Dallas and the Cowboy
4 stars
Ironic, poignant, and heartwarming depicting the true meaning of Christian love and family despite all its dysfunction. Popular radio host Dallas’ life is turned upside down when she is fired after a irate boyfriend commits suicide ; she discovers her long lost Caldwell siblings; and she meets Sheriff Lawson Hawk and his teenage niece Madison.
A wonderful, clean Western romance with depth!
This is the first book by Linda Goodnight that I have read, and I am really impressed. It is a very high quality clean/sweet romance novel. There is great depth and a lot going on, but the author handled everything wonderfully with warmth and a human touch. The dialogue is really well done. There is some mention of Christianity and faith, but it is just a nice touch (not overwhelming at all). I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves contemporary Western romance.
Dallas is a talented radio personality in Texas who experienced something traumatizing, got fired, and now is driving to Oklahoma to connect with the family of the father that she never met. Meanwhile, Lawson is the county sheriff in that town in Oklahoma. His bum of a brother surprisingly leaves his teen daughter Madison with Lawson before heading off to Nashville. Lawson struggles to connect with his niece, but the new lady in town might rescue Lawson after he rescues her.
I absolutely adore Lawson. He is a thoughtful, intelligent, gentlemanly cowboy who takes his responsibilities seriously. He is also hot! Dallas is likeable. She is a little too hard-headed, but she grew on me. I also love the girl Madison, and I am so happy that she had a happy ending as well. The characters were very compelling throughout. The only thing in the book that seemed too far-fetched was two grown people falling in love and not even coming close to having sex before marriage.
I received a free advanced reading copy, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
