★★★★★ “right up there with Hunger Games”I’ve reached my expiration date. Not that it matters. We’re all going to die.
To sixteen-year-old Micka, all words have flavours. Her emotions come with such force that she can’t help but carve them into her skin. The night she decides to kill herself, she meets Runner — a mysterious stranger who makes her question everything she’s learned about the end of … question everything she’s learned about the end of the world.
His message is terrifying: It wasn’t some mysterious disease that killed ten billion people. We did this. Humanity sleepwalked into climate disaster and ecocide, just to butcher and rape until blood stained the seas.
Micka is sure Runner is lying. Her instincts urge her to stay far away from him. But he makes her an offer she finds hard to resist. There are only two rules she must follow:
Kill.
Survive.
Because the final wars were never meant to end.

Warning: Contains violence and other content which may be triggering to readers.more
The below warning comes from a review on another site, but I feel it best states what I want to say before I go into my review:
*Warning: This book is not for the faint of heart. Do not buy if you abhor violence, intense language, and non-explicit sex.
If the above warning doesn’t pertain to you , then you HAVE to read this book! It’s a …
Well written story that follows from book to book. Would really like more in this vein. Alternatively would love to find more written by this author
I found this book to one of those that you can’t put down till it was finished. Felt the need to know what was going to happen next.
This woman has a lot of personal issues but otherwise good book. She overcomes a lot of obstacles
Her writing style is crisp and unencumbered.
Totally enjoyed this book and read the others. This series was a page tuner and I am waiting for the last in the series.
Loved it!
I enjoyed this book and hope everyone will give it a shot
This book just wow. Is all I can say. Very captiving read.
Wendeberg makes an angst ridden, suicidal teenager a sympathetic character and we go on a thrill filled ride with her, as she questions every step of the journey. Absolutuely fun trip and only complaint is the book is too short. On to volume 2…
if not wonderful, at the very least COOL characters. What an interesting read…hopefully it stays SCI-FI and doesn’t turn “realistic” though…possible. I liked Micka’s palatable descriptions! Everything has a flavor to her! Things that you’d not normally associate with “taste”. Liked it. Very interesting … be forewarned, it’s Book 1 of a …
Let’s not glorify cutting, eh?
I was not impressed.
My only issue with the author is that they spend too much time reiterating events
Loved this, and now I am hooked and will have to buy the next volume.. Can’t stand the cliff hanging here….I need to know more!
I really, really liked this book. And went on to read the entire series. It can be gritty and disturbing in parts, but these parts all lend credence to the narrative. It’s a tough and gritty battle for survival in this world. Following Micka’s personal growth in the apocalyptic setting is addicting. And as the events that formed this future are …
Excellent book
Start with: I’m not a fan of post apocalyptic books. I enjoyed this book a great deal. There are unfortunate and cruel histories for some of the characters that are discussed, but not used as the total focus for the character. I am look ng forward to the next book.
I was a bit surprised by this book. I love those set in the future and was pleased to see this one so differently done. I didn’t get bored one bit during the whole thing and enjoyed the strength of the characters! Good for adults or teens
The book is immediately erratic and the character so self effacing and overtly suffering from depression that for the reader to relate to the character would make walking into that state.
I couldn’t get past the first 30 pages. :/
