SEXY, SUSPENSEFUL, AND OH SO HOT!!!
Title: Cuffing Her: A Small Town Cop Romance
Author: Emily Bishop
Designation: Contemporary Romance with Suspense, Standalone, HEA, Short Novel
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Four Super Sexy Stars****
**This story ended at the 21% location on my Kindle and felt more like a long novella rather than a full-length novel. There were no pages numbers and the line/paragraph spacing was extremely generous. The author did include several bonus stories which I also found quite entertaining.
Somebody call 911 cause this book was on fire! And sexy Sheriff Ben Warburton made me swoon! OMG! This man was so hot! This may have been my first time reading the work of Emily Bishop, but it certainly won’t be my last! I’m officially a fan! Cuffing Her is a riveting, fast-paced, well-crafted, easy to follow contemporary romance filled to the brim with pulse-pounding danger, heartbreaking drama, spine-tingling suspense, engaging characters, laugh-out-loud humor, instant attraction, steamy passion, and heartwarming romance! The narrative is beautifully written in the first person with clearly defined his and her perspectives. The dialogue was smart, snappy, gritty, natural, and flowed effortlessly. I will warn you, both protagonists knew exactly what they wanted and didn’t mince words to get it, which brings me to the stars of this sexy, enemies to lovers trope. I was immediately smitten with handsome, traumatized, ex-special forces veteran Ben Warburton, now the newly elected Sheriff of Stoneport. If there was ever a perfect book boyfriend, Ben Warburton was it! I’m almost 70 and many years past getting hot and bothered over a much younger man, but I had to stop several times to fan myself, and I’m not even joking! And lovely new restaurant owner Naomi Greeves just couldn’t catch a break. Trouble was drawn to her like bees to honey. And speaking of honey, Naomi was a real sweetie, but she was also hardworking, independent, determined, stubborn, feisty, and a real firecracker with a sassy mouth. She didn’t take crap from anyone and trusted no one, not even the town Sheriff. And when these two unlikely lovers ‘officially’ met, it was lust at first sight! They may not have trusted each other, but that certainly didn’t stop either from appreciating the other’s assets. Ben and Naomi were both flawed, complex characters with complicated pasts, but they complemented each other perfectly. Bishop skillfully combined all these elements to craft a captivating, contemporary enemies to lovers romance.
When new restaurant owner Naomi Greeves trespassed onto a docked luxury yacht and stumbled into the middle of a crime, literally, it almost results in her death. She only wanted to snap a few pictures. Obviously, the thief stealing the yacht wasn’t impressed with her excuse, and neither was the handsome cop when he fished her out of the marina.
Sheriff Ben Warburton didn’t know what to make of the beautiful, feisty young woman he hauled from the water at the scene of a crime. He can’t decide whether he should frisk her or kiss her, or maybe both after he cuffs her to his bed – if he can keep her alive! Oh my! Ben already has enough on his plate trying to solve this case and keep his town safe. He can’t afford any complications or distractions. His brain may be telling him one thing but other parts of his anatomy strongly disagree. What’s a dedicated officer of the law to do? We’ll see!
Did I like this story? Yes, very much! I’m not a writer nor a professional reviewer, but I felt the story was just a wee bit predictable. I figured out very early in the story who was doing what and to whom, but I was still glued to my seat, white knuckling my ereader and sweating bullets, while my heart fluttered wildly in my chest. No way was I gonna put this book down and miss all the sexy times, which brings me to another point. This is not erotica but it is erotic, so readers beware. The sex scenes are hot, explicit, bountiful, and so dreamy! *sigh* I may be an old bird but I can still enjoy panty-melting sex scenes. There was a glaring, unresolved plot thread that completely baffled me. In Chapter 6, Naomi’s only waitress Katie is mentioned by Ben’s deputy, James, but their relationship, or lack thereof, is never made clear. In fact, Ben doesn’t question Katie’s identity in the conversation, almost as if he knows her, and wonders to himself if Katie and James are having a relationship, yet Katie never mentions knowing Ben or James, and there were no scenes with any interaction between Katie and James. It was just a little puzzling but maybe I missed something. Also, I was never able to find the original name of Naomi’s restaurant, other than Naomi’s place, which I don’t think was actually the name. This restaurant was Naomi’s entire life, the dream she’d worked so hard for, and was a very important part of the story. I found it a little disappointing that the author didn’t give it a name but again, maybe I just missed it. I did find the new name at the end of the story which I thought was quite appropriate. Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
