From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new standalone in her Everyday Heroes world that proves true love will always stand the test of time. “I hate you. I never want to see you again.”Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a … third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.
Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past.
But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it.
What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?

I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves.
That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up.
Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.
I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

It was a very good book but abuse is involved so I was cautious but Im glad I decided to read to read it anyway, its very realistic.
Fun read. Liked it so much, I immediately bought the second in the series and read it.
Cuffed is about everyday hero Officer Grant Malone and adrenaline jumper Emerson. Before he became a cop he was childhood best friends with Emmy. They lived next to each other in Sunnyville. It’s been twenty years since he’s seen her, after he broke a pinky promise.
After leaving Sunnyville Emerson moved around never planting roots in any one place. Emerson holds a grudge against Grant for breaking that promise. Being back in Sunnyville seeing him brings back memories she’d like to leave in the past.
Grant remained in Sunnyville with his brothers and parents building a life as a cop. He thrives off of protecting the people in his community.
They chase the moments while burying the past making the moments matter. Grant battles with his hero complex while Emerson battles with her trust issues.
The idea of a character holding a twenty year grudge didn’t win me over. In fact, K. Bromberg dangled this resentment for a good portion of the book. I dreaded reading this book from the moment I began reading.
I’ve read the Driven series by K. Bromberg years ago and it seems since those books I’ve measured everything released since then to those books. The writing style in the Driven series was by far her best work. All these other books have been mediocre. I can’t seem to connect with any of the characters or find any attachment with them. Nothing holds my interest. Nothing stands out as original or unique with these other books. I couldn’t even tell you who the characters are in any one of her books except Colton Donovan.
I’m extremely disappointed that a name like K. Bromberg who is a bestselling author no longer writes in a way that drives the storyline or the characters to the finish line.
Cuffed does have a jaw dropping good cover. It’s a show stopper. Although I expected something more sinister with this sexy cop on the cover. K. Bromberg use to have me one-clicking any new release it seems recently I’ve been reluctant to buy any books after the Driven series.
Cuffed is a sexy contemporary romance with a tragic childhood past woven into Emerson’s life. There were a few moments about Emerson that touched me I just wish the moment held on longer. It seemed unresolved.
The story is so gritty and real, that I found myself crying and laughing through this story. The storyline is emotional and heartbreaking. There is such a strong connection between Emerson and Grant and the book is so well written I couldn’t put it down.
When you begin this book, you think you are getting a hot cop romance. I mean I dated a police officer and it was hot, so I was here for it. Let me tell you, you get a lot more with this story. It is not solely a story about a boy who loves a girl from the time they were kids. Grant has always loved Emmy but she left as a child under tragic circumstances. This in turn has affected them both so much as adults, but as we all know our child traumas often has far reaching consequences.
Theirs is a bit of a messy love story, where they zig and zag and crash into each other. Sometimes the sparks fly and sometimes tears fall. I can speak from personal experience that what Emmy survived stays with you always, impacting your life in small and big ways long into the future. K. Bromberg portrayed that trauma with both great sensitivity and accuracy. I also appreciated the care she gave to how those events affected BOTH characters. Grant did not escape unscathed either and it drives his actions almost as much as it does Emmy. K. Bromberg will pull at your heartstrings with this one. It is sweet, sad, and hot at times too. The last little bit really pulls at your heartstrings but it definitely won’t leave you in a readers funk afterwards.
I listened to this title and Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell deliver an emotional performance with great respect to the story and subject matter. Joe gives a strong performance to his character (and as Emmy as well) when they were children. This is not growly dominant Joe, but more of a sweet and kind Joe. Both their performances brought depth and life to 2 very complex characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the listen.
I started this and didn’t put this down until I was done. Even though it’s a full length novel and seems long at first (I look at the number of chapters), it moves quickly and doesn’t drag. I found myself transfixed on Grant and Emerson. From the Prologue I was on edge and didn’t know what to think.
There are some triggers however. It’s the type that had me gasping and wide-eyed and then, when some of the details are revealed, my hand flew to my mouth and I couldn’t stop staring. It hit somewhat close to home and my hands were sweating and my heart was beating a million miles an hour.
All throughout the book there are references but when it’s finally explained it’s not what I was expecting. Seeing it in writing makes it all the more real and I could feel what Emmy and Grant were feeling and how confusing it was for them at that age. Be warned.
The story is so well written though, it didn’t feel as though I wanted to stop reading but I did have to prepare myself mentally for the more gritty details. I love that it doesn’t go into too much detail but enough that you could picture it in your head and you can relate to the characters.
“We forget the memories and just chase the moments.”
This about sums about what Grant and Em finally decide on as they move on from the past. Their moments together had me smiling and blushing. The story is not all serious and has some seriously steamy scenes that I could not put down.
This was one amazing second chance romance that I would read again and again.
Head Up. Wings Out.
This motto is sticking with me.
K. Bromberg knows how to write an amazing book that just pulls at your heart strings.
Grant is a police officer working his way toward becoming a detective.
Emmy is a sky diving instructor who moved back to her hometown after being away for years.
The last time they saw each other was after Grant told the teacher about the abuse Emmy was suffering from. Now decades later they meet at a party and the memories flood back.
Emmy fights her attraction to Grant through out the book and has a history of running when things get too close but Grant isn’t letting her go. Even if he has to handcuff her….
This book hits you in the feels when Grant gets attached to an abused little girl and even goes so far as to put his job on the line to save her. Emmy works through her own battles and learns that with the right group surrounding her she is able to overcome anything.
Head up. Wings out.
Grant Malone is serious book boyfriend material. Protective, sexy and charming.
This was the second time I read this book but it gave me all the feels it did the first time. To me that is a sign of a great book. I just wanted to pull Emerson in my arms and hug her.
It also gave me the feeling of crossing off skydiving from my bucket list – yep I can say I figuratively did it.
Wow!!! This book will get to every person. I’m not a big crier, but this book did me in.
Such great writing, such amazing characters. Grant and Emerson are a couple that you root for, laugh with, cry with, and even identify with.
K. Bromberg wrote from a very personal experience (she had a similar experience as the character Grant) and she scripted the horrific and awful moments and story perfectly. I can’t say enough about how touching and moving this book is.
Read it with a box of tissues and enjoy the HEA you journey to.
I love this book! Great characters backed by real emotions. Read it in two nights!
Love small town romance. Loved Grant and Emerson’s story!
Grant Malone and Emmy Reeves were best friends until Emmy disappeared without a word to Grant. Now twenty years later and Emmy is back in her hometown with more scars than anyone can imagine. When Grant and Emmy see each other again major sparks fly between the two long lost friends and you get a seriously hot second chance romance with some great supporting characters.

