Love in my world usually ended up with someone hearing ‘I smite thee!’ as she was cursed to be some lame flower for the rest of her life. For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals–pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she’d been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she’s pretty much accepted that she’s a freak by mortal standards… … standards… and that she’ll never be prepared for that duty.According to her mother, that’s a good thing. But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return-the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death… because she’s being hunted by the very creatures she’d once trained to kill. The daimons have found her.

Daimon is the prequel novella to the Covenant series. I have read the Covenant series before, about 7 years ago, but I do not remember reading Daimon. It is an interesting start to the series and gives an insight into what has happened since Alex and her mom have fled the Covenant 3 years prior and how Alex copes with living among humans.
Alex is as badass and snarky as I remember her. She is not a girl that waits to be rescued, instead she does the rescuing. She is strong, independent young woman that takes shit from no one. While she does not agree with the decision her mother made to flee the Covenant, as her mother never explained the reason for their escape, she stands by her mom no matter what.
Daimon is action-packed, fast-paced, and for such a short novel, very emotional read. I could not stop myself from reading it in one sitting. It comes to a somewhat abrupt end just when things started to get really interesting, which only propels your need to continue with the series so you can find out what happens. Really recommend reading this before you start with Half-Blood.

This book is the prequel to the next book and the start of the Covenant series. I already fell in love with Alex (short for Alexandria) in this short story. Her strength amazed me and I was immediately curious what would happen next. This short story is action packed and full of emotions. If I wasn’t already convinced of reading the Covenant series, I would’ve been after this short story!! I you are looking into reading the Covenant series I definitely recommend reading this prequel first.

Daimon it’s a prequel novella to the Covenant series. Its takes place in the week before the start of Half Blood. And in my opinion, it’s a must read. It’s a short novella and it’s great to have a grip on everything that happened before the events on book one, how Alex and her mother were living in the human world, and how Alex was struggling between everything. So, if you are planning on reading the Covenant series, I recommend reading Daimon first. It’s a good, fast paced, easy reading, great novella.
This is a very short novella where we get to see what happened to Alex mother and how did she ended up on the covenant again.
is action packed and does the work like a charm, Daimon is so intriguing that it makes you go grab Half Blood so you can find out what everything was about.
Another great book from a great writer can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of this series
To be honest, I read and enjoy romance more than any other major genre in novels. If it doesn’t have romance in it, I usually blah my way through the book. A fantasy novel is great, as long as the main character loves someone, it doesn’t have to be in the main part of the story but it usually has to be there. This novel had none. If I remember right, there was a hint of a former crush of Alex’s before she left the Covenant, but other than that, nada. I do not count that date at the beginning of the story. The boy was weak and stupid.
Also, and while I love JLArmentrout to pieces, honestly I thought the series could have taken or left this story. It didn’t exactly add much to the story except you got a peek into Alex’s relationship with her mother before it all fell apart. While that is important, it could have also been done in the main series with memories or stories told to Alex’s best friend Caleb, or something, you know? So I wasn’t impressed by this installment.
I did only read this story after starting the series, so I guess that’s why I kept at it. So because I didn’t feel it added much to the overall series that needed to be there, but because I did like it, I’m going with 3.5 stars.
I am typically a straight up contemporary romance reader but I’ve been needing to change it up recently. I just didn’t know what I wanted exactly. I’d looked at this series a couple of time and decided it was time to finally give this a try. I am so so glad I did. I am so hooked! I’m jumping straight into Half-Blood and I can see myself binging all of JLA’s books before feeling compelled to pick up anything else. If you’re looking for something with a twist but you don’t want to go too crazy with the paranormal then give this a look. I love the Greek god aspect of it all. I’d forgotten how interesting they all were in history classes. I can’t wait to see where this story goes! I’m also looking forward to all the spin offs JLA is doing with a couple of her series.
My daughter read this book in high school and Jennifer Armentrout became one of her all time favorites, we have met her at several book shows and she is phenomenal. I loved this series and after reading the first had to immediately purchase this complete series and all of her others.

Review:
I liked this little preview. However I’m glad that I read it after Half-blood. That way I was already familiar with the story and the characters. You can easily start with this one, it’s a good way to start the series. I’m normally just not that into prequel novella’s.
What is this story about:
This story is about Alex(andra) who isn’t like any other 17 year old girl. She isn’t exactly human. She is a decedent of the Greek gods. Well she is a descendant of a pure blood (hematoi) and a human, making her a half-blood.
Three years ago her mother took her away from the covenant ( a school for half-blood and pures, while also a community for the hematoi to live) and they’ve been on the run ever since. Ever moving, never settling.
One night the thing that Alex always worried about happend, the Daimons, Pure Bloods turned addicted to Aether (a magical force in their blood) which turned them into very lethal monsters, found them…
This story gives a little more background to Alex and her mother.
What did I like about this story
I liked that we saw a bit more of Alex’s mom. We got to know her a little bit, see what she was like. Even though we know from Half-blood what happened to Alex and her Mom, it’s interesting to see it actually happening.
Like I said above, you don’t have to start the series with Daimon, but it’s a good place to start if you want to.
Overall I enjoyed reading this little book.
