Curse of Stone is Book 1 in the Academy of The Damned series. The world building is superb and the character development is excellent — the characters well thought out, likeable and interesting. The pace is steady (you don’t get bogged down) and the story line keeps you turning pages. Madison, MFC, is an untrained witch who accidently kills her boyfriend Beau while trying to save her best friend during a wind storm. This tragedy has Madison enrolling in La Voisin Academy for training so that she can learn to control her magic which she has been hiding as she does not want to hurt anyone else. On her first day at the academy she makes new friends and an enemy of the school’s bully who happens to be her roommate. Giselle is eventually murdered (even though her death is ruled an accident). Giselle’s ghost haunts Madison and wants her to solve the murder. Madison and her friends Jaxon, Krista and Ivy set out to solve the murder as well as what’s up with all the stone statues around the academy which seem to be alive. They also want to discover what secret project Giselle was working on. This is a first in a new series that is just amazing and sets the ground work for an excellent series which I highly recommend. Received a free copy from Booksprout and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I really liked Curse of Stone, and can’t wait for the next book in the series! Where to start? The MC, Madison, is a little outside the trope – instead of timid or shy, bullied, and no friends, Madison is a cheerleader, with the football boyfriend, has confidence and socializes normally, though she does have personal problems. Personality wise, I like that Madison is naive about her own heritage, but not so sheltered that she doesn’t have a clue. She’s very determined and doesn’t whine when things go wrong, yet she still has moments of doubt or insecurity like any other teenage girl. The secondary characters are well written, though somewhat vague at this time, which I imagine will work itself out over the series. We already get the chance to know Krista a little better, and Jaxon too, from one of their adventures. The story kept a good pace and while some questions were answered, others remained and/or came up. Very entertaining, and I can’t wait to see where book two takes them next.
Madison’s journey is filed with lots of tragedy, suspense amd magic. She is lucky to find some supportive friends at her new academy. This is a great beginning of series and I look forward to more
This academy story was interesting. There were so many parts that I really liked. Being able to travel through any mirror was one of the best. Madison’s growth in her powers and the relationship with her mom and her mom’s addiction. She is trying to solve the mystery of the statues, the murder, casting a special spell, all while trying to catch up on her regular classes. At least she’s made 3 friends at school. I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.
This is a fab witchy read that once you start you will not be able to put down! Fast paced this well written story is full of magic, mystery and mayhem and is just awesome! A great start to this witchy academy series and I cannot wait to read more!

A very well written book about a magical school and all the fun and angst of teenagers and what they get up to.
Madison wasn’t brought up among witches but she’s always known about them and her own powers. She’s fun, sassy, outspoken but very willing to learn.
The storyline is nonstop action and adventure with excitement spilling off the pages, I couldn’t turn them quick enough.
An enjoyable read with great characters

Book review of Curse of Stone (Academy of the Damned Book 1) by Veronica Shade, Leigh Anderson & Rebecca Hamilton …
I had never heard of this Series of books until I was asked to read them as an Advance reader copy with the hopes I would like it and review it.
Madison seems like the girl next door, small town cheerleader with a football player for a boyfriend. So in love with Beau that she is waiting for him to pick a College so she will know where to apply.
Then as often happens in Oklahoma, bad weather, a tornado hits.
She uses her gifts to protect her best friend but in doing so tragedy befalls Beau … can she survive this? How can she make sure this never happens again?
She goes to La Voisin, a school for witches to learn to harness her Gifts. She learns there is so much more to her than parlor tricks and minor abilities. She also gets what could be the worst roommate ever, best new friends ever and the worst situation ever all in the span of a few months!
How will this all turn out for Madison?
I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more books in this series… Madison really has her plate full from the get go… But she learns to handle is all like a champ and finally in the end she is finally getting some confidence in herself with the help from her new found friends… It should be a wild ride finding out what happens next with Madison…

Madison has started witch school much later than her peers and the only reason she goes is because of the accidental death of her boyfriend due to her lack of control. School isn’t exactly a picnic with the other pupils not being her biggest fans then of course when one of her classmates is murdered in a place where something like that should not be possible things get even more difficult for her, especially when it seems that solving the crime might be down to her and her friends. Wonderful characters and a well-crafted plot make this a wonderful start to a new series and I cannot wait to read more.

Madison Whittaker is a witch from a long line of witches, though the last 3 generations have been mortals rather than witches. Madison is in love with Beau. Veronique is her best friend. At the most recent football game a storm comes out of nowhere. A tornado moves toward the school so Madison uses her magic to shield her friend when a horrible accident happens
Madison is heartbroken so decides to go to La Voison, a school for witches, to learn how to control her powers. No sooner does she get there than things start to go wrong, beginning with her rooming with the school bully. Things start to go sideways fairly quickly.
This book is the first in a series. The foundation for the world and the school are well done. The main characters are well-developed rather than just cutouts standing in to move the story along.
Definitely can’t wait for the next in the series to come out.

This is a quick YA read when you want something that you can just enjoy. The characters are fun, the story line is different, and while it’s easy to see where the story is going, it’s entertaining. *Spoiler* The very beginning was hard, with her boyfriend dying. I know it is the catalyst for her attending the witch school, but wish there could have been a way without death. The ending leaves plenty of open issues for a second book to deal with.
