Twin sisters separated by the past are reunited by unspeakable crimes in New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton’s throat-clutching novel of suspense… dark alley after midnight is just one mystery. The other is more unsettling: Macy is Faith’s mirror image—the twin sister she never knew she had.
Faith knew that she was adopted, but now she’s finding that her childhood concealed other secrets. Following the trail of clues Macy left behind, Faith and Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden make a shocking discovery on an isolated country ranch—a burial ground for three women who disappeared thirty years before.
They weren’t the only victims in a killer’s twisted plot. And they won’t be the last.
As the missing pieces of Faith’s and Macy’s dark lives snap into place, Faith is becoming more terrified by what she sees—and by what she must do to save her sister and herself from the past.

Really love the author, have read all books so far.
Very good reading, I will be looking for other books by Mary Burton!
This was a well written book. It moved at a good pace, had likable characters, and had enough twists and turns to keep me interested. The murder of a gritty old salvage yard owner leads to a relook at the unsolved separate disappearances of three female teens twenty some years ago and one recent disappearance. As the investigation moves forward under the direction of a seasoned Texas Ranger the connections start to grow and the local medical examiner finds herself drawn into the middle of it along with a pregnant teen that she has taken under her wing. Family connections aren’t what they seem and decades old secrets and lies lead to more deaths and mayhem before the cases are eventually solved. I didn’t see how the title fit in with the story, but the plot was interesting. I would recommend this book.
Holy Cannoli, I didn’t see That coming!
Another excellent mystery to solve with cringing, smiles, and romance involved! The characters are very easy to get involved with so be prepared.
Mary Burton has become a favorite of mine for romantic suspense. This book was terrific!
Wow , what an amazing very well written story. I loved it so much that i honestly never wanted it to end. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. CUT AND RUN is an expertly crafted mystery. The plot is suspenseful and thrilling at all times. It really is a roller coaster of a ride.
Mary Burton tells a fantastic story of kidnapping, selling babies, cold case of some young missing girls that went missing around the same time Faith and Macy were born, murders, monster who enjoys torturing before killing, and twins who were separated at birth, a young young girl who is missing and due in just a couple weeks , a burned body of a woman under a bridge, and a hit and run that was ment to leave one of the twins dead. Caught your attention yet ?The way Burton brings all of this together is brilliantly displayed in her descriptive writing style.
All of the characters were very well developed, and done in such a way you really care about them.Burton’s writing style is engaging and fearless .There is alot of twist and turns, and it kept me interested from the first page til the last. This is my first book by this author but will not be my last . I want to read all the books she has . I look forward to reading more of her work.
If you read one of Mary Burton’s books you will want to read all of them.
Looking for a great romantic thriller writer? Mary Burton is a great choice.
I think I stopped breathing about half-way through this book and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to get this complex story figured out! Such a unique story! I enjoyed all the twists and turns and the unpredictability!
Great plot and characters
I am a huge fan of Mary Burton, and this book did not disappoint. As always there was a lot to like…kidnapping, a sexy no commitment affair between two people who fall in love, identical twins in jeopardy, strong female characters, smart characters, pure evil.
Once I start one of Burton’s books, I can’t put it down. Worst of all, I can’t get enough of Burton. I had to rush out and buy another of her books.
I am not a great fan of mysteries, however, this book had me on the edge of my seat from chapter one and didn’t let go until the last page. This book will be one of my favorite twisted stories to get back into the next time I want to read scary tale.
I love romantic suspense books and this one had a nice plot. The romantic part just wasn’t there. I never really believed the romance between the main characters. At the beginning they were just two people who scratched an itch and I truly didn’t believe the discovered true love between them. A cardboard romance describes that part of the book.
I really enjoyed it. Kept me going.
Cut and Run is another solid hit from Mary Burton. I read a lot of romantic suspense, mysteries and thrillers so it’s hard for me to find a story that I cannot figure out “who did it”. Well every time I thought that I knew the answer, Cut and Run threw me another twist. This story is about many things, a FBI agent named Macy Crow’s father has been murdered and he sent her a message. A Texas ranger named Mitchell Hayden is on the case and he’s looking for answers as well. The problem is that every time he thinks that he as an answer, another question pops up. Our final main character is Faith McIntyre. She’s the medical examiner and gets drawn into this case because she’s the mirror image of Macy Crow. Faith knew that she was adopted as a baby but doesn’t know who her birth parents were or if she has any relatives. This is a gritty, raw and intriguing mystery that is told from multiple points of view and will keep you reading late into the night until you get the answers to all your questions. I really enjoyed it and it’s a 4 1/2 star rating for me.
Great story. Loved the characters who all had some type of hang-up. Had stopped reading murder mysterys a few years ago but after trying a couple like this i am back to reading them.
As always, Burton’s plot is provocative and alluring. She leads the reader down a twisted tale of missing girls and murder. The characters were well developed and the multifaceted plot worked well to advance all the different directions of suspense and mystery that were occurring. The reader is able to become immediately invested in the main characters and outcome. As all good mystery novels go, Burton keeps you guessing until the very end with no shortage of suspense along the way. 4 stars.
Wowza was this story INTENSE!!! This is my first Mary Burton novel and I can’t wait to get my hands on her backlist. Since this was a new to me author I really had no clue going in what to expect but boy am I ever glad I took a chance.
Even though there were so many twists, turns, and unexpected plot twists, the author did a superb job of weaving it all together. I stayed on track and in fact, struggled to put it down when I had to. Despite this being primarily a suspense/thriller novel, I enjoyed that the author threw in a romance element as well with the relationship that blossomed and grew between Faith and Mitchell.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing right until the very end when I was blown away. Hopefully the author has a story in mind for Macy next.
If you are big on intense, moment to moment, edge of your seat suspense then this is the book for you. There is so much going on in this book and so many players involved one would think it would be hard to keep it all straight but Burton’s flowing storyline and engaging characters, along with descriptive details make it all work. It was impossible for me not to be drawn into this suspenseful murder mystery from the beginning. I have been reading Burton’s work for a while because I really enjoy her writing style and the way she draws you into the story. There is a constant pull from page to page that just keeps me enthralled. There are plenty of surprises and twists and turns to keep you guessing the outcomes of all involved parties in this book. I enjoyed Faith and Mitchell’s characters; they were easy to relate to and made an interesting couple. I loved seeing their relationship evolve and wish Burton would have expanded on it just a tad more. This story is a bit on the darker side but it does not go overboard with overly descriptive scenes and it is definitely not for the faint of heart. If you are looking for a heartwarming read, then this is not the book for you. However, if you are looking for something that will have your heart pounding, keep you guessing, that is chock full of suspense, murder and mayhem with shocking twists and a touch of romance, including a HEA then look no further…this is the book for you.
