Wow what a amazing book with the bad boy from the wrong side of the track and the rich girl that has it all.. Do you think you will have a chance at these two? This book has every emotion coming off the pages you feel like you are right their. This is a amazing series as I read the second book first but after reading this book I was able to put the story together very smoothly.. Ella has a wonderful writing style that will draw you in from the beginning and keep tell the very end.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Cyanide is my very first book by Ella Fields and I have to say I’m quite impressed.
Honestly, what made me want to read the book was its beautiful cover and I never actually bothered reading the blurb. Not knowing in what kind of story I was about to dive into I caught a free ride at an emotional roller coaster.
Jared is the perfect somewhat hot as hell bad boy with a motorbike, the panties melting smile and green eyes. Where he stands in life and what he build for himself and his brother is the result of hard work, staying down to earth and having a heart of gold.
Vera is the total opposite, although as well beautiful with blue eyes and a body to die for. Being raised in the beyond rich world she grew up being spoiled to death but not so much love as you wish every kid deserves (no matter from which side of the tracks).
Cyanide is the story about two worlds of soul mates colliding who couldn’t be more different from each other. Yes, I know. No new invention here, but with Ella’s captivating writing style and ability to show great character growth and development this story is something special.
I really like the chemistry between Jared and Vera and the way they influence each other, being oblivious to this fact. Jared shows Vera a whole new world and she somewhat realizes that this is all she ever wanted and that she needs to break free from her father’s grip and flee the golden cage she was trapped in her whole life. Vera learns through Jared what true happiness looks and feels like and what it means to love and being loved.
Vera is not a typical easy likable heroine but Ella managed somehow to make her easy to like. Might be that some of you will think different. Maybe I had no problems liking Vera because she is closer to me than I would think. However, all characters in this story felt so real to me because they are human. Yes Vera has it all but she also has her flaws and she knows. She works on that and really tries and succeeds with Jared’s help.
This book is really hot at times (hell, I once was too embarrassed reading a sex scene in public transport, so I simply closed the book, being afraid someone will look over my shoulder reading what I was reading – HAHA).
Cyanide will take you on a great roller coaster ride turning your emotions up and down. It was real fun reading this book following the unconventional couple on their way of finding true love and overcoming all obstacles thrown in their way.
Can’t wait to read the prequel “Frayed Silk” soon!
“To fall in love is to expose yourself to the worst danger imaginable; heartbreak.”
““Never judge a book by its cover, Hero. You never quite know what lurks within.” “Until you open it up and learn things you never guessed you would.””
“If you were a book, I’d read you, touch you, look at you every day and never get bored.”
“Loving Jared is akin to stepping outside on an overcast, rainy day, only to be surrounded by warm sunshine. Impossible. Surreal.”
I love a good angsty romance story and if you add the old rich girl /bad boy characters, I’m all for it.
This book reminds me why I loved other stories by the author in the past and while the “we were on a break “ Ross and Rachel plot twists it’s done well in here, I enjoyed more her arc growth and proving herself that she doesn’t need her father to be happy and make a life of her own.
OH MY HEART!!!!
Sweet sexy Jared Williams!!!
My dirty talking romantic!
Just a little background before I start my review! Cyanide is book 1 of the Surface Rust duet and it’s a spinoff from Frayed Silk. The hero from Cyanide was first introduced in Frayed Silk although do not have to read Frayed Silk in order to read Cyanide.
I won’t lie, when I first met Jared in Frayed Silk I spent the first half of the book not really clicking with him. But the second half of that book, I found myself somewhat falling for the vulnerable Jared that I saw come out. All of this was okay with me because it was not his book, but I was definitely intrigued by him when I finished Frayed Silk. It had to have been the epilogue for Frayed Silk that had me stumbling over the laptop keys trying to download Cyanide so I could get Jared’s story!
Even though we saw a little bit of Jared in Frayed Silk, the Jared Williams that exits inside Cyanide is my freaking kryptonite! He had this sweet charm about him yet at the same time such a filthy mouth that would leave your most promiscuous friend’s jaw on the floor and cheeks pink. Jared might not be what Vera’s dad wants for her but he is exactly what Vera wants. Especially after he continuously shows her who he really is underneath the lewd talking sexy surface he displays everyday.
Vera Bramston is your classic spoiled rich girl who always gets what she wants…right! I mean…right?!! That’s the image that you see when you look at her, but what’s that they say about not judging a book by it’s cover? YEA…be careful judging either of these two characters before you get to know them because I was pleasantly surprised quite often by them. Vera has lived the life of luxury and after having her heart broken very young, she closed it off to the possibility of ever letting anyone in for it to happen again. Until…a dirty talking hero rides in to save her!
