Loved the unique worldbuilding in this fantastic fairy tale story. There were strong themes of recovery and redemption that really touched me, as well as characters I was rooting for all the way. I picked this story up without having read anything else in the series, and now I want to go back to the beginning just to explore this interesting world more.
Angela Ford has such a lovely writing style and she always builds the most beautiful worlds! This was a shorter novella, but it still felt complete. Talia was a complex, engaging heroine. I would love to see a longer story between her and Wilhelm, I loved the set up between them in this novella!
Curse of the Healer is a sweet Romantic Fantasy for adults. The story moves quickly with two wonderful characters, a cursed healer named Talia and a solitary woodcutter named Wilhelm. There’s a good balance between danger and romance. This story is easy to read and can stand alone, even though it is part of a series.
Her blessing became a curse, and with it she became pariah. The new Queen of the Wildwood is rumored to be unpredictable and young, but Talia is hardly living anymore, abandoned by all but a muscular woodcutter.
As with the first book in this series, it is a short read in a richly imagined world. It feels a little rushed or condensed in parts due to the length, but still provides a fully immersive experience. It has its dark moments, but doesn’t get quite as dark as book 1. Very much an adult fairy tale.
This is book 2 in Tales of the Enchanted Wildwood series. It takes place in the same world, slightly after the events of that book, but in a different village and can be enjoyed independently. Reading the first book will add to your understanding of the Queen though.
So the dark queen had been killed in the first novel and a new queen reigned over the wildwood now, however it seemed as though she could not really control the dark monsters from invading the villages outside the wood yet and one of the people who suffered the consequences was Talia. Talia was a great healer and the people of the community all looked up to her however on the night of mabon when the dark queen died she lost her magic and her healing turned to death instead. She was labelled a witch and a cursed one and became ostracised by the same community who had put their trust in her before, so Talia became depressed and started drinking heavily. The only person who still looked out for her was the woodcutter Wilhelm and it was he who saved her from her monstrous kidnappers on the verge of killing her during the Yule festivities, and who suggested they enter the wildwood and seek the help of the new queen to remove the curse Talia was under. I love the romance in the novel and the kindness which Wilhelm showed towards Talia when everyone else shunned her. I also love the courage Talia showed when she ventured on her own to save Wilhelm’s life. I really love these tales about the wildwood and am looking forward to the next story.
this story features a “disgraced” healer that starts out looking for the queen of the wildwood to reverse her healer abilities until the man she loves “falls” ill and she seeks to save him.
