An addictive young-adult fantasy based in a realm of Greek mythology, sure to please fans of Percy Jackson and The Sweet Evil Trilogy.
In a modern world still ruled by the Greek gods, being a monster is more than a curse–it’s a death sentence.
Seventeen year-old Hope Nicholas has spent her entire life on the run. With her mom, she’s traveled from town to town, barely staying long enough to … town, barely staying long enough to meet anyone, let alone make friends. And she’ll have to keep it that way.
It’s safer.
Hope knows that demigods, monsters, and shadow demons aren’t just myths. They are realities that threaten her very existence. After tragedy strikes, Hope’s life shatters. Was this the fulfillment of Apollo’s curse? Have the demigods discovered her? Is she being hunted?
Orphaned and alone, Hope flees again, determined to survive. But when the handsome Athan Michael comes to her aid, everything changes. Suddenly, Hope must decide what she values most–safety or love.

I loved this book so much that once I got started reading it, I could not put it down. I haven’t seen another book about a Sphinx, So I was intrigued. I am so glad I read this book.
The book follows Hope, as she moves to the small town of Goldendale after her mother’s death. She has been taught her entire life to stay invisible and blend in as much as possible because she is under a curse. She carries the curse of the Sphinx, which forces her to turn into this creature once a month. She must stay hidden because many evil beings are after her and seek to harm her. Even after her efforts to fly under the radar she is unable to keep away from a very handsome young man, Athan. Their love blossoms and soon becomes dangerous for both of them.
I enjoyed this novel because as I said it is very unique.
I personally love mythology and this book was full of it. You don’t find many books these days with mythology and you certain don’t find books with a mythological creature as the main character.
This was a great Read by a great author looking forward to reading the next book DemiGods and Monsters
Absolutely love Raye’s books. This was the first one I read (I’ve read more since), and I’m hooked!
Actual Rating: 3.5 stars
Let me just say that I love Greek mythology and I get loads of it in this book. I didn’t know much about the Sphinx before reading this book, but it so good.
I enjoyed reading this book. I like that the reader gets in depth history surrounding the Sphinx which our main character Hope happens to be. Life is hard for her and I found myself slightly sympathetic to her ordeal. She moves all time and is hunted by Skia. She transforms into the Sphinx two days a month I believe and has to be careful not to be sighted. I also liked that Hope was very capable of taking care of herself and has some good fighting abilities that come in handy more than once. I liked Anthan and Hayley. Athan’s character was such a mystery and I could not figure him out, but I loved him.
As much as I liked that Hope could kick some serious butt, she was also so annoying. I just couldn’t get on board with her. I think she made some terrible decisions. For ex. why would you continue to go running at night when you’ve been attached and continuously followed. It drove me crazy. While this book was great at giving me lots of Greek history of demigods and monsters, I felt that I could have gotten a little more information as to why Hope was so important and why the Gods wanted her so bad.
I do recommend this book though. Its entertaining and has lots of action. If you like Greek mythology that you will love this for sure.
A promising read!
An ancient curse…
A (mistaken) monster…
Life on the run…
Mythical creatures…
Forbidden love…
Right from the start, the writing did me in! So diggin’ it!
Hope’s spent her life on the run – no friends, no attachments. Only isolation in order to be safe. What a lonely and tiring life.
The story is so addicting and so promising! Looking forward to reading the whole series.
Full of monsters, gods, demigods, curses, secrets, loss, loneliness, romance and fear.
Perfect for readers of Greek mythology/fantasy romance.
I wasn’t into mythology until I read this. Now I can’t get enough.