Let’s just get to the main point…these two couldn’t be more different from each other but once Vera gets a small taste of Hero Jared…no way could she stop. Their moments together were perfection!! His sexy mouth and her sassy attitude melded together perfectly to create this banter that I enjoy between a heroine and her hero!
One of my favorite things was Vera’s girl gang; they might be rich and privileged but they exceeded my expectations as her best friends and I love that she had them!
I enjoyed every minute of this book and already have book 2 of the Surface Rust duet downloaded and ready to start!!!
Incredible love story of two very different people from two very different worlds meet having instant interest n each other. OMG!! Jared is every girls dream boyfriend!! He’s a sexy as hell bad boy that’s actually a good boy. He finds our heroine walking alone done a highway and decides to come to her aid on his motorcycle. She’s a feisty lady with a smart mouth who is obviously from the rich side of town. He can’t keep his eyes off of her. Her father is a miserable man that cares more about his reputation than his daughter and her happiness. As the story progresses, her father tries to come between them. I loved both characters so much. The feels are all there. There’s angst, sizzling hot sex, love so true and intense and extreme sadness and loneliness. Ella Fields has really written a beautiful story and 5 stars doesn’t even come close to how many she deserves.
Oh Jared, Jared, Jared. This man who has done some shady things has my heart. Ella has done a marvelous job of writing him in such a redeemable light that I yearn for him to get his HEA. And I think Vera is the perfect woman for the job because she sure as ish does not make it easy for him! As always Ella’s characters are written expressively, leaving each with a depth that pulls you in as a reader. There are all sorts of feels with this one—laughter, butterflies, angst, sadness and love! 5 stars for Cyanide!
Such an amazing book I absolutely loved it so much
4.5 stars.
I’ve read a few books by this author and I’ve yet to find one I didn’t love. Cyanide is Jareds story and I wasn’t expecting to like him as much as I did. Jared is the bad boy on the motorbike that comes to Vera’s rescue. They have an instant chemistry and the banter between them sucked me in. Vera isn’t as easy to like as Jared. It took me a little while to warm up to the spoilt rich girl who’s used to getting her own way. The more I found out about her though the more I liked her and by the end I thought she was a great character.
This is another great book from Ella Fields that I struggled to put down.
I have to admit I hated Vera to begin with, but when Jared finally got to her I couldn’t help but change my mind. To read about her softening to him, made me smile. I also laughed and cried so this book ran the gauntlet.
Jared and Vera are the couple that should never have worked out.
He’s the man from the wrong side of the tracks, and Vera is the Park Avenue princess. When Jared rescues Vera from a long, cold walk home their souls seem to recognize each other instantly.
This is the 2nd book by Ella Fields that I have read, and man she blows me away with her writing!
Vera is perfect with her snarky, cold demeanor and her willingness to walk away from the silver spoon she was born with. Jared is sex on a stick, while somehow still remaining the good, kind man underneath his gruff exterior.
When Vera’s happiness is threatened by a man she should have been able to trust will she abandon her high end life, or the man she has come to love?
Ella gave me all the feels, and the ugly cry with this extraordinary journey of two hearts doing their best to stay together. An amazing read with beautiful character development.
Cyanide is the spin off after Frayed Silk.. its standalone that you dont require to read it.. I need to gather my feeling after reading Cyanide.. its a strong title and it can burn your feeling with a deep hole because it is acidic..spicy and consuming..
What can an unknown can become so real? Vera is a young woman who arent sure about what she want.. having a luxury throughout her life doesnt mean that she is happy… to me, she is a character that is hard to swallow..maybe she can be naive, spoiled, pain in the ass… dry sense of humour .. but thats Vera.. with her situation, I can understand why..
I love the scene when Vera first meet Jared… a hot tattoo biker.. black sunglasses.. scruffy.. dirty talker.. someone who is totally not her league..
She feel intimidated…yet curious.. he made her grouchy.. irritated yet yearning for his attention,. Their relationship is super hot.. burning hot…Slowly they opened up their heart for each other and it may not be perfect..
Every story isnt perfect so is this one… it hurt.. it pain staking rollercoaster..
Loving can be a challenge..
Cyanide is an awesome book.. its not a safe romance… I love it when it burn
If there wasn’t another book that had you by the prologue like this one, as soon as i finished it i was like yep this is going to be an awesome book but i was wrong it was so freaking amazing i loved every bit of it.
This book was so different as for once the female character in this book was the bitchy one, she was the one who had money, she was the one that had me wanting her to change for the better and that is what kept me reading i needed to know how this story would end.
I did love Jared he was hard on the outside but he had a heart of gold on the inside and really was just trying to the best with his life, he didn’t take people’s crap and he might have thought he was lower than scum but at the same time he didn’t really let it get to him and just did his best.
