One boy. One lawyer. One chance for justice.Ten-year-old Patrick O’Brien is a natural target at school. Shy, dyslexic, and small for his age, he tries to hide his first-grade reading level from everyone: from his classmates, from the grandfather who cares for him, and from the teachers who are supposed to help him. But the real trouble begins when Patrick is accused of attacking a school aide. … a school aide. The aide promptly quits and sues the boy, his family, and the school district. Patrick’s grandfather turns to the law firm of Rosato & DiNunzio for help and Mary DiNunzio is on the case. Soon Mary becomes Patrick’s true champion and his only hope for security and justice. But there is more to the story than meets the eye and Patrick might be more troubled than he seems. With twists at every turn and secrets about the family coming to light, Mary DiNunzio might have found the case that can make her a true protector, or break her heart…
With Lisa Scottoline’s trademark emotional depth and fast-paced action, Damaged will have readers riveted to the last page as they root for the beloved characters and their fight for justice.

I loved this story. I have read Lisa Scottoline books and like this story, her writing is informative, and her characters are well developed. This story focuses on a lawyer who becomes enmeshed with drama associated with a child who is emotionally and socially challenged. I couldn’t put this book down and I enjoyed it so much!
Sweet story with a couple of twists and turns although it was predictable. Here were a few unrealistic things that happened. An easy read.
I really enjoyed this book
Couldn’t even finish this, too much just isn’t true
Good read, but be prepared for heavy subject matter.
Lisa Scottoline is one of my favorite authors, and I especially enjoy her series dealing with the lawyers of Rosato & Associates. Thoroughly enjoyed this!
I love all the books about these characters. This one was especially intriguing as it kept me guessing until the end.
This was good finished the next day
Extremely well researched and written.
Excellent read!
My rating is: Excellent
This was a great book and an excellent read. I could not put it down. I have someone in the Special Ed Department for public schools and it is so necessary that the children get tested and are given the help that they need. I could not put it down wanting the best for Patrick.
Always love anything by this author! Great read!
I love books like this one, I read it in one day and couldn’t wait to get to the end.
Loved this book – could not put it down!
I like Lisa Scottoline. I have read lots of her books. I love her characters, especially Judy. “Damaged” is about Mary DiNunzio in the couple of weeks before her wedding.
Mary is hired by an elderly man, Edward, because he is being sued by a teacher’s aid. The aid, Mr. Robertson, is accusing Edward’s grandson of attaching him with a pair of scissors. Patrick, the grandson who is dyslexic, tells them he has been molested and assaulted by the teacher’s aid. Edward dies, under suspicious circumstances and Patrick is accused of the murder. Mary gets deeply involved.
Mary decides she wants to raise Patrick and sets about getting custody of him. She doesn’t bother to tell Anthony, her fiance before she jumps in feet first. Meanwhile, Anthony is interviewing for a job in California, without telling Mary.
I was sure Mary and Anthony would break up over Patrick. And, I had serious concerns about Edward’s estate lawyer and his stock broker. And, the jerk lawyer, Machiavelli, attacks Mary when she goes to talk to him. Couldn’t understand why Mary kept interacting with Machiavelli, and reacting to him.
Bennie shows up toward the end, cool as always.
This is not one of the better books by Scottoline. It is okay, but that is all. I think her earlier books were much better than this one. But, if you haven’t read any of the other books, this might be an okay read.
A wonderful read. I couldn’t put my kindle down. A sad but a very good story. A typical Lisa S.mystery
