From #1 New York Times-bestselling author W.E.B. Griffin comes a dramatic thriller in the Clandestine Operations series about the Cold War, the fledgling Central Intelligence Agency—and a new breed of warrior. January, 1946: Two WACs leave an officers’ club in Munich, and four Soviet NKGB agents kidnap them at knifepoint in the parking lot and shove them in the back of an ambulance. That is the … back of an ambulance. That is the agents’ first mistake, and their last. One of the WACs, a blonde woman improbably named Claudette Colbert, works for the new Directorate of Central Intelligence, and three of the men end up dead and the fourth wounded.
The “incident,” however, will send shock waves rippling up and down the line, and have major repercussions not only for Claudette, but for her boss, James Cronley, Chief DCI-Europe, and for everybody involved in their still-evolving enterprise. For, though the Germans may have been defeated, Cronley and his company are on the front lines of an entirely different kind of war now. The enemy has changed, the rules have changed—and the stakes have never been higher.

The story was a continuation of the other books in the series. If you don’t read them in sequence, it is hard to understand the story line. And none of the stories actually come to an appropriate end. They all leave you hanging and waiting for the next book in the series.
Well….I liked WEB Griffins work. But with Mr Butterworth, he spends so much time setting the stage, that the grand exciting finish is anticlimactic.
A hot page turner with lots of action
nobody writes military better
W.E.B. Griffin does it again. Terrific storyline, great characters, good action. A real winner.
As always great historical facts not generally known interwoven into a riveting fiction. Also, as always, borrows heavily from previously published books by the same authors to include lengthy “messages” and other documents where a reference should have sufficed..
Typical of all his books. This follows the set and prescribed format for all his books.
Griffen is a great author. I have read all of his books and reread some of them,
and I don’t reread many authors.
I read all in this set. Great read.
Fourth in the series and it keeps it interesting. Some new twists and old characters. I had a blast.
I enjoy reading about historical events that are written with characters that can keep me engaged in the story. Much more fun than reading a history text, and it often makes me want to research some of the history further.