Review:
I expected more from this book. I honestly don’t think I’ve met someone with more patience than Grant. My god, how did he do it? How did he continue to put up with Emmy’s behavior and antics. I would have said bye falicia a long time ago. She really got on my nerves. The hardest thing being that I do get that something terrible happened to her, that makes me understand her behavior but to hold something over someones head when they where a child, to behave like you are doing, that isn’t oke. The disrespect she showed towards a police officer was a bit appealing. A tad funny but she got lucky.
What is this book about:
This book is about childhood friends Grant and Emmy. They where each others best friends but due to Grant telling an adult about a ‘secret’ Emmy told him they had a falling out. Keep in mind he was 6 at the time and the secret wasn’t something any child should have to deal with. Anyhow due to Grant telling someone, Emmy moved away. They hadn’t seen each other for years. By chance they meet again but Emmy is determined to keep Grant away. She still blames him for what happened when they where children and therefor doesn’t trust him.
Grant however is determined to keep Emmy in his live this time, he isn’t about to let her slip away. No matter how difficult Emmy makes it for him. Can Grants patience outlast Emmy’s gipsy’s need to keep moving and running away from her past? The attraction is there between them and sparks soon fly but will the heat be something either can handle or will someone ultimately get burned.
What did I like about this book:
I liked Grant, he was a great guy and like I said above had the patience of a saint. I also did like Emmy but she at the same time annoyed me to much to love her.
It’s amazing how well the author works in real live trauma and how people handle it. How Emmy acted was realistic, it’s how some people deal with their trauma. Because of that I did understand her behavior and caused me not to hate her.
On some level I can relate with Emmy, I to keep people away and not let them get near me, so having to see that on every page is probably also part of the reason why it got on my nerves so much.
Overall I did enjoy reading this book. There were some predictable moments but that didn’t ruin the story for me or anything.

