Nick Fairfax vows to do whatever Lord Bane Dunsaney desires for one year. In exchange, Nick’s family gets a chance to regain their fortune. Is this the worst mistake of Nick’s life, or will it lead to a love only found in fairy tales? A modern, M/M retelling of Beauty & The Beast.
Sensitive, aspiring photographer Nick Fairfax wants nothing to do with his family’s corporate business, or … business, or their vicious, cold-blooded lifestyle. Intending to give up his inheritance and pursue his art, he arrives at his father’s office, only to find that Fairfax Industries has fallen to a scarred man in a hooded cloak.
The man is the reclusive billionaire Lord Bane Dunsaney, and he is bent on destroying the Fairfaxes. But when he sees Nick, everything changes. Bane offers the Fairfaxes the chance to regain their fortune if Nick will reside at Moon Shadow, his secluded mansion, and do whatever the billionaire wants for a whole year. Nick has no real choice other than to agree to Bane’s terms.
At Moon Shadow, Bane lords his power over Nick, going even so far as to take Nick’s phone, computer and beloved camera away. The billionaire claims such measures are to protect his privacy, but Nick is convinced they are so Bane can control him.
Each is determined to see the worst in each other. But as time passes, Nick glimpses a Bane that is much more than the cold-hearted figure that he met in his father’s office. He discovers that Bane is a man betrayed by love and no longer believes in it.
But what Nick comes to know about Bane is nothing compared to the man’s true secret. Bane is cursed. He is a tiger-shifter who has no control over his beast. And that beast wants Nick.

A cursed read!
He is cursed…
He is a tiger-shifter who has no control over his beast…
And that beast wants him…
Wow…I had this book is sitting in my kindle gaining dust all this time and I can’t believe I didn’t read this series sooner.
There are no words to describe how enchanting, entertaining and hooking it is.
And the way it ended, let’s just say I am so glad I already have the rest of the books in the series (and that all of the books are out).
Full of cursed, beasts, fortune, destiny, consequences and attraction.
Perfect for readers of fairytale retellings.
Cursed – Broken – X Aratare – It’s like the traditional BatB with the useless siblings because this Belle (Nick Fairfax – gender bender decided to put the pretty in his last name) is the only son who won’t join the family business scavenging and dissolving companies for their own profit. Bane, you guessed it he’s the Beast, is a very wealthy businessman who thwarts their latest plan to profit from one of his companies. Bane is balancing being both Beast and Enchantress in this story because he gives Nick’s family a chance to use their money making brains for good in his company while Nick is sent to work on his estate. Nick’s dream to be a photographer means he loves the crazy moldering ruin Bane lives in, and Nick uses his charm to get Bane to let him photograph it as well as clean it. But Bane also carries a curse from India that his servant/mother hen butler Omar thinks Nick can help him break. I have the next two books in this serial bookmarked for Christmas presents to myself! Happy Reading!
I was totally caught up in this book by the end and so glad that book two is immediately available because I’m jumping right in to that!
In this m/m retelling of Beauty and the Beast Nick, the youngest son of a greedy businessman is forced into a year of indentured servitude to Bane in order to prevent his father and brothers (who PS don’t give a damn about Nick) from losing everything and being thrown out onto the streets.
Bane (the Beast in this retelling) is a literal beast…he shifts into a white Bengal tiger. The explanation for this interesting and a bit of social commentary.
The relationship builds slowly as Nick begins to see that Bane isn’t so bad and Bane realizes he has judged Nick unfairly without knowing anything about him except who is family is.
The storytelling is creative and mostly compelling. There are points where the story arc slows down a bit and some elements I think could have been left out. A good editor probably could have helped. Additionally a better proofreader would have been helpful as there are quite a few typos and points where the wrong name is used which makes the story confusing.
The last part of the story is exciting and the tension builds. We know something is coming and when it occurs it is one of those hold your breath moments. It also appears to be the set up for whatever is going to happen in book two that will be the corollary to Gaston’s “kill the beast” as Bane has made some enemies.
The big cliffhanger ending leaves you feeling badly for both MCs and pretty ticked off at a tiger spirit who is whining but is responsible for the current state of events. Glad I can jump right in to book two.
The erotic scenes are well written making it feel like you are experiencing it yourself
repetitious how many times do we need read Siberian blue eyes
This is a retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story, with gay characters. As I already knew the story, I could enjoy the subtle nuances in this retelling.
Definitely was left hanging at the end.
Excellent book, but it is part of a series. The story doesn’t end with this book.
Wow, this one retelling puts the original to shame (even the movie)!
Nick was ready for a major life change, but not the one he got. Ready to part with his money obsessed family he goes into his father’s office to say his goodbyes. He wants to pursue his dream of being a photographer and he was ready to break out on his own if thats what it took.
What he walks into however was the end of his family’s business entirely, that is, unless he takes a deal and agrees to a one year internship with the beautiful, mysterious, and commandeering stranger.
The writing was descriptive and entertaining, and audio narration of the audible book was brilliant! The narrator never missed a beat and never dropped the various accents of each character.
I love the white tiger on the cover. The model doesn’t reflect the description of either main character which is sad. The storyline was enjoyable and I found the characters relatable. Being the first in the series it will be interesting to see what happens next.
