Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.
Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock ’n’ roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.
Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.
Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.
The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.

“When you look in the mirror take stock of your soul and when you hear my voice, remember you ruined me whole.”
This book was everything I wanted it to be and more, I LOVED IT! It was written like an interview for a documentary bouncing around from all the different characters POV which was new to me but it worked perfectly. I loved feeling like I was dropped right in the middle of the rock and roll scene (I got major Janis Joplin vibes from Daisy which made me love her even more). Reid has a way of creating these iconic characters that feel so real I had to keep reminding myself this was fiction, even though I wished so much I could see Daisy Jones and The Six play live somewhere.
If this book is not on your radar PUT IT ON YOUR RADAR. If you read anything in 2019 READ THIS BOOK – it is the second Taylor Jenkins Reid book I have read and both are some of my favorites of all time!
Wow!
I listened to the audio. Amazing! This fictional band was the hottest thing in the late 70’s. And then they broke up. This is their memoir/history- mostly Daisy’s.
All characters are real, flawed, tragic and charismatic.
Sex, drugs, rock and roll? This novel has this and more.
Told in a first person, interview format, all voices are heard- band members, girlfriends, producers, hotel managers and more.
I didn’t want the book to end.
Fabulous!
So good, much better than I imagined it would be. Wonderful characters. Slightly reminiscent of Almost Famous.
In an age of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll, an iconic rock group hits the music scene in the seventies. Their popularity was at an all time high. Fans packed venues to hear the melodies that touched a chord with anyone that followed Daisy Jones and the Six.
As fast as that star shot into the sky, the band was no more. What would lead these rockers to walk away at the height of their career? How did these legends crumble when fans were demanding more? Years pass before an answer to these questions would come to light. The answered opened the door to a story that few knew existed. A story that would lead fans back to the glory days of Daisy Jones and The Six.
Talk about a story……..
Daisy Jones and The Six is a fictional story about a legendary rock band from the seventies that walked away at the height of their career. Many have wondered why these legends gave up on a career so bright the sky was the only limit. It is a tale that unravels like an actual interview of the characters. A story that is slowly revealed throughout the pages of a book that I enjoyed more than I should.
While reading Daisy Jones and The Six, I found myself immersed with the characters. Reminiscent of the days of Fleetwood Mac, this story pulled me into a tale full of stardom and the perils of fame. Daisy, Billy Dunne, and the band led a life that was only fitting of rock legends. Their journey was oftentimes so vivid, I could imagine every detail in my mind. I loved everything about Daisy, Billy, and the journey that led them back to the height of their fame. The ending…..well….that was the icing on the cake!!
OMG…This might be THE BEST audiobook I’ve listened to!
It’s written as an interview and each character has a different voice by wonderful narrators. It’s perfect. If you listen to one audiobook, this is a great one!
It follows the story of a fictional rock band in the ’70s that rise to fame. Even though most characters have less-than-desirable traits, they are likable and I found myself invested in the outcome of their choices.

This book is a fantastic example of one of the many reasons why I don’t typically read a lot of books that are popular in the book community. After hearing a lot of hype about Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, I begrudgingly added it to my TBR list. While the book was not especially bad, I personally do not think it lives up to the praise it has received.
I will start off by admitting that Historical Fiction is rarely my genre of choice. However, some of my favorite books happen to be Historical Fiction, so I am pretty open-minded about reading the genre. Who doesn’t adore The Book Thief? And, if you haven’t read The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys, you need to do so immediately! So, when I heard that this novel was Historical Fiction and was receiving rave reviews, I figured I should check it out for myself.
If you don’t already know, the book is a series of interviews about a fictional rock band and a pop singer in the 1970s. The book describes the process of writing songs, going on tours, and of course the drama that ultimately goes along with any band. Honestly, I had to Google whether Daisy Jones & The Six was an actual band because the book is written in a very realistic manner, which is its strongest feature in my opinion.
There is nothing in the book that I didn’t really like, but I am the type of reader that would prefer reading a true story about a band as opposed to a fictional one. For instance, one of my favorite books is Not The Life it Seems: The True Lives of My Chemical Romance by Tom Bryant. Who wouldn’t love reading behind-the-scenes details about their favorite band? But, the fact that Daisy Jones & The Six is fictional, really took away the joy the story would have had if it were nonfiction.