Then come Vera spoilt, rich, does what daddy says but in a way it was also only for survival. The short snippets you got from her child hood just proved she never felt loved and she was pretty much grew up being told to have a cold heart. In a way she had a sad story even though she pretty much got whatever she wanted.
I really loved this story of boy meets girl, the connection and the fire between them, i liked all the obstacles they had to face and made for an amazing story. I loved Cleo and Isla as well those characters were funny. I must admit i loved the old man badger and when we find out his name it just brought the story so much more together.
I absolutely loved this story it was heartfelt, beautiful, angry, sexy and sometimes i just wanted to bang both characters heads against the wall but that’s what’s make me love these stories of being so invested.
This is my second book by Ella Fields and now I’m a fan for life because i can’t wait to read her other books. A massive 5 Stars for this book and now can’t wait for corrode.
was intriged by Jared the minute we were introduced to him in Frayed Silk. I wanted him to have his happily ever after and so glad that he did. Cyanide was such a beautiful story that I couldn’t help but feel that both the Jared and Vera were the perfect balance. They brought out the best of eachother and in doing so they both realised what they were missing.
Vera Bramston lived the life of a fairy princess, since she was young and raised by her father she was never in need of anything, everything she asked for it was delivered, but the only thing she really craved and wished for was love; enter her motorcycle riding hero Jared. From their very first meeting you could see that these two characters had a great deal of chemistry who says that opposits don’t attract in this case they do!
“No one’s perfect, Frost. But you? You’re perfect for me. Just the way you are.”
I would recommend this book without a doubt. If you are in the mood for a true romance that isn’t filled with too much drama but still has enough umph to it to keep you hooked than this book is for you! You will not be disappointed!
“I miss him. I want him. I still love him. But I also hate him.” ~Cyanide, Ella Fields
Having met Jared in Frayed Silk, I was not captivated by him- he pulled a seriously bad boy move that didn’t win me over. One thing I love about Cyanide is that it is addressed, and Jared recognizes it for the mistake it was.
Vera is not a likable person. She’s a spoiled, pretentious B, and I wanted to poke her eyes out a couple of times. But her heart… oh her heart made mine ache for her. Together, their passion and ultimately their love is undeniable.
Cyanide was everything I expected of Ella’s beautiful words. A story that is equally captivating and frustrating, hopeful and devastating. And luckily for my soul, has a beautiful ending.
This is a story of sacrificial love, as portrayed by Jared (for his family, and later Vera) by Vera (for Jared and Badger and even her father), and by Badger for Vera. With sacrifice comes pain, and Cyanide had no shortage there. As immature as the actions of both Jared and Vera were, they are realistic- I mean when one is hurt so deeply, welcoming another back is not a natural reaction. It took an epic move to open doors, and reopen hearts.
I love that the characters are not perfect. If they were, there would be no room for growth. And we can definitely see them mature in love.

Can we start with that amazing cover? It is absolutely eye-catchingly gorgeous.
Cyanide by Ella Fields is an explosively raw and heart-wrenchingly beautiful story of two individuals who are at opposite sides of the spectrum in the eyes of society but, who have an undeniably strong connection, a chemistry so fiery, neither one could deny.
And believe me, they both tried.
Vera isn’t your typical heroine. She isn’t meek, waiting for her prince charming. She isn’t poor, waiting for the white knight to rescue. She is rich, born with a silver spoon, spoiled, used to getting her way. But besides all that, she is strong, determined, shielded (and you’ll know what I mean by that when you get to know her character), and very frosty. Her experience with emotions like love and kindness is severely limited (almost non-existent) from childhood and on-wards. She is confident, strong-willed and outspoken. I love her.
Jared is your typical bad guy. He is rough around the edges. He definitely has a zero-fucks-given attitude and he does not hide this. He is a consummate flirt (seriously, ladies…sigh) and has a commanding presence that makes the women notice him. He is confident but also fragile, a ladies man and yet absolutely sweet when he wants to be. He is a conundrum in his own way.
Just like Vera.
Their story is stunningly beautiful in that it captivates a reader from the get-go. Their chemistry is absolutely astounding, they are passionate and it shows. The love they start to develop for each other is not instant, they fought against it and denied it as much as they could, but I like to believe, based on what I know while getting to know these two, that they are inevitable.
“All I know is I can’t get you to leave me alone.” He laughs at my confused expression.
“In my heart. You’re always there.” He sighs. “Those fucking eyes.” He moves his head back to look at me, brows furrowing. “Do you like haunting me, Frost?”
This is the very first book by Ella Fields I’ve ever had the chance to read and I love it! Cyanide is real. It’s not only a love story but a story of self-acceptance, of self-discovery, of growth. It is a story containing so many differing emotions, you need a breather after reading it. It is that good.
