Bury your secrets. Bury them deep…A month after her high school graduation, small-town-girl Samantha “Sam” Bronwyn boards a plane with her best friend, Ginny. Destination: San Francisco. But when Ginny disappears inside an airport bathroom wearing Sam’s letterman jacket, it doesn’t take her long to figure out she was the intended target. Alone in a strange city, Sam’s on a run for her … run for her life–drawn into her mother’s dark past. A past she never knew existed. A past where secrets aren’t all that’s buried and where revenge comes at the highest price.
When her mother’s carefully hidden secrets come unearthed, they leave Sam reeling and desperate to save Ginny and herself. Who is Sam really–and who can she trust? The mysterious stranger in 4A who secreted a gun in his backpack? The guilty ex-con? The disarming FBI agent? Her own mother?
Only one thing is certain. Someone is after her. Someone who knows more about her than she does. Someone who wants to teach her a hard lesson: There are worse things than murder.
Told from dual perspectives–mother and daughter, then and now–Daddy Darkest poses the impossible question. If you could erase your past, would you do it? And at what price?
Daddy Darkest is a standalone and the first in the Doctors of Darkness series.

I love psychological thrillers, but I didn’t like the story, the characters or the writing in this book. This series is not for me.
Great original story.
This is the first time in reading this author picking this one because I wanted a solid story without alot of fluff. Since I adore mysteries also this one was a delightful find filling the desire to digest a suspenseful story. This author certainly does that with this one from the moment you are with Sam. There are several pieces with her having to follow each question looking for the answers. The danger is real with the emotions that are drawn from this pulling you to the edge slowly with if not careful we could fall. At times it is fast pace with Sam taking us every step of the way giving us one exhilarating read.
This thrilling dark read has more twists and turns then any thrill ride. It was raw and gritty and had me holding my breath and on the edge of my seat. It was both riveting and consuming.
It was a complex tale of devastating loss, seduction, betrayal, and love which is successfully weaved together to bring you a book you won’t be able to put down. This story shattered my mind and ripped my heart out.
I loved the story within the story.
The way the author went back and forth from past to present was excellently done.
The shocking conclusion to this story proves that the heart wants what the heart wants, your happy ending is what you make of it and that even the darkest of hearts can crack just enough to let a tiny shimmer of light in.
Samantha Bronwyn and her best friend Virginia “Ginny” Dalton are heading to San Francisco after graduation but their plans change quickly. When Ginny disappears from a bathroom in the airport Sam is desperate to find her but she has no idea who to trust.
Fellow passenger Levi Beckett seems to be everywhere that Sam is but is he really who he says he is and how is his life linked to Sam’s? When a serial killer is out on the loose could he be after Sam?
Can Sam get to the bottom of everything and get to Ginny in time?
This was an interesting read with lots of twists and turns to keep you involved from the start to the end.
I really liked Sam and I can’t imagine what she was going through when she discovered Ginny was gone. I was a little shocked that she was allowed on the trip by herself as I couldn’t imagine going to San Francisco with one friend at such a young age. That being said she was smart but out of her comfort zone and there were a few things she did that definitely had me freaking out.
One of the characters that we meet at the beginning is Levi and initially you have no idea which side of everything that he is on. He was interesting and I liked learning more about him and his back story and how everything linked up with Sam.
It was super interesting reading about Clare Keely and how she factored into the story with serial killer Clive Cullen. It was interesting seeing how the two dealt with everything in prison and everything each of them were up against with how they were treated by others.
There were so many twists and turns that lead you on a super interesting ride and I loved how slowly everything began to fall into place. I was shocked by a couple of things but there were a few other things I was expecting.
Looking forward to the next book in the series!
This is an expertly written dark and twisted psychological thriller. Having read Ellery Kane’s YA dystopian series already, I had high expectations (and excitement levels) upon beginning this book. I was not disappointed. I found it very difficult to put down this riveting read. I particularly enjoyed the duel perspectives and the refreshingly different tones as the story alternated between those two perspectives. Multiple unpredictable plot twists also keep this fast-paced story fascinating.
One moment your graduating high school and hopping on a plane with your best friend to California and the next you’re searching for your best friend who has now gone missing. And top that off with the fact that no one seems to believe you.
Enter a guy named Levi who was on the plane with these girls. And he will play a big part in what is going to take place.
Life takes it’s toll on a person when nothing you knew all your life is the truth. When your parents turn out to be total strangers and worse.
This book is gripping, suspenseful and downright dark. It held me captivated until I finished it. It’s that good.
I thought this was a great book. At first I didn’t like the way it went back and forth from present to past. But after I got use to it it wasn’t so bad. Loved the story.
I felt sorry for Claire Kelly….she was a victim of sexual abuse and lived out her life based on her own perception of this event. It made me sad to see the chatos that her victimization create in her adult life.
OK to start — rapidly descending to dumb — ending interminable !!
Good mystery
I stopped reading it with about 75 pages to go. It was predictable, and while I kept hoping it would get better, it didn’t. I got to the point where I didn’t even care if the bad guy got away or not.
I did not like this book! To think that someone as messed up as Clare could become a psychologist is messed up, even for fiction. The sexual abuse she suffered was terrible, but to kill her own baby? I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone!
I stayed up all night, had to finish it!
Loved it!
It isn’t too often I go with five stars – but there was just something about the chaos – the tone – the way I kept wanting more with each turn of the page –
If you are looking for a psychological thriller that has intense drama -heart pounding suspense with slightly twisted psychological undertones- No need to look any further- dear old Daddy Darkest has it all!
This one started out good and the author has an interesting writing style, but it was too easy to figure out where the story was going. About halfway through, I started having a hard time focusing on the story as it started to drag out a bit. There were some interesting characters, but it became confusing once more and more characters were introduced, each with their own story. It just became too much to keep up with, especially when reading about Clare’s past. That much detail of the past can be tricky when trying to maintain a reader’s interest and it just didn’t work well for me. I did push through to the end but felt like it took much too long to get there.
Not my typical type of book, but I loved the characters and kept coming back for more.
Good flow and exciting.
