In this enemies-to-lovers regency romance by USA Today bestselling and HOLT Medallion winning author Bree Wolf, a bankrupt duke and a merchant’s daughter realise how inconvenient a marriage of convenience can be when love is added to the mix.England 1805: EDMOND DUNSWORTH, DUKE OF CROMWELL, needs a wife. He doesn’t want one, but he needs one. Or rather her dowry. With his finances dwindling by … dowry.
With his finances dwindling by the day, he has no time spending months courting an heiress. So Edmond agrees when his steward suggests he marry the daughter of a wealthy merchant, who seeks to align himself with titled families.
Relying on his dashing good looks and rakish charm, Edmond expects nothing less but for his future wife to swoon into his arms. However, ANNA HANFORD couldn’t be more displeased with her father’s choice.
Fiercely independent and utterly furious, Anna is far from impressed by Edmond’s standing and title and even less so by his infuriatingly handsome face. Instead, she is determined to fight him every step of the way and prove to him – as well as herself – that she is a far cry from the simpering, mindless ninny he must think her to be!
A battle of wills ensues, and although exasperated with his new wife at first, Edmond soon learns that fighting with Anna can be utterly pleasurable – if done right!
Will they cease fire long enough to realise that hatred has turned to passion? Can Edmond convince Anna that there is more to him than meets the eye?

I did not like either main character. They were both immature. The plot twist was interesting. I would not read another book in this series.
fun to read, kept me wondering what next.
I raised my rating to 3 because the author is talented, but based on the h/H it would be zero stars if possible.
The h holds onto to her anger through over 70% of the story. She acts like a spoiled brat. The H was somewhat more likable but I couldn’t get over he was a Duke. He wasn’t confident at all and kept running away because he didn’t know how to handle his wife.
There is a twist that helped the story. I really have enjoyed this series and they are stand alone. The h’s friend is another awful character and I will only read it if free. She is worse than the h in this story.
There is lovemaking within marriage and off page.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, epilogue one year in future and little on romance until about 80% or more. Can’t have romance when the h is having temper tantrums all the time. (ljb)
I hated Anna, that will be the gist of this review. Both her and Edmond are incredibly childish, but especially Anna. He’s constatly needling and harrasssing her to the point of a damn temper tantrum. And she never disappoints. A physically violent outburst on her part always follows. Or she’s needling and belittling him in the childish hope that he’ll give her a real reason to be angry with him or hate him. She’s so violent. And let us be frank, if the roles were reversed the behavior would in absolutely no way be accepted. She throws his gift in the fire, smashes his property, slaps him, slices his face purposefully with a foil, and pulls a dagger on him. And he just accepts it! Because oh, she’s just so passionate! Her behavior is completely unacceptable and she behaves like a petulant child the remainder of the time. This 100% starts out an abusive relationship. He tries to make things work, she allows him to a point and then she attacks, blaming him for some believed slight. And he always questions whether or not he may have done something to provoke her behavior. Horrible realtionship, wasn’t rooting for them to stay together. Didn’t care at all about Anna winding up happe in the end. I was invested in Edmond’s happiness, however, because I liked him from the first book. But he was portrayed in a completely different manner? And there was no explaination for his change in demeanor.
The book is well written, I really do enjoy her writing style, and Anna does improve for the last third of the book. But I was quite disappointed by this one. I will be contiuing on to the third in the series since I do like her writing style so much and I truly think it was just Anna that ruined this one for me. Hoping for the best from the next one!
Love all the books by Bree Wolf. Highly recommend all her books and can not wait for more from her!!
Fun clean romance
I have read the whole series. Would highly recommend!
Good book keeps you interested till the end.
Anna was a horrible le character. She was so set I her opinions and very naive. Edmund deserved a much better wife. As a read I deserved a book I could finish. Stopped reading half way.
Short review. This is a well written story that flowed from one page to the next, good chemistry between Anna and Edmond, I liked when they started fencing together every morning. For the first half of the book I didn’t like Anna and wanted someone to set her straight so that she could see that her friend was leading her down the path to having a unhappy marriage/life. But by the second half when she began to trust her own mind and feelings about her marriage she became likable, I admired Edmond for attempting to win her over even at times which he felt like giving up. The dowry plot point was easy to figure out but there was one plot point I didn’t see coming.
