This series has a great voice in its first-person narrator. Once you start reading, it’s hard to put it down. I read a lot of lighthearted mysteries, and only a few of them make me want more. This one ranks high among them.
Loved Daisy and her family and friends. The story was a peek into historical Pasadena.
Very wordy and slow moving
I couldn’t get into this book and bailed 1/3 in. I will try again.
Enjoyed her wit, lead character is full of her self depreciation at doing a sham job but shows her basically kind nature.
For children
I thoroughly enjoyed the first three books in the series/
Hope some more will be for sale soon
I just love Daisy! She is such a realistic heroine. All her family, friends, and clients make each story a gem.
Interesting premiss and unique characters but it just didn’t capture my interest. I got half way into the first book and put it down.
Would love to see this entire series made into movies!!!
Great bed-time reading as it is easy-to-read, has funny moments, and nothing gruesome to mess with your dreams. There is a lot of repetition, but mainly with the main characters thoughts. Don’t we all have those trains of thoughts that go on and on and repeat? I also enjoy reading about Pasadena, CA during that time period before I was born there and lived on Marengo Ave.
Too repetitive in describing the same thing throughout the books. Loved the story line and characters though.
I truly enjoy this series of books. The family and friends characters are wonderful and very supportive of one another. . .they are really good people who have to deal with hard things.
Great value! Three fantastic mysteries in one box set. I’ve been a fan of the series for a while but I started with later installments. Happy to be catching up with the beginning of Daisy’s story. Great reads!!
I love the Daisy Gumm books – they’re my new favorites. Very entertaining and gives a glimpse of the way our Country was in the early 1920’s. Alice Duncan is a creative writer who makes reading fun.
Alice has done her research. I have been to Pasadena and it is just like in her books. It is entertaining how she does her readings with just a touch of reality and truth. A touch of tragedy in reguards to the damage done to her young husband in the war. I devoured every one of her Daisy Gumm Majesty books.
These books are fabulous.
Well written characters. Just a pleasure to read
Very repetitive in the feelings of the main character. I kept waiting for the husband to die so she could date the detective. Very predictable in that it happens in a later book.
Daisy Gumm Majesty started telling fortunes as a preteen, and now, at age 19 is the sole support for her family. This includes her husband, a victim of mustard gas poisoning from World War I. While some of the situations Daisy gets into are borderline ridiculous, her character is so charming and sincere that she keeps you engaged. Daisy herself admits that her fortune telling is a sham, but she truly gives comfort to her clients.