This panty-melting, wetness inducing, absolutely brilliant story of two people who just could not let each other go is one of the top reads of 2017. It is real. You will cry, you will hurt, you will root and you will hope, all within the pages of this book. Vera and Jared will hurt you, they will anger you, they will astound you even as they make you smile.
“That’s my girl. You remember, don’t you?” He kisses the underside of my jaw, and my head tilts back to the wall, my resolve fraying, “We are pretty hard to forget. Wanna know why?”
He licks my fluttering pulse, and I moan out a garbled, “No.”
He hums, “I’ll tell you anyway…because like any story that involves two people who fall in love, you’re my happy ending, and I’m yours.”
I fell.
Hard.
For the story.
For the characters.
For their love.
If you have not read this yet, it needs to be in your TBR list. Like, yesterday.
loved this series
Cyanide is the first in the Surface Rust series and is quite the delight. We first met Jared Williams in Frayed Silk and I’ll admit I didn’t like him very much. However, he is most definitely a hot, blue collar worker that’s sexy with a dirty mouth. He’s from the supposed wrong side of the tracks. Vera Bramston is rich, beautiful, strong and from the supposed right side of the tracks. They should be completely wrong for each other but they are not. Their love is all-consuming maybe even toxic. But is it really toxic when it’s right? Good friends, an evil parent and a sweet bookstore owner round out this great tale.
Jared was brought into my life when I read Frayed Silk. In that story I kept finding myself hoping that he was going to be mentioned more. Some people may have been rubbed the wrong way by him since he was trying to seduce a married woman. But I had a feeling that he was really just a big softy that was looking for love even if he did not want to admit it.
Vera was a spoiled little rich girl. Dating a guy she does not really like just to make her daddy happy. This story follows her journey to independence! The break away from her daddy’s money. What pushed her to severing the ties? Jared! The man from the wrong part of town.
This book was hard to put down. I just wanted to keep reading. I wanted to see how Jared and Vera got through their obstacles. Through the last 4 or 5 chapters my heart was pounding! It did not return to normal until about 30 minutes after I finished the book. I laughed, I cried, I was turned on, I got angry… you name it and I felt it! I LOVE when a book makes me have feeling so strong that it causes a physical reaction in me! Ella Fields has a wonderful gift for storytelling! And I can not wait for another one from her!
“To fall in love is to expose yourself to the worst danger imaginable; heartbreak.”
While reading this book, I could feel it here *points at heart*. #allthefeels This is only my second novel I’ve read of Ella Fields’, but I’m easily falling in love with her writing style and her stories one book at a time.
Vera and Jared are complete opposite’s in every sense. Vera is a rich, spoiled woman, whom has basically lived off her father’s money her whole life. Jared is a “grease monkey” from the other side of the tracks. They are NOT supposed to be together according to societies standards (and Vera’s father’s standards), but you can’t stop the instant attraction and the love that grows between them.
-This book is about fighting the odds. Yes, Vera and Jared are complete opposites in terms of their lifestyles and how they grew up, but it’s what’s inside that matters and the love that they share. They can overcome those odds if they REALLY want to last.
“You’re the greatest adventure I’ve ever had.” The admission pours from somewhere deep in my soul. “But when you look at me, I feel it everywhere…mainly here.” I tap my chest then lean on my toes to bump my nose against his. “If you were a book, I’d read you, touch you, look at you every day and never get bored.”
-This book is about “not judging a book by it’s cover”. The person you see on the outside, isn’t necessarily the person on the inside. Yes, Vera IS rich and spoiled, but deep down inside, there’s this little girl that wants to experience the world and the things that money can’t buy. Like the love that she’s always read about in her fairytale novels. Jared helps her become her true self and see what true love is all about and how you’d be willing to give up everything for it.
“Never judge a book by its cover, Hero. You never quite know what lurks within.” “Until you open it up and learn things you never guessed you would.”
-This book was about taking a risk. You won’t know how to live and learn if something (or someone) will make you happy unless you take a chance. Both Vera and Jared are risking a LOT being together, but they must learn if it’s worth the risk and to do so, they have trust each other and take the risk.
“Fear holds us both captive, only allowing us to hand out parts of ourselves. Piece by piece, one at a time. Testing the waters before we lose ourselves beneath the undertow. No one wants to drown; they want to make sure it’s safe. But I think we’ve now revealed enough to take another step forward and take a chance.” -Vera.
I enjoyed every minute of it of CYANIDE! This unconventional couple had me swooning, laughing, hurting and loving. It was an easy read with a peppering of angst throughout that had me craving more with each chapter read. Simply, I LOVED this book and would recommend it to any and all romance readers!
