Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Holly Black, this enemies-to-lovers adventure romance should come with a book hangover warning. All magic has a price. Haven survived the Devourers, but she isn’t any closer to breaking the curse. Meanwhile, her forbidden magic rages brighter and more dangerous every day. To control her powers and stand a chance against the Shade Queen, Haven made a … powers and stand a chance against the Shade Queen, Haven made a bargain with two enemy immortals. Now her waking hours are spent fighting alongside the Sun Lord, but her dreams belong to the Shade Lord.
Only the closer she ventures into the wicked Shadow Kingdom the more her magic shows itself—and the more she struggles with whom to trust. The golden but wounded Sun Lord or the darkly charismatic Shade Lord.
Both are off-limits.
And both have the ability to save her . . . or destroy her.
With the Shade Queen closing in and Bell’s time nearly up, Haven will sacrifice everything to break the curse—but will it be enough to stop the mortal realm from falling into darkness forever?

If you like fierce heroines, enemies-to-lovers romance, wild plot twists, and endearing characters that stay with you long after you reach the end, you need to discover the book readers are calling dark fantasy at its best. Just make sure to clear out some space on your calendar first!
Curse Breaker was previously published in the boxed set Shattered Worlds. This is a revised second edition. The Kingdom of Runes series is upper/mature YA and contains mild cursing and adult situations, including romance.
“OMG I freaking love this story. Audrey’s writing is descriptive, captivating and hooks you in from the first moment on. It was an amazing story with absolutely great characters (loved the side characters as well). I cannot wait to read what else Audrey has in store for us.”

Amazing and couldn’t put down! I’m utterly enthralled with this series. This is book 2 in the Kingdom of Runes series by Audrey Grey. You definitely need to read book 1 to understand and enjoy as much as I did. Again I listened to the audible version beautifully narrated by Vanessa Moyen.
This picks up right where we left off in book 2. Haven and the Sun Lords friends are on a mission to break the curse and save Havens best friend Bell. They now know the items they need in order to break it and they are not going to be easy to get. Each item takes them into more danger than the last and you will be on the edge of your seat.
Thankfully Archeron is so much kinder in this book but who doesn’t love an enemies to lovers story. In saying that, I’m still holding out hope he will be a passing fancy on Havens way to my favourite Stolas the Shade Lord.
There are lots of twists and turns and heartwarming and heartbreaking moment’s. I enjoyed Bell chapters a lot more in this book and wow what happens to him filled me with so much joy to then so much sadness within just a moment.
I love the pick mix of characters, all lovable in their own beautiful way all except one and when you read you will see why.
If you love high fantasy romance with plenty of action you can’t miss this guys.
I’ve already purchased book 3 and can’t wait to start it and see where this is going. Lots was resolved here but I can see we are in for a wild ride with a newly introduced character at the end.
Top marks 5/5
I read book two so fast I almost disappointed myself that I finished it and am ready for book three.
Definitely some twists and surprises in this book.
Haven is wonderful in her almost ginger attitude, the stong headed stubborn and loyal woman with a fire so fierce you cannot but adore her.
The battle between Archeon and Haven leaves you thirsty for their journey.
I am grateful book two was already written because I would have cried if I had to wait after reading book one. You pick off right where you left off.
A few moments will bring you to tears while others, and believe me it happened, will have you surprised that did that just happen.
So worth it, a book I could read again.
Ready for three!!!!
Curse Breaker is another fun adventure in the Kingdom of Ruins series. It is much faster paced than book one and we do get to know the characters better. I liked the world building (the different lands), the creatures met along the way, the magic and the action within the story. There were a bunch of things that did not work for me as well as they should have, mostly in character development. Almost all the characters seemed fundamentally different from what I read in book one. There were also a few plot holes/graces within the story had they were counterintuitive to what I had learned in the first book. That said, I devoured this book in two days and look forward to the next in the series. These are very entertaining read if nothing else. 3.5 stars.
A wonderful sequel to the Kingdom of Runes series! It builds on the previous character relationships from the first book and expands them. There are moments that ripped my heart out and stomped on it, moments that made me cringe with embarrassment for Haven, intense betrayals, but we still find time to laugh in between! Couldn’t be more excited for book 3!
Wow… just wow
I read this second book late into the night to finish and all I want is more, more, more! Another stellar story from Audrey Grey, continuing from Oath Taker, we get to follow more of Haven’s adventure through the ruinlands. I can’t decide if I want things to work out with Stolas, the dark prince of the Netherworld or Archeron the Sun God in the long run, I enjoyed the slow burn love story underlying the adventure and the subtle romance both felt for Haven in different ways, even when they didn’t want to admit it.
