As a thriller lover, I look for books that will absolutely pull me into the heart of the story, take me on a rollercoaster ride, and throw me down in unexpected places. Books that will leave me turning the pages, long into the night, trying to piece the puzzle together. This one, however, didn’t hold up to that.
Now, don’t get me wrong, the characters are chiseled nicely, but there was something lacking with the plot line. It maybe because I came into the series at book 16, or it could be that I just didn’t set well with this one, but it was definitely not my favorite.
With that said, I will tell you to give this a try. The writing style is good, and the characters are likable. What I find lacking, you may find absolutely captivating. And, despite this being a 2.5 star read for me now, I will go back later, after I’ve read all the books in the series, and give this another try.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Author/Publisher and was under no obligation to post a review, positive or negative.*
Loved it! This one brought back Lucy Kincaid and Max Revere, both doing their thing. At first it appears they have separate cases they are investigating but when their paths start to cross things get a little dicey. Bodies are discovered, cars are forced off the road, people are shot in front of them, and there is definitely a who-done-it twist all through it. Definitely one to keep you on the edge of your seat. This can be read as a standalone and not part of the series.
I can’t get enough of Allison Brennan’s Lucy Kincaid. I stay up way too late reading to the very last page.
#16 in the Lucy Kincaid series and they just keep getting better and better. While you don’t have to read the previous 15 books in order to read this one, I do suggest you start at the beginning so that you can meet all the awesome characters.
Another edge of your seat, action packed, page turner with twists/turns, intertwined stories, characters that are just like family, and just the right amount of romance.
I am a die hard Allison Brennan fan and I love the Lucy Kincaid series. To be honest, I LOVE all the series!!!

This is a well written, entertaining suspense novel with plenty of twists and turns, an interesting plot, and two of my favorite characters, Lucy Kincaid and Max Revere. It is perfect as a stand alone and even better if the other books in both series have been read previously. Allison Brennan never disappoints her readers!
She is a must-read I always look forward to her next book you will not be disappointed in her writing she is great will keep you up at night just reading
Once again Allison Brennan has delivered an incredible thriller with Cut and Run. I could not put it down. I loved every page. I love the relationship between Lucy and Sean and all the descriptions of locations in Texas. Cut and Run includes all the plot twists and turns, and the occasional bittersweet moment that I have come to expect and enjoy in Allison Brennan’s wonderful stories. Cut and Run is the most recent story in the Lucy Kincaid series. Lucy Kincaid is an FBI agent in San Antonio, and Sean is her husband, who is a jack of all trades, from private investigator to security consultant. The story begins as bones are discovered during flooding in a neighboring community. The bones are identified as belonging to the Albright family who went missing three years ago, supposedly driving into Mexico, following the embezzlement of $3 million from one of Denise Albright’s clients. Lucy and Nate are called in for assistance with the cold case. Maxine Revere, reporter and cold case investigator, is in the area researching the recent death of the daughter, Victoria Mills, of one of her late grandfather’s friend. As Lucy and Nate investigate their cold case and looking for the bones or whereabouts of Ricky Albright who was nine years old when he disappeared, Sean and Max are investigating what happened to Victoria Mills, and why Stanley Grant, the confessed murderer, has recanted his confession. I love how Allison Brennan connected the seemingly unrelated cold case with the current case. That was truly a surprise. Cut and Run had me guessing as to who was the mastermind behind all the events and illegal activities throughout the story. I love how Allison Brennan always writes about strong women: Lucy, Maxine, all the other FBI agents and the local police officers. They are amazing women. Once again, Allison Brennan proves that she is a master storyteller and that is why I love her books. All her books are always a must read for me. My favorite part of Cut and Run are the surprises that occur at the end of the book for both Lucy and Max. I thoroughly enjoyed Cut and Run.
I have loved Allison Brennan’s stories for many years, and this latest installment in this series is no different! I’m always drawn into the words with this author and don’t want the story to end, at the same time I couldn’t stop reading to see what would happen next! This is part of a series but can completely be read as a stand alone, however I think if you read one, it’ll be no time before you go back and read them all! Phenomenal characters, writing and storyline all make for an amazing reading experience. Thank you Netgalley for my copy in return for an honest review.
