Welcome to CrystalWing Academy, where the magical Elite reign…and Outlings are an endangered species.Magic doesn’t exist in the human world. As far as I know. But when I fling a fireball at a bully, my horrified Mom dumps me at CrystalWing Academy, a place straight out of my favorite fantasy books. They tell me I’m an Outling, a wizard born from non-magical parents. Mom’s human. Dad? I don’t … Mom’s human. Dad? I don’t exactly know who he is….
One thing I do know is I’m not an Elite–descendants of the original six families who split from the Fae ages ago. At seventeen, their children and despised Outlings like me attend the Academy to learn to control our power.
I’m barely on campus when I’m targeted by a mean girl. Figures. Thankfully, the Academy’s not all bad. My pixie roommate’s awesome. I score a coveted moonstone during Stone Selection. And let’s not forget Donovan, a hot guy who seems to like me, not the mean Elite girl who’s determined to win him.
Except something’s luring students into the forest and draining their power, leaving only shriveled husks behind.
The Headmistress warns me not to investigate, but the killer’s after my friends. Big mistake there. My magical skills may be untrained and wild, but if a power-sucking vamp thinks he can harm people I care about, he’s about to discover I’m a wizard unlike any other.
An exciting new world for Potter fans, filled with magic, suspense, a badass heroine, and flirty romance.
Outling is the first book in the young adult CrystalWing Academy series. Books two and three will be released this fall. This book is 71,000 words.

For Fleur it was just another day at school being bullied, until her magic inside took over. Soon after her mother takes her and leaves her at Crystal Wing Academy. She’s told she’s an outling, a child born of human parents she must learn from the ground up on how to harness her magic. Looking forward to whats next in this series.

Wow, really loved this book. I fell even teens and young adults would really like reading this book. We have mystery, suspense, and more. Even the bully isn’t much of a bully. Fleur is a outling that does not know who her father is. Her mother does not know what to do with her so drops her off at CrystalWing Academy. She is only 10 and can not start until she turns 17. She is shipped off to live with a person who is down right mean. What will she do when she gets to go to the Academy? What will she do when she finds out what she can do? What about the bully that likes the guy she likes? Can she help the others at the Academy? Will she get kicked out? Who is hunting the kids? There is so much going on I hate to even give more information to ruin the story for you. A must read book.

Fleur is dropped off by her mother at this school. She finds out the hard way that she is an outing, which is a wizard born from non-magical parents. Her mother is human so it has to be her father that has magic in him but she doesnt know him to find out. I enjoyed this book so much that I cant wait until books two and three are released.

A great first in a new series.
This is the first book I’ve ever read of author Marty Mayberry and I loved it. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and it is a joy to have another excellent academy series to enjoy.
Fleur is considered to be an Outling, a wizard born from non-magical parents and is looked down upon by the Elite at the Academy. With a pixie bestie and a hot boyfriend, Fleur takes on the mystery of a killer in the forest. This story is well written with lots of descriptive narratives, humour, magic, suspense, and a sweet romance.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Super read
“Crystal Wing Academy” is one of those tales that pulls at your emotions within the first pages. Fleur is a character to be reckoned with, her strength in the face of the unknown, her witty attitude, her guilt all combine to make her a strong main character and one I enjoyed reading. The academy with its secrets, magic, and drama, adds spice to the story. This is a well thought out storyline that immerses you in the magic and holds on to you until the end. The author sets the tone for this story while adding just enough backstory to understand the emotions of the main character. Fleur is a well-developed character with room to grow. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this author. I highly recommend this book.

