This book takes us from where “Fooled Around and Spelled in Love” ends. It also takes place in the town of Everlasting, Maine and many of the characters from the first book appear in this story also. Marcy Lewis works for Anna Crawford at the Witches Brew, the local coffee shop. Marcy’s job and her cats are two of the solid things in her life. She’s single and cursed – yes, seriously – and is doomed to ending up in one broken relationship after another and for a short time becoming what the latest guy wants in a girlfriend. One particularly nasty element of the curse keeps her from telling anyone about it. In this story we get a good-looking fire fighter with secrets of his own, a mystery growing more dangerous by the day, and a big dose of wonderful, wacky Aunt Polly! If you like cozy paranormal mysteries with likeable characters and a good story, you’ll enjoy this book. You don’t have to read the first book in the series (Fooled Around and Spelled in Love) to enjoy this one, but it’s a good story too and you’ll get the background on the characters in this book.
Marcy is cursed – actually cursed. Cursed to be attracted to the wrong guys with the relationship ending in disaster. When the new fireman arrives in town she is instantly attracted to him, so she thinks that the curse strikes again. She finally gets someone (a witch) to understand that she is cursed, but when asked, she has no idea who cursed her. They must know who cursed her before it can be fixed. That is the mystery that must be solved. Only then will she find out if a relationship is real or part of the curse.
Marcy is a young woman wondering why she is going through the hard ache of losing another man but it is not that she really loved Donnie but she sure didn’t think that he would leave and rob her. On her way to work, she sees a fire truck go by and she believes that is a reason she wants to bake today. In Everlasting Maine, she should not be surprised it is a place of the paranormal and supernatural. But when she meets Nicholas Logan the new firefighter who is very attracted to Marcy but she doesn’t want anything to do with him and if it wasn’t for the fact that he has a special ability they may not have gotten together so soon. I enjoyed Marcy and Nicholas’s tale of curses, heartache, fear, and love, as well as Aunt Polly’s antics. This was heartwarming romantic comedy suspense. Loved it as well as the characters. This book has it all drama, suspense, romantic comedy, some adventure, and action. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This second in series brings us back to Everlasting, Maine where witches and other supernaturals are the norm. All of our favorite characters are back, making us feel right a home. Marcy’s curse has plagued her for years, but maybe Aunt Polly can help end her suffering, she definitely keeps everyone grinning. While there are no sexy times here, Marcy and Nicholas’s instant attraction adds just enough spice to a twisty mystery for a great read.

Michelle does not disappoint with this book. It is about Marcy, Anna’s manager at the Witches Brew. It has a curse, fires, a stalker & IMO, the most FANTASTIC character…Aunt Polly! On top of that there are many twists & turns & oh, didn’t see that coming.
Easily readable in one sitting & if you are a cozy mystery fan or a Michelle M Pillow fan I highly recommend!
Hooked immediately on this series. This is the first book I have read by Michelle Pillow, but it will not be the last. This story has a fresh and interesting premise. Marcy Lewis has a curse that has ruined her love life since she was in high school. Who cursed Marcy. Follow the clues and enjoy the trip through the supernatural town of Everlasting.
4 Star review of Curses & Cupcakes (The Happily Everlasting Series #6) by Michelle M Pillow
Audio Review:
I have found myself devouring cozy mysteries recently. Having listened to a couple of books by Michelle M Pillow and narrator B.J. Harrison I was looking forward to Curses & Cupcakes.
I found the story and narration entertaining
and easy to listen too. The voices were engaging and certainly brought the story to life.
Marcy Lewis managed the Witch’s Brew Coffee Shop and Bakery (such a great name for a coffee shop).
She knows she is cursed so trying to date is a nightmare. However the newest addition to Everlasting, firefighter, Nicholas Logan is intrigued by Marcy.
When danger rears it’s head, it looks as though Marcy is the one in danger. Nicholas and Marcy join forces to investigate. What follows is a story filled with romance, mystery, humour, secrets and danger, with enough clues to keep you guessing.
Marcie is doomed to romantic failure. Ever since high school she has lurched from one bad relationship to another, always losing herself to whatever her paramours image of an “ideal woman” was. After her last break up she just wants to recover and get back to being…her for a while.
But on the way to work she passes a fire engince and caught a quick glimpse of a firefighter. She couldn’t see much of him but it was enough to put her on red alert. No Hot firefighter, adrenaline junkies for her. She wants peace and quiet!!!
Nick is still getting used to this very quirky town. He was transferred to help teach up to date investigation techniques but they handle some weird calls! He can’t believe his luck when he meets the lovely Marcie but from her reaction to him, he thinks he may have come on too strong. But as they get to know each other, they quickly realise that Marcie is in danger from a stalker and possibly the same person who cursed her long ago.
As usual Polly is in the thick of things, at least this time she is more help than hindrance! Her idea of a sleep over/curse removal was a hoot! It was very poignant when Marcie realises that she is staying herself this time…no dramatic makeovers, Nick likes her not some imagined fantasy.
Keep ’em coming!