I love the character development, you really get to know each character, how they think, what their motivations are and quickly take a liking to or a strong dislike of each one. Haven is one tough lady, dedicated to her friends and family and completing her mission to break the curse to set Prince Bellamy free. She keeps going against insurmountable odds and keeps having faith that she can work things out. I adore Archeron, Bjorn, Rook and Surai, their banter between each other, their loyalty to each other and their support of Haven once they welcome her into their band of misfits. I like watching Bellamy grown into the man Haven always saw him as, taking courage and fighting for what he knows is right.I detested Ravenna the Shade Queen and I hope to read more about her final comeuppance in future books.
I enjoyed the story changing perspective between characters to follow the story from Haven, Stolas, Bellamy and even her friend’s Surai perspective. I laughed and cried as I read. I was on the edge of my seat over and over as they fought to obtain each part of the curse price. I cheered when the curse was broken and felt heartbreak over the cost it took from each of them.
Lots of twists and turns keep you reading chapter after chapter, there is a surprise at the end that I totally didn’t see coming and I can’t wait to see in the next books how things play out. I enjoyed the subtle nods to other fairy tales, there was a bit of a gender-bender Beauty and the Beast with Bellamy and the creature in the castle and hits of other tales where lovers Surai and Rook are cursed to be in opposite forms with only a little time to be together at sunrise and sunset.
Lots of adventure, romance, humor and emotion make this a delightful second book. I highly recommend to older teens given the level of violence makes it not quite fit for younger kids. I received an ARC for my honest opinion and this was an easy one to provide. Totally loved it and can’t wait for the next one coming soon.
Haven is headstrong and brave. She makes mistakes and pushes through them. She finds love in the strangest of places and changes the hearts of those around her. It was an amazing and exciting story, and I can’t wait to see where the author takes us next.
The sacrifices the characters made to break the curse are phenomenal, and the love they have for each other is deep and far-reaching. There isn’t one character that gets out of this adventure unscathed. The story is both heartbreaking and healing.
This book is the second in the series. It truly does serve to develop characters more fully from their introduction in the first book. It is interesting to see how the characters all become even more complex and the stand they take alters just a bit for some of them. There are plenty of surprises when it comes to the choices they make in this book. I enjoyed all aspects of this book and honestly would not change a thing. I continue to say it, but this book really is a complex new world with real depth. I really enjoyed how this book helps to delve further into this unknown world while also showing how the characters alter their actions based on developments between one another. I could have benefited from more detail on the queen, but perhaps that is still to come. Also, could some overzealous fan create a mapping of the characters and their relation to one another? Quite well. There are times when reading a series it becomes a concern how the author will develop the story, characters, and the timeline. However, this harrowing tale of a group of heroes with one main goal in mind is so exciting. It is so interesting to have the backstories of each character slowly revealed to allow readers to develop deep emotions for the characters. It is also fun to not stay in one area, but to move across the map of the lands for even more intense detail. I am most attracted to the type of story this book tells. I truly love stories with magical exploration and a bit of romance. I love having several different heroes who prove themselves throughout the book and others who fall from grace. I don’t want to give away too much of the book, but I really loved the book. I read this book in one sitting and it was a real page-turner. This book is extremely pleasing in regard to aesthetics, style, tone, and semantics. There are no evident flaws to distract me as a reader and the book has a wonderful flow in the plot line with clear subplots that are continued throughout the books. Audrey Grey is an excellent writer and storyteller. She has created an excellent story with unmatched complexity for readers. This series is so flipping amazing and I honestly think everyone should give it a read. With wonderful writing, complex story and characters, and an amazing mapped new world, where could anyone go wrong by picking this book up for a read? Readers just need to keep in mind that this book does have some minor language and sexual content concerns for younger readers. Otherwise, I really think this book has it all adventure, love, and imperfection. How could it be any more perfect?
I can not wait for book 3!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is packed with great characters, adventures a plenty and curious fantasy plots galore. If you enjoy adventure books that contain a bit of slow burn romance as well, then you will enjoy reading this book. I recommend starting this series with the first book, Oath Taker.
OMG this second book was even better then the first! A fab adventure with a slow burn romance , character development, magic, humour, heartbreak, loss and betrayal and once I started reading I was just hooked and could not put it down not even for the tissues! Can’t wait to read more!
I finished and I’m still battling a hurricane of emotions! What an epic story from beginning to end. I was eager to return to these characters and the beautiful, burdened, complex world Grey created. The romance, adventure, and tension didn’t disappoint, although the anticipation nearly killed me. I fell in love, lost my heart to anguish, and nearly cried but I loved it. The ending was satisfying despite me not being ready to say goodbye to the characters. The next book can’t get here fast enough!