This is the first book I’ve ever read of author Marty Mayberry. I am so glad that I got a chance to read this book because it grabbed my attention from the beginning. Fleur is a character that you root for to make it through all she goes through. From a young child, through to her teen years, she has to deal with many ups and downs, but they only serve to make her stronger. By the time she is old enough to attend the Academy, her inner strength is developed enough to face almost anything. She has a curiosity about all things regarding the Academy and magic even though she has not believed that magic is real. Something or someone at the school doesn’t really want her around, but she is determined to stay and learn all she can in two years. The elite students look down on her because she is considered and outling, but she is no normal outling. It’s a good thing she isn’t normal or the school might really be in trouble. Fleur is curious enough to investigate what is really going on around the school even when it puts her life in danger. She meets fellow classmates and has a conflict with one in particular over a boy. All these interactions are new for her, since she has been kept protected since she was brought to the academy way to early to join. Fleur learns fast how to use her magic. She also realizes she is more unique than others have told her. I can hardly wait to get the next book to continue following Fleur in her adventures at the Crystal Academy, with all of her magical friends.

DO NOT MISS THIS!!!
CRYSTALWING ACADEMY is the first book in the Outling series. These will need to be read in the order of release.
I’ll admit, I was one of those people standing in line (with my very young son) waiting for each of the Harry Potter books as they were released – and then arguing with said son over who got to read it first. This will be that type of series for the next generation. It is full of magic, teenage drama, a touch of romance, adventure, and secrets just waiting to be discovered.
Fleur has to learn about magic from the ground up since she is an outling, a child born of human parents. Luckily, we get to learn with her and that makes us root for her even more. Bullies, mean-girls, and evil in the woods along with a new academy, new magic, a new maybe-boyfriend, new roommate, and so many new discoveries – is it any wonder Fleur has a team of dragonflies taking up residence in her stomach!?
I’m ready for the next book now! The line forms behind me.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

ONE GO GET HER!!!
Kicking up dust! Marty brought out the big guns with this astonishing treat. You get it all with this little guy. A whirlwind of activity and events that pull all your emotions into play with every color on the spectrum. One incredible pulse racing, heart pounding, page flipping delight that brings this bad boy bursting to life flawlessly. Twixt and twined and put through the wringer as we witness all the trials and tribulations that kicks this bad boy into overdrive. You get drawn into this world so deep everything else ceases to exist. All the drama, uncertainty, danger and suspense keep you riveted on a the edge of your seat. When push comes to shove, all bets are off. Marty really brings this baby together beautifully with a engaging storyline and thrilling plot. The characters are authentic, original and realistic with such depth and qualities it’s easy to relate. The scenes are so descriptive and detailed it’s easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. Remarkable job Marty, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
Abandoned by her mom, given to a stranger to raise, and introduced to the world of magic is Fleur’s unfortunate childhood leaving her hoping one day she can join the magical world. Once she does its a learning curve in a hostile environment were most despise outlings, magical beings born to non-magical humans, like her. She is told she won’t get far, she won’t have much power, and that she’ll be tossed out after the Stone Trial..but that’s all a lie. Between her pink haired pixie bestie, the dreamy roof jumping Donovan, and her talking golden dragonfly the world she entered is like nothing she expected. The story is enrapturing and the mythos, while little, gives you just enough to eagerly want more. The suspense/mystery aspect is a very light towards middle of the novel which is ironic since that’s when the currents attacks were, but the violent history of the academy and the excerpt leave you with the sense this will change in future books. The light cliffhanger at the end was expected and the reader can easily pick up the clues about the dragon. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for more.

I really enjoyed this book. Although it’s more story than adventure, the characters more than make up for it!
The storyline is fun and intriguing, the world building is colorful and dark and the characters are magical and full of surprises!
Definitely looking forward to reading the next installment!
Rated 3.5 stars. CrystalWing is a great read for academy fans. The worldbuilding and storyline is good the only downside for me is the pacing it dragged a bit to much in the first half of the book but it picks up in the second half so i’m glad i didn’t give up. Overall still a good read and will grab book 2 cause my curiosity is picked and i want to know what will happen next.
Saw the cover, read this in the blurb “An exciting new world for Potter fans, filled with magic, suspense, a badass heroine, and flirty romance.” and knew I just had to it and omg it was fantastic! Well written this academy read has it all, magic, mystery, danger, romance and twists and turns and a super kick ass blue haired heroine who has you rooting for her the entire read! A highly entertaining storyline and I cannot wait for the next book!