4 I liked it stars
Hero fans, get ready to fall in love. Grant is a police officer who is passionate about his job. He really cares about helping people. And it all goes back to the one person he couldn’t help as a child, his best friend Emerson. She told him a secret and he broke his promise and told. But his betrayal saved her life. He hadn’t seen her since that day in elementary school but now she is back in town. They are grown up and those feelings of friendship have grown to be so much more. Don’t think that Emerson is just going to jump into his arms (like most women do) and admire the hero that he is. She is stubborn and doesn’t need anyone (she thinks). Grant is a reminder of a past she has been trying to forget. But what she might actually need to do is to remember to heal. This push and pull, friends to lovers story touches the heart. Readers will feel for Emerson and Grant. I know I was rooting for them to work on their issues. Warning, this does have a theme of healing from sexual abuse so if that’s a trigger it might be a hard read. But trust me it’s a story that needs to be read. K Bromberg does an amazing job telling a story of healing, forgiveness, strength and dealing with life that isn’t so perfect. Don’t worry romance fans, Bromberg’s steamy romance that she is know for is in there too. I can’t scream this loud enough for you to read this book.
I just gonna say cuff me.

Cuffed was the first book in the Everyday Heroes series by K Bromberg. I’ve always enjoyed Bromberg’s books and Cuffed was no exception.
Grant Malone and Emmy Reeves were childhood best friends until she abruptly moved away at age eight with the parting words “I hate you. I never want to see you again.” Fast forward 20 years and Emmy had moved back to Sunnyville and crossed paths with Grant, who was now a local cop.
I really enjoyed the characters as well as the writing. Bromberg depicted an emotional and heartbreaking story. She meshed humor and sexy into it for a balance, but it was still an emotional roller coaster at times. Additionally, there were a few slow parts and at times Emmy was maddening, but based on her childhood, her actions were believable. I liked how Grant ultimately pushed her through the past to the present and future.
I also liked the other secondary stories – the loan process and Grant’s case; however, I would have preferred more resolution on both. As to the secondary cast of characters- they were awesome. Both Desi and the Malone brothers provided much needed comic relief and I look forward to seeing more in the future.
In the end, I’m a fan of the series. I read out of order, so I’ve already read Grady’s story in Combust, and I’m now ready for Grayson in Worth the Risk. Bring it on!
Loved this story!
K. Bromberg drew me right away with a twisted plot that she unwinds one knot at a time. You heart will break for Emerson whose strength overcomes abuse and betrayal. You will root for Grant who is a true hero! This book will make you a fan who craves more Bromberg novels.
Was a little Too sad and tragic for my taste. There was a happy ending but just too much negativity in the heroine.

Wow, I loved this book again and again, although it broke my heart. It’s very moving and tells the story of Officer Grant Malone and his best childhood friend, Emerson Reeves, who returns to their hometown after 20 years. Emerson keeps many secrets from his childhood, the biggest one her fear of trusting anyone. Grant wants to build on their friendship but Emerson tries to keep herself safe by following her rigid rules.
The chemistry between Grant and Emerson is undeniable and electric. The connection they share is still there even after all these years and is just as strong. Grant lost it once and agrees not to lose his second chance.
Now for those of you who have read the story, I must tell you that I do not usually read the author’s notes at the end of the book, but I don’t know why it caught my attention. She tells how the authors use events that have happened in real life and modify them to fit a story to get the emotion across to the reader, to have actually walked in the shoes of your characters. From there, the author takes the situation and builds on it by adding fiction to complete the story. In this story K. Bromberg when she was in elementary school, she knew an Emerson, whom she calls Olive. And she was the Grant. She also tells, as Grant did, to tell a grown-up and the same words that Olive told her. K. Bromberg hasn’t seen Olive yet, but she hopes that she has found happiness.
Honestly, that was a hard part that broke my heart, read it in a book is one way but knowing that someone suffers and that the author has experienced this situation is hard. I hope and wish that all Olive or Emerson who have suffered are happy and have found peace within.
