Bury your secrets. Bury them deep…A month after her high school graduation, small-town-girl Samantha “Sam” Bronwyn boards a plane with her best friend, Ginny. Destination: San Francisco. But when Ginny disappears inside an airport bathroom wearing Sam’s letterman jacket, it doesn’t take her long to figure out she was the intended target. Alone in a strange city, Sam’s on a run for her … run for her life–drawn into her mother’s dark past. A past she never knew existed. A past where secrets aren’t all that’s buried and where revenge comes at the highest price.
When her mother’s carefully hidden secrets come unearthed, they leave Sam reeling and desperate to save Ginny and herself. Who is Sam really–and who can she trust? The mysterious stranger in 4A who secreted a gun in his backpack? The guilty ex-con? The disarming FBI agent? Her own mother?
Only one thing is certain. Someone is after her. Someone who knows more about her than she does. Someone who wants to teach her a hard lesson: There are worse things than murder.
Told from dual perspectives–mother and daughter, then and now–Daddy Darkest poses the impossible question. If you could erase your past, would you do it? And at what price?
Daddy Darkest is a standalone and the first in the Doctors of Darkness series.

Someone has said that being beautiful is its own punishment. Clare Keely, a new psychologist at San Quentin, has struggled with her extraordinary beauty since childhood. The “curse” follows her into the prison. When she leaves less than six months later, she is personally disgraced and professionally discredited. Little wonder she escapes to a bucolic Texas town to pick up the pieces.
Given her dark and disturbing past, her new identity as a flower shop owner makes sense. Allowing her teenage daughter to take a post-graduation trip to San Francisco? Not so much. San Francisco is the setting for Clare’s darkest secret(s). Why would she let her daughter anywhere near the place? Headlines are screaming with the news of a serial killer on the loose–and he just happens to be Clare’s former patient. And he knows her past, and he wants her to pay. What better way than to plot the kidnapping of her daughter?
Told from Clare’s and her daughter’s points of view, the story unfolds at warp speed. Clare’s sexuality illuminates the pages. What happens inside the prison is at times unbelievable–except the author kept me reading into the night. The conclusion, though, left me dissatisfied. It is far too facile, but beautiful people often get a pass in life. Perhaps Clare’s rotten childhood–due to her beauty–is enough “justice.” Put this one at the top of your TBR list.
Great! Had you from page two!!!!
I wanted to like this book. It started out with great promise but became too predictable and then got really slow in the middle. It got to the point where I just wanted it to end, mainly because I hate to not finish reading a book once I start it. The older main character (there are really 2 main characters) was entirely too stupid in her behavior as a psychologist to be believed. Overall, not an enjoyable read.
Description of how prison operated not believable.
really scary premise…hard to put down.
Boy was I hooked as soon as they got off the plane and one girl disappeared. So, you had me from the beginning. Enjoyed very much.
Can’t wait for book two of the series.
The description of the book caught my attention right off the bat. But once I started reading it? Forget about anything else! This is a page-turning action-packed story with steamy, should-not-be happening scenes. I was intrigued from the beginning. It’s dark, it’s twisted, and the different views of how we got “here,” are perfect for making the story un-put-downable.
I little crazy but it can happen!
2 just graduated friends go on a trip to?? One uses the restroom and doesn’t come out. Upon searching for missing friend they find the lost ones cell phone. It says come find me. One thing after another in this read, loved it!!
If I could give 10 stars I would!
Not my favorite reading for the summer. Was very predictable and unrealistic
Dark and scary! This is what bad dreams are made of.
Was frustrating reading this book. All over the place!
I couldn’t stop reading it. I was surprised by the ending. Great book!
Extremely hard to put this book down! Kept me wanting to know what happens next.
I was surprised at how much I liked this book as it is not my usual fare. But I will read more by this author.
Story was too dark for me. Clare’s choices, while I got why she made them, were Unlikeable.
didn’t like it.
It could have been a good story but I didnt like the way characters were portrayed and in the end they just felt whiney. The story is strong though. I think if the characters had proper work done to them then this could turn out to be a proper little find but as it is I found it a little meh
