Enjoyed these cozy mysteries. Fun characters during an interesting time period. Can get a little boring when ready more than one n book. Main character continually describes people, place, and things the same way every book. Good light read.
A great inside of the period, showing how people made do, when circumstances threw the worst at them
I absolutely adore the Daisy Majesty series. And who could complain about three of those books in one convenient box set. Three new mysteries that Daisy inadvertently gets involved in much to the consternation of her loved ones. Yet she doggedly pursues the culprits in her highly unorthodox yet entirely entertaining manner. Three great reads in one place just fantastic!
I have purchased and read all of the Daisy Gumm Majesty Mysteries up to this point. I am just waiting for the next one to come out. I absolutely love Daisy and her family and her friends and her fiance. These books are among my favorite books ever! And I have saved each one to my nook cloud. I can’t say enough good things about Alice Duncan’s Daisy!!! I would give these books 12 gold stars if I could!!!!
This series has been keeping me coming back. Great characters, you feel like you’re part of the family. A touch slow, but I’ve read 14 books in 3 weeks. Starting to dread not having more to read once I finish the 15th. It’ll be like moving away from home.
Found it to be very slow going.
Set in the 1920’s the main character is a “spiritualist” to the rich. Although I like these books my biggest complaint is the main character’s lamenting about the things in her life throughout each and every book. Her husband is gravely wounded in World War I and about a fourth of the early books is her complaints. It got tiresome. Other than that the characters are fun, and the stories give a peek of life a100 years ago
Unexpectedly applicable to today!
A good read to forget your worries. I liked the characters and the description of old Pasadena.
Entertaining
I just finished a 3 book set and fell in love with Daisy Gumm Majesty and her interesting family and friends. I also liked that there are some insights into the 1920’s and also a bit of social commentary relating to that time period. They’re who done its that keep you guessing.
Love this series!
I initially picked it up as a period piece but found it very entertaining.
Love the Daisy Majesty series! The characters are charming, plots are interesting, and social issues addressed are historically embedded, but still relevant today. My only caution is that the later books seem to use too much of repetition of thoughts/lines by Daisy as a character device.
Fun series especially since I am very familar with Pasadena. Have read the entire series. There is a need for more careful editing of the books since there are mistakes that are distracting.
I simply sped through these stories hardly able to put them down. Daisy is a great sleuth and a good partner for her detective boyfriend Sam. I like that she sees the not so positive aspect of herself and tries to be better. A lesson for all of us.
Daisy Gumm is one of my favorite quirky cozy heroines. Such fun!
Enjoy this series of books.
Another wonderful series that makes me happy to have a Kindle Unlimited subscription. Currently following Daisy and am on book #8. Yes, there is some repetition from book to book, but this is mainly to inform first-time readers and, for me, it just becomes part of Daisy’s character. Excellent research into the times – often making me think of events and attitudes (even modern day) in a whole new light.
All three of these books take place after Daisy Gumm Majesty’s husband Billy succumbed to his war wounds. Consequently the relationship between Daisy and Detective Sam Rotondo is more of a focus. Daisy continues to hold seances, read tarot cards, and get involved in mysterious deaths, oftem stumbling on significant clues. One of the great things about these novels is the voice of Daisy Gumm. She is bright, sassy, irreverent, and intolerant of unfairness and injustice, especially relating to people of color. In 1923 Pasadena, California, the discrepancy between rich and poor is huge, and Daisy is something of a bridge. This is especially true in book 8 which centers in the Ku Klux Klan. A second great thing about the books is the books is the characters’ sophisticated vocabulary. Many authors today seem to use a thesaurus, inserting inapt synonyms. Daisy uses words in appropriate, skillful, delightful ways Daisy is a regular visitor to the Pasadena library and discusses such contemporary authors as Dorothy Sayers, Agatha Christie, G. K. Chesterton, Mark Twain, Zane Grey, and many more. This makes reading the Daisy Gumm Majesty books a joyful experience.
