“Karen Chance takes her place along with Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, MaryJanice Davidson, and J.D. Robb.”—SF RevuView our feature on Karen Chance’s Curse the Dawn. Cassandra Palmer may be the all-powerful Pythia now, but that doesn’t mean people have stopped trying to kill her. Most of the supernatural power players don’t want the independent minded Cassie as chief clairvoyant—and … independent minded Cassie as chief clairvoyant—and they’ll stop at nothing to see her six feet under.
The Vampire Senate does support Cassie in her position, but their protection comes with a price: an alliance with the sexy master vampire Mircea, who has claimed Cassie as his own.
But even the vampires will have trouble keeping Cassie alive now that the self-styled god Apollo, the source of the Pythia’s power, has it in for her in a big way. To save her life—and the world—Cassie’s going to have to face down her creator…

“4 out of 5 stars!! This one was a bit harder to imagine then the others, for me at least, mostly because of the happenings in the “ley lines.” I just couldn’t create what they would look like, I suppose. But…”

Non-stop thrill ride filled with laughs. Stayed up past my bedtime to finish because I can’t stop in the middle of craziness like this. Only drawback is that this book isn’t as cleanly edited as the first three, but still hugely entertaining.
What a whirlwind! This was a crazy adventure of Cassie fighting mages, demons, and gods, trying to rescue people, and save the world.
I think this one might be my new favorite in the series. There is a ton of action and you get to see some more of Mircea and a whole new side of Pritkin revealed. Dangerous happenings are occurring
and Cassie is dealing with figuring out her powers and letting her visions come to her.
Cassie attempts to meet the Lord Protector of the Silver Circle to call a truce, only a truce isn’t what they want…. it’s her head. Cassie struggles to fight the Silver Circle knowing that any damage that occurs would further her true opponent, Apollo’s plan to destroy all the mages.
Cassie flexes her power a little in this book and shows that despite her lack of training she is capable Pythia.
This book is my favorite so far. Cassie and Pritkin go on exciting adventures. This is a reread. I enjoy Cassie and Pritkin together so much. So many bossy men I’d go crazy. I love learning more about the characters. The first time I read the series I read only Cassies stories then Dorys story. So I was in the dark so much the first time around. Love love this series.
Curse the Dawn is the 4th Cassie Palmer book and the action has not slowed one bit. Cassie is still in desperate need of some training and the book opens with her trying to convince the former Pythia to help a girl out. Only she had to travel back in time a few centuries to ask and she didn’t exactly catch Agnes on a good day.
Apollo still wants to destroy the world and the Silver Circle still wants to destroy Cassie. Too bad they don’t realize they’re playing right into Apollo’s hand.
“It was obvious Marco wasn’t going to give up on his proposed slaughter without a damn good reason. So I gave him one, although he didn’t seem to understand my explanation about the vengeful god and the portal to another world and the ancient spell that the Circle supported that was the only thing keeping it closed. To give him credit, he did grasp the major point though.
‘You’re saying you got to keep alive the very people who want you dead?’
‘That’s what I’m saying.’
‘That sucks.’
‘Which will be the title of my autobiography, if I live long enough to write one.’”
Major things happen in this book that I won’t give away. But we get to meet some more war mages, that may or may not want Cassie dead. We get to see another part of Dante’s casino that is so much fun. We get to see the house Pritkin bought for his wife. And one of my favorite parts, we get to race/battle through the ley lines.
One of my favorite series, I can’t recommend these books highly enough. Ms Chance is an excellent writer. Her world is vivid and her characters feel real. Like you could go to Vegas and join the chaos that surrounds Cassie. Hmmm maybe I’ll do just that 🙂
Audiobook review: Curse the Dawn has Cassie faced with a troubling situation. This highly entertaining and action packed storyline will keep you interested and engaged in the story as it unfolds. There is kind of a romantic triangle going on, but yet not. My only gripe is that Cassie is just letting every thing happen to her instead of taking control, with the exception being the closing scene when she demands something from Mercha. The narrator did a fantastic job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene!