A family who was thought to have run to Mexico to escape the law is found in a grave but they are missing one child. Is that child alive? Is that child in a different grave? Cut and Run centers around the Albright family and their son Ricky. The reader is taken on a roller coaster of twists, turns, upside downs, and drops while following the path that Allison Brennan wrote. I anticipated what would happen next but many times I was way off the path. I tried to guess, I tried to stay on the path, but that path just kept me guessing.
The dynamics between Lucy, Max, and Sean was interesting. They all had different styles of investigating and were working different cases but these cases wove together, keeping the characters intertwined, and the story flowing perfectly. I liked seeing how they trusted or didn’t trust each other, how they shared what they found or didn’t share, and how they were able to put the clues together to solve their respective cases.
I am a fan of Allison Brennan and cannot wait to read more of her Lucy Kincaid series. I’d recommend picking up Cut and Run and enjoying a thriller of a story.
Brutal murders, embezzling, and illicit gambling clubs await readers of Allison Brennan’s latest Lucy Kincaid crime thriller.
It was a wicked storm. Torrential rainfall. The side of the grave was eroded by all the water gushing around it and that’s how the grave was discovered. Inside the grave the bones of four people were found. Indications are the bodies had been buried there for three years prior to discovery. Following DNA testing the victims were identified as the Albright family who were thought to have fled to Mexico to hide from charges against Denise Albright. But the youngest, nine-year-old Ricky’s body wasn’t in the mass grave. Cadaver dogs were brought in to try to find where Ricky was buried but no remains were found. Could he still be alive? Doubtful but still a possibility.
FBI agents Lucy Kincaid and Nate Dunning are assigned to this cold case. The victims had been shot execution style. Both Lucy and Nate were outraged at the brutality. Two of the victims were teenage girls. It is believed that one of the victims, the teen girls’ mother Denise Albright embezzled three million dollars. No one can find the money. That’s important to Lucy and Nate but their priority is finding the missing boy if he is still alive. But could a nine-year-old boy hide and escape from whoever killed his parents? Where could he go? How could he have survived for three years?
In the meantime Lucy’s husband PI Sean Rogan is working on a more current case. He has been hired by renowned investigative reporter Maxine Revere to look into the recent murder of Victoria Mills. Maxine and her family are longtime friends of the Mills family who asked Max to look into the murder. When the man who confessed to murdering Victoria recants his confession and wants to change his plea Max decides to get hands-on with the case so she travels to San Antonio to work with Sean. Max and Sean discover a connection between Denise Albright and Victoria Mills. Suspiciously Victoria was murdered right after the announcement by the media the bones found in the mass grave belonged to the Albright family. Is this a coincidence or a connection?
Cut and Run by Allison Brennan is the sixteenth book in this author’s Lucy Kincaid series. Allison Brennan is a master storyteller who always treats her readers to well-plotted storylines, authenic dialogue and meticulously researched details. Cut and Run has all this and more. There’s edge-of-your-seat suspense with twists and turns and lots of surprises. Lucy and Sean have worked with Maxine Revere before and it’s great to see them working together again. I loved this story! Allison Brennan is a favorite author of mine and I would highly recommend any story written by her but her Lucy Kincaid series is my favorite. Please keep them coming, Ms. Brennan.
Cut and Run is another book in the Lucy Kincaid series, wow what a great book. As with all the previous books this is another action packed storyline. Even though this is a part of a series, you can still read this as a stand alone in my opinion. Lucy is back and so is Max in this last who-done-it. I would certainly recommend this book to those that enjoy a good thriller.
I received an Advanced Readers Copy from NetGalley and St. Martins Press, and this is my fair and honest review.
Another great book with Lucy taking the lead. It was fun to have Lucy and Max back together figuring out another case. Though this time they are working on different ones. Sean is helping Max in this one. The case is way convoluted and takes a lot to figure everything out. You can read this book as a stand alone but you will get more of background for both Lucy and Max if you read this in order. I would really like a book were Sean helps Lucy like side by side but that’s a personal feeling and does not take away from the books at all. This story is well written and makes you second guess everyone. Lucy and Nate work well together and it shows on the pages of the book.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
This latest installment in the Lucy Kincaid series started out kind of slow for me. Sad to say it took me a while to get into it. However, I kept going as this is one of my favorite lead characters/series. I’m happy to say I ended up really enjoying the story. Lucy did not disappoint!!
I look forward to the next one.
Thank you #netgalley and #stmartinspress for the eARC.
