As willful as her mother ever was, Damia defies her family’s attempts to tame and train her—only to bond with Afra Lyon, a Talent who serves The Rowan, and who becomes the object of her affection.
When she comes of age, Damia learns that a Prime of her capabilities and temperament has no time for love. Assigned to serve the farthest human colonized world from Earth, Damia leads a lonely existence until she telepathically connects with an alien presence in another galaxy—a potential threat not only to Damia, but to the love Afra wants to share with her…

Fantastic story! I have loved all of this series and would gladly re-read them daily if my hubby would let me!
Yes, this is a “young adult” story. However, Anne McCaffrey has a way of taking a situation and making it relevant to this day and age. Even though it was written years ago and Anne is long passed away—I snapped this up when it was on sale for my Kindle.
This is about a young man knowing he was meant for a girl that was just born and waiting for her to mature. The out-of-space setting is entertaining and informative, sort of. Will we ever get there? Here’s a guide to how to do it!!
Love this series!
For lovers of fantasy, everything Anne McCaffrey is outstanding!
Truly enjoyed this series
At the heart of this book it’s a romance even though it’s set in a pulp, science-fiction world.
Damia and her male counter part set the basis for a whole set of mind enhanced, age.
As a part of a universe it holds up well to the others in the series. To my knowledge Anne has never written a bad book, I love them all.
An excellent entry in one of Anne McCaffrey’s best series – The Tower and the Hive. Enjoyable fantasy about talented people (telekinetic, telepathic, etc.) set in space. I’d recommend the entire series.
Anne McCaffrey couldn’t have plotted a bad novel if she tried! One of my absolute favorite authors, I have bookshelves packed with her books, but Damia I’d somehow missed. I couldn’t put it down! The characters are unique, as each is unique amongst themselves. It’s a story that demands you to turn the page and forget about sleep, as you fall into thrall with the major characters (and do some major ‘This Grandmother’ wishing, unless, of course, you were gifted with a brilliant, sensitive, strong, resourceful and fully wonderful grand of your own!)
Apparently, there is a novel or story which precedes this one, but Damia stands perfectly whole without the previous book. If you enjoy a world a few centuries beyond our own and the potential of unimaginable psi talents, you’ve got to read this!
Anne, it was a joy to meet you, way back when, and your readers still miss you terribly!
Love her still of writing. Can’t wait to collect them all.
Have read and enjoyed most of My McCaffert’s books.
Awesome
Damia is the second book in McCaffrey’s Tower and Hive series. Damia is the child of the Rowan, subject of the first book in the series. This is a family with Talent. The talent in this case is telepathy, not only in communication, but also to teleport objects. The Rowan and members of her family work teleporting cargoes & passengers across planets and between planets. In this chapter of the series we see how the mischievous Damia grows up and becomes a Talent with her own tower and meets the love of her life. There are interesting twists of life along the way as McCaffrey develops this universe, Damia and ultimately the Lyon family.
Favorite author love this series
Very slow read, didn’t hold my interest…so disappointed, as had high hopes after so loving all Anne McCaffrey’s Dragon series, etc many years ago! Didn’t finish the book.
I fell in love with this whole series. I highly recommend it enjoys science fiction or paranormal books. The characters analogs are interconnected which leaves you craving more.
Allways loved Mcaffery and this is quality Mcaffery
Love Anne McCaffrey. Can’t put it down once you start reading. Great series
I couldn’t put it down.
This author is wonderful at sucking you into her worlds. Millions have read her Pern series and fallen in love with this author. The Tower series is another of those that fans fall in love with. I highly recommend the entire series. You won’t want to stop after reading just one book.
