Another fun easy read from Jane Hinchey.
Kristina, master dessert maker has baked a batch of cupcakes for an informal soiree hosted by Katherine Quinn for her son Wes. As requested she has imbued the cupcakes with a little spell of love and acceptance. So when Ted McNeil, Wes’ best friend chokes to death on eating one of the cupcakes Kristina is horrified. Then when the seriously hunky Watcher Ben Hoffman from the Council turns up on her doorstep and announces that Ted was poisoned Kristina is faced both with being a suspect in a murder she didn’t commit and watching her business disappear as clients start cancelling their orders. Can Kristina use her amateur sleuthing skills to discover the murderer, before her business is irrevocably damaged? and is it okay that she is falling head over heels in love with the Watcher sent to investigate her and the crime?

Cupcakes and Curses by Jane Hinchey
I Love Paranormal mysteries very much when I have found a new great cozy series is icing on the cupcake for this reader. This is a very fast-paced paranormal short story about Kristina Gates and her magical coffee shop that is a fun read. Kristina had been invited to cater the desserts for a soiree for Ms. Quinn’s son, Wes, when a murder happened with one of her magical cupcakes. She meets a very good looking Watcher Ben Hoffman who had questions regarding the murder that involved her desserts and her love life. Kristina and Ben raced against the clock to solve a murder and to save her dessert business from ruin in this fun romp.
The characters of Kristina, Paige, and Ben are quirky and oh, so much fun to read about. Kristina is bold and resorts to some outlandish schemes that somehow work in her favor in this latest escapade. This is a wonderful introduction to this relaunched paranormal series. I cannot wait to see how the Kristina and Ben will develop their romantic relationship along with their paranormal abilities. The storyline is fast paced from the beginning to the very ending. This mystery has a very satisfying ending that is very twisty with a fabulous conclusion for both paranormal cozy mystery fans.
The drawback is the lack of a brief introduction of Kristina Gates and her world that would help this reader to get to know her better. I would love to see a sentence describing Kristina and her bakery along with her friends so I could get into the storyline. The romance of Kristina and Ben went a little too fast for me as well, no long term build up between Kristina and Ben that is critical in a long arc storyline . The profanity is a wee bit strong in this mystery, a side note for those who are invective sensitive in regards their reading material.
This is a very quick and fun read for paranormal mystery readers who likes a romance theme in their books. I did enjoy these paranormal characters and their antics so much that I will read another book from this series.
This was a fun easy read. I love the way the mystery plays out and keep you guessing. Come along for the ride.
That was a cute story. Bad death and all the other problems but still cute. I liked it to. Kristina gets the cute cop or Watcher. Will he be in the next story also?
Can Kristina, with the help of handsome, sexy, Watcher, Ben Hoffman catch a killer before her business is completely ruined? A great read. The plot was good, and the characters are extremely likable. A definite read for paranormal cozy lovers!
Someone poisons one of Kristina’s cupcakes, causing the death of an important man in town. With her business at stake, she can’t help but put her amateur sleuth abilities to work, meeting handsome Watcher Ben Hoffman in the process. Mystery, suspense, romance all combine in this story – an entertaining read. The ending was a bit confusing to me, so I had to go back and re-read it when it then made sense.
This was a quick read and very entertaining. The characters were likable and the differences in the different types was interesting. I’m not big on paranormal but this was good.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I love Jane Hinchey’s books. Always so fun and filled with great characters. I’d forgotten I had read this one before, but I enjoyed reading it for a second time. The twists to the murder were awesome
This book held me captive for the couple of hours it took to read. There is something about a witch that bakes in a story that l find l just have to read. This lived up to my expectations and l recommend it to anyone of any age that likes cozy mysteries and paranormals.
Shadow Shifter #1 – I had to reread this lovely book since my first review was lost when the boxed set was removed from Amazon. Jane never disappoints. Her books are well written, suspenseful and humorous; with well thought out characters that steadily evolve, especially in her series sets; and her plots are intriguing and twisting. You’re never let down with a mediocre book. Shadow Shifter is another success with two main characters that keep the pages full of sexual tension. The other characters are interesting in their own right. The intriguing plot keeps the reader glued to the pages; a pretty good mystery. It will be interesting to see the next book in this series.
Secret Fates #2 – A well written, intriguing suspense with a touch of romance, main characters that are well developed and likable with an interesting plot. It was difficult to put the book down. It’s a standalone, but it leaves open a possible series. Included is an overview, which I appreciate knowing what the book contains.
Under A Darkened Moon #3 – Good to see Georgia and Zak again, if only briefly. A well written, intriguing story, which keeps the reader immersed in the pages. The characters are interesting with realistic dialog. The Alpha wolf is from The Awakening Series, which is a fun, exciting, riveting series. The well thought out plot is trademark of Ms. Hinchey as she is a good storyteller. If you want to know more about Rhys, read The Awakening trilogy; you’ll enjoy the books immensely.
Immortal Ties #4 – What a story, with lots of humor and sass, too! A well written romance and police story set with humans and paranormals. Interesting characters, believable dialog and a plot that mesmerizes the reader until the last page. The suspense is thick with both the possible romance and the crimes. Another fabulous book from a pretty good author; seldom does one of her books disappoint the reader. Has an overview of the story, which I appreciate knowing what the book is about before I read it. I volunteered to read this author’s work.
This book is a quick, entertaining, murder mystery involving humans, witches, fae, shifters, nephilim, magic and mayhem. It was definitely worth reading, though it is a tad steamy and I was confused by the “children’s book” tag. Either way, it had the twists and turns of a master magician masquerading as a mystery/romance writer! Kudos!
I got this book in the Midnight Magic boxset! Kristina is a headstrong and quirky character. She uses her intelligence figure out that she can infuse magic into her baked goods she sells at her bakery. Filled with twist and turns dealing with magic, fae and witches you will never get bored.
