Ruby Gentile made it out of the foster care system by keeping to herself and counting down the days until she was on her own. She considers herself a successful realtor now and loves that she is doing her part to put people in their forever home. Commitment issues often remind her she may never find what she always wanted as a little girl even if she secretly dreams of love and romance, happy … ever after and prince charming…that forever home of her own.
Josh Turner lived through the horrific murder of his parents while he hid in the closet as a young child. He’s an investigator now sworn to protect, but those he loved…he couldn’t bear the thought of life without them. He’d lay his life on the line and make sure they never felt as scared and lonely as he had that one night. When Ruby ends up as his realtor, he realizes that she is the one he never wants to lose, if only she’d let him in.

A great story about two people who have been through hell and come together to try and make a life together. Her through foster care and him hiding in the closet when his parents were murdered. Her a realtor and he an investigator. Weird combo hmn. We’ll see.
This book’s storyline was okay. Ruby’s character was okay. Josh’s character is okay. The ending was okay.
A beautiful story of two people with sand and tragic childhoods who come together and fall in love despite their baggage and backgrounds. The characters are well developed, the story is realistic and inspirational. A good read.
I like that it was a series that brought in future book characters
A great story about two people who have been through hell and come together to try and make a life together. Her through foster care and him hiding in the closet when his parents were murdered. Her a realtor and he an investigator. Weird combo hmn. We’ll see.
Ruby put up walls as someone who had a drug addicted prostitute mother and grew up in foster care after her death would do. Josh went through trauma too, hearing his parents being murdered. But he had the loving support of his grandparents after their death. The attraction between them happens immediate and their relationship moves along quickly. He is unhappy when she doesn’t say I love you back right away and want to move in with him even though he knows she’s has trouble trusting and had to learn to be self sufficient. I loved his grandmother who hugs everyone and sends him home with a freezer full of meals. I thought the themed bears he gave Ruby were cute, especially since she didn’t get very much as a child. The house he bought sounds wonderful. I wish I was handy enough to buy a great fixer upper and make it what I wanted.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is the love story of two damaged people who find each other and fall in love.
Both Ruby Gentile and Josh Turner had difficult childhoods. Ruby’s mother was a drug addict who died when Ruby was very young. She spent the majority of her childhood in and out of foster care. Ruby is now an up-and-coming realtor.
When Josh was young, his parents were murdered during a home robbery. His grandparents raised him. He is now a police investigator who has just moved into town to be near his grandparents.
Josh meets Ruby when he calls her about one of her listings. They are instantly attracted to each other. Unfortunately Ruby’s commitment issues and her need to be independent make it very difficult. As they search together to find a home for him, Ruby and Josh slowly fall in love.
I love Ruby’s character. She is an independent woman who is determined to overcome her difficult childhood. Therefore, she spends most of her time working and spends the rest of her time alone.
Josh is the kind of man that most women love to be with. He is kind and understanding of Ruby’s issues. He is determined to give her the things she missed as a foster child.
As both Ruby and Josh try to overcome the effects of their difficult childhood, I became entirely absorbed into their lives. It is not easy for them, but the more time they spend together and the more difficulties they encounter, the more captivated I became by these two people who are so obviously soul mates.
