Wall Street meets the Sons of Anarchy in Damage Control, the smoldering, scorching next novel in the explosively sexy Dirty Money series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones. The only thing more dangerous than a dark secret is a damaged heart Shane Brandon has been pushed to the brink, torn between his corrupt family and his explosive, all-consuming desire for Emily Stevens, who … explosive, all-consuming desire for Emily Stevens, who he now knows is not who, and what, she seems. I received a free copy of this books to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
This one picks up where Hard Rules left off, with Shane finding out that Emily has been lying to him. Does she tell him the truth or does she run to save herself and him?
Emily has been running trying to stay ahead of those that might be after her according to her brother. But when she meets Shane, she thinks she might be putting him in danger if she stays with him. But her feelings for Shane are growing and she doesn’t want to see him get hurt.
Shane is still trying to save his families company but his brother Derek is all for letting anyone that is willing to give money to him in to cover any illegal dealings. So while Derek and Shane fight to win control over the company, their father is playing games to get them to fight for it. While Shane wants to stay out of jail, Derek listens to the bad guys and just may end up in jail or worse, end up dead.
Will Emily tell Shane the truth about her past and be able to stop running? Can Shane keep her safe from her past and his family? Will Shane be able to save his families company from Derek and the bad guys?
I am so ready for the next book because I need to know what happens next. Will Shane win control of the company? Or will Derek let the bad guys in and they take control? Will Emily get her life back on track? Only time will tell as soon as book 3 is ready.
If you love a book that is full of suspense and will keep you guessing, then you need to read anything by Lisa Renee Jones. She will have you feeling like you are on a roller coaster ride before you reach the end but you will love every bit of it. So keep you hands inside and hang on tight and enjoy the ride!

Damage Control is the second book in Lisa Renee Jones’s Dirty Money Series and it was another great read. Jones flawlessly combines suspense, mystery, and romance in this book. Dots were connected and questions answered as we learned details about Emily’s past. I don’t want to spoil any of the surprises for any of you, but it now makes a lot of sense why Shane and Emily connect the way they do. A character who surprised me in this book was Brandon Sr. We really got to see his softer side in this book and I like his softer side, so I am really hoping he leaves the dark side in the next two books
Damage Control would have been a five star read for me, but I felt like there should have been more that happened. There were a lot of questions answered during this book, but not a lot that happened. With all of this build-up, I think Bad Deeds is going to be a very exciting book.
Absolutely love Shane and Emily. This is the second book in the Dirty Money series and I am absolutely hooked. Can’t wait to see what happens in Bad Deeds and to see what will happen between Shane and Emily. I have a feeling this isn’t going to be easy for them.
I dove right into book 2 of this series and had to know what was in store for our characters. Emily is still a mystery at the beginning of this book and the struggle at Shane’s company is still going strong. Emily runs from Shane to protect him. He pursues her with everything in him and without a doubt that he will succeed. When he finds her, that scene is perfection. I love how Shane has a protective streak in him a mile long and is Alpha to the core. As united front, Emily and Shane are both stronger together. The end of this book. WOW. No spoilers but that last scene will have you reaching for the 3rd book.
The drama is heating up even more (if possible!)…
Hard to say that because the first instalment had a lot going on already! Shane and Emily had been doing some major waffling about their relationship as trust was hard to come by and secrets were everywhere… Solidifying their relationship took priority and it was going to mean survival as enemies were not always obvious. Navigating the cutthroat world of business, cartels and secret organizations meant delicate negotiations and suspenseful, dangerous times…
These are full-length novels and have lots of room for all the good stuff – angst, drama, suspense, steamy scenes and lots of twists and turns. Wrap that all in great writing and sparkling characters and you know I’m completely hooked. I’m half-way through this story arc and though I’m not sure where the author is taking them (or me!) I can’t get wait to get there!