Overall, if you are an Historical Fiction lover, you will most likely enjoy Daisy Jones & The Six! If Historical Fiction is not your genre of choice, or if you’re looking for a truly memorable or unique novel, this probably isn’t the book for you.
This book was so good. I had never read anything quite like it. My favorite thing about it is that the format allows the reader to know all the characters’ perspectives on the same events, resulting in many contractions. I have to say that for me, the story seemed real. It was fun and sad at the same time. If I have not seen a Tik Tok about how this story is pure fiction, I would have sworn the band was real. I hope that the TV adaption lives up to this amazing book.
This is such a fun summer book, you won’t want to put it down. You lose yourself in the drama, the music and the 70s.
I loved this book!! I loved the format, the story line & the wonderful characters. What a crazy fun read about a crazy fun time.
I really wanted it to be real. There was just enough reality in it that I was searching for songs and band members on Google.
I finally got around to reading (listening to) this book and it was quite enjoyable and nostalgic. As a teenager and young woman in the 1970’s this book brought back some great memories. Music has always been a big part of my life, defining the decades for me, and I still enjoy current music although I don’t listen as much as I used to.
I was never a girl like Daisy, I was a good girl, once who got married early and settled down, but music makes you dream. I was able to live vicariously through the characters in this book. I like the way the book is set up as a journalist interviewing the former members of the band long after they have dismantled their group. Once they were rising stars, now they are ordinary people with a story to tell.
I listened to this on audiobook via Audible and was transfixed by all the different narrators. I loved them all especially one of my favorites Julia Whelan. They all did a fantastic job, and I was quickly able to recognize each character. They brought much realism to the story.
I worried where the story was heading, but it suddenly ended in a way I did not see coming. An interesting choice I’m not sure would have really happened in real life, but it gave romantics like me hope that there was a chance for all of us. I gave it four stars.
Seriously don’t know what all the fuss was about with this book. The structure is interesting but other than that its an average read.
I loved this book so much! Such great characters and it had me googling to check the band was definitely fictional 🙂 I loved the structure of interviews, building a very believable world. I raced through this, but at the same time didn’t want it to end.
I don’t think this book lives up to all the hype. It was entertaining but very predictable and kinda fell flat for me.
For all the hype about this book, I was disappointed. Her other book, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was much better.
Daisy Jones & The Six takes you on a whirlwind adventure with the rise and fall of one of the most popular rock bands of the 1970’s. Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne have an undeniable chemistry unlike anything you have ever seen and before the end of this story Taylor Jenkins Reid will have you believing that Daisy Jones & The Six was a very real band that you want to put on repeat until you know every one of their songs by heart.
“No matter who you choose to go down the road with, you’re gonna get hurt. That’s just the nature of caring about someone. No matter who you love, they will break your heart along the way.”
From the very first page I was drawn into the way that Reid told this story. It was unlike anything that I have ever read before and it is told as if in interview of all the members of the band and the people they crossed paths with along the way. Please do not let that discourage you, this story had more heart and soul than a lot of books. There was not a moment where I didn’t want to know Daisy and Billy so that I could be a part of their story and experience what they did when they were in the throes of the rock scene in the 1970’s.
Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll play a major part of this story and the toll it can take on the people in the music industry. There were moments through this story where I was rooting for Billy and crying with Daisy for the heartache she was feeling and right when I thought I knew how this story was going to end I was thrown a curve ball that really took this book to the next level.
If you are looking for a book that is going to make you fall in love in the most unexpected way, then Daisy Jones & The Six is it. If I were able to give this book more than five stars I totally would, I see this being a book I come back to in the future to relive the beauty that is Daisy, Billy, Graham and the rest of The Six.
The drug scene of music groups in the mid 70’s is a bit overwhelming to me , in spite of that being my time period.
Loved this book! Music from the 60’s is still my favorite and this book brought all that music back!
If you like fictional books loosely based on real bands, this book is for you. It’s an easy read.
Didn’t care for the way he was written