Gosh this is intense and powerful, a plot filled with distrust and lies, family hatred and a battle for a company and keeping it legal against the odds. Underneath all of that another trust and love is building, no less powerful but all consuming. A page turner that keeps you gripped with your head going back and forth like watching a game of tennis with every twist and turn. High emotions on all fronts. This is the second part of a series meaning it ends on a cliff but picks right up in part 3, is it worth the commitment? I feel it is. Definitely 5 Star worthy
Damage Control just rocked my world 10 times over!
Is simply a powerhouse of a thriller! With so many twist and turns. That just fuels the storyline! Burning up the pages! Leading us a nonstop ride of orgasmic proportions!
Then the next moment, leaving me completely shell shocked! WTF??? Scratching my head! Feeling perplexed and hungry! For more of the chaos! For more of Shane and Emily’s journey! That fire, which is just igniting! Right in the eyes of the storm!! What will happen next????
So when I think of Suspense, lust, sizzle and a twist! There’s only one place I to go. Now that is Lisa Renee Jones thriller of a mind!! She will blow you away!
OMG!! I just love this story. I love anything that Lisa writes!
No more secrets…
When the entirety of your life is a twisted chess match, secrets can be helpful or detrimental. In corporate takeover…In waging a war on drugs…In a relationship that is oozing lies…
Who knows where no more secrets will land them? Shane and Emily are on a path that neither saw coming. What was supposed to be a one night stand is very much more. But both of them have secrets, and both of them are hiding.
Will they reveal the darkest parts? Is it easier to lie? Or walk away?
Danger lurks around too many corners and things are closing in. Damage Control is harder than they thought. Especially if you have limitations such as morals.
Just another move on the chess board, Damage Control reveals that though they are playing the game Shane and Derek are not in control. Pieces to the puzzle fall in line, but how many puzzles are on the table?
Some very exciting questions are answered but you will have plenty more to keep you wondering.
Shane’s life is spiraling even more out of control. He thought once he had Emily back and now that her secrets are all out in the open and she’s been protected, that just maybe his life might somehow go right for once. But, Derek and Brandon Senior are still playing games, especially Derek. As the suspense and intrigue heighten, Shane struggles with the darkness inside him that he doesn’t want to acknowledge, and doesn’t want Emily to ever see.
Emily is now committed to protecting Shane by standing at his side, not by running from him. But, how can she protect him if he won’t let her in completely, won’t allow her to know everything going on? As much as I like Shane, that is the crux of my problem with him – he demands complete honesty from Emily, but when push comes to shove he doesn’t give her the same respect, not until the very end. I’m hoping that in Bad Deeds, he’ll open up completely or they won’t have a chance of making it.
Bring on the 3rd and 4th stories, can’t wait!
“He tastes of all things I crave. Power. Control. Passion.”
First and foremost, if you have not read Hard Rules, DO NOT READ Damage Control until you have. This book picks up right after Hard Rules ends and it gives you a spoiler recap. This review will be pretty short and simple in order not to give away any spoilers for either book.
Shane finally discovers the secrets that Emily has been hiding from him and their world is turned upside down. Now they are faced with multiple threats and a lot of battles. There are a lot of moving parts that all connect at some point. Lies, deceit, dirty money, it’s got it all.
What I really enjoyed about this one is that we really get to see Emily and Shane’s relationship evolve. They are tested. Their trust in each other is tested. However, they end up working together to overcome it. The entire story screams good vs. evil with Emily and Shane at the top of the good list and a bucket full of people on the evil one.
I admitted in my review for Hard Rules that it started off slow for me but it eventually picked up. Well, this one was full on throttle. It was fast paced and packed full of action that keeps your mind moving. Overall, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book so we can finally see how everything plays out.

Now things are starting to get really good!
When I finished Hard Rules, the first book in the Dirty Money series, I was a little concerned with where the story was going. It felt a little all over the place to me, and I had a bit of trouble connecting all the dots. But with Damage Control, I’m so happy to say that finally the dots all started connecting and things were coming together for me!
I have to say, I love how Ms. Jones summarized Hard Rules at the beginning of Damage Control- that was so helpful! With the summarization there was no need to go back and skim through HR to get a refresher before diving into DC. And dive right back into it we do- DC picks up right where HR left off, with secrets and lies and mystery and intrigue, and more Brandon family drama than you’d ever find in Dallas!
Finally we’re learning what Emily’s big secret is, and why she’s in hiding. Even with everything Shane has going on with his family and their company, he can’t let Emily go and makes it his mission to protect her and do whatever he can to keep her safe. As things start to really heat up between Shane and Emily, so do they with the his brother and the Cartel.
Damage Control is a great, fast-paced read that had me hanging on the edge of my seat.
Loved it! Just wished the related books in series weren’t so expensive. I can’t pay $8 when there are 4 books in the series. Hoping another goes free or gets a reduced price offer! Because I couldn’t stop reading and I am dying to know what happens!!
Love it
Oh, what a tangled web of lies this family weaves…
This book picks up right where Hard Rules left off so if you did not read that one you don’t want to start this one or you will be totally lost (I had to go back and re-read it because I was a year out from reading it). In this one we learn Emily’s secret and more of Shane’s family’s absolutely dysfunctional ways. I have to say I am really enjoying this series and really glad I get to delve into the next book immediately!
I highly recommend this series and will not give anything away other than to say take a deep breath because there is a lot going on!
Damage Control is the follow-up book to Hard Rules which must be read first. This book picks up right where the first book leaves off and it is just as great a read as the first book in this series. When it comes to the Brandon family no one is safe. Everyone wants control and everyone is fighting and going to war to get where they want to be. I’m surprised by the way Shane’s dad has taken a likeness to Emily but I’m wondering if she is also a playing piece in the game they all play so well. I finished this book and one sitting and can’t wait to get my hands on the next book to see what happens with this family. As twisted, deceitful and revengeful as this family and these characters are, sure makes a great and unpredictable suspense read that will leave you wanting more.
