A second chance stand alone office romance from USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…Five years ago, Sam and I fell in love just as hard as we fell apart. The last thing I expect is for him to walk into my office as the new legal counsel. Now, I have to see him every single day. We vow to remain professional, but it’s a small office. The sly glances and his blistering charm are unavoidable. It … his blistering charm are unavoidable.
It all feels so familiar. Too comfortable. After what happened the last time…I should know better. If I’m not careful, he’ll break my heart all over again.
But being with Sam is everything I’ve ever wanted.
Maybe it’s worth giving my heart to him a second time.

4.5 Stars!
I am a fan of Linde’s book and this book definitely lived up to my expectations! Lark has a laser focus and determination on her job. She is looking to make her own way in the world. Her work life is interrupted when a blast from the past, Sam takes a job in legal. Sam and Lark previously dated and fell in love on a campaign in Wisconsin. Seeing Sam again has bought back all the feelings that she has repressed but she has no idea how Sam feels about her. I have always been a fan of Lark’s she was so determined to keep her friends together and I was really rooting she would find her happily ever after. It was also pleasant how she brings out the better side of Katherine out. I loved the writing and flow of this story. I loved how it kept me on my toes, I made predictions on how the story would go and was wrong I was okay with it. This is another must read by Linde! Dive in, you will not be disappointed!
Sam and Lark have not seen each other for 5 years and now he has walked back into her life. This is a well written story which is filled with angst, undeniable chemistry, and is a great 2nd chance romance. I was intrigued and hooked throughout and highly recommend for all.
Where do I start. I liked the idea of the storyline but it needed more drama. We didn’t find out in the beginning what had happened between Lark and Sam. Even without knowing it seemed strange that we didn’t get a backstory and that they just went about acting like they were cool with each other. After finding out what actually happened I can’t understand how come that storyline wasn’t played out more. If they were that devastated after they broke up there should have been more drama between the two when they first saw each other. I also expected more drama once Claire came back since it was like dejavu. Good story but I could have use a little more.
I wrote this review based on an advance reading copy that the publisher sent me.
I LOVED this book!
1) lark has been one of my fav characters during Cruel…
2) I love how badass she is
Enter Sam, swoon…
Lark is the assistant campaign manager.
Sam gets hired as the mayor’s campaign attorney!
This second chance romance is awesome with cameo appearances of The Crew among some non-crew returning characters.
Ps: I cannot wait for Katherine & Camden’s turn…
Can. Not. Wait.
K.A. Linde
What is it with stories about rich people that always have to be like the set of gossips girl? If that’s the case in real life they can have all the money I don’t need that much drama in my life.
Now back to THIS story; I’ll be honest and say for my first book by this author ( shocking I know) I was not that blown away like most of the people are when reading her. For me this story didn’t have that I’ll-die-if-i-don’t-get-to-have-you chemistry. The reason they broke up was not (for me) not explained well or maybe I should say the reason why they didn’t fight for their relationship was not explained well. But having said all of that I did like that dispait all the smoke and mirrors this group of friends are a strong unit and I’m excited to see what happens to them and how much trouble they’ll face before they find peace, love and happiness.
It’s sadly a 3.5* but I’m sure as the series continues I’ll start loving it.

K.A. Linde always delivers and never disappoints! The Lying Season was it for me. It had my attention from the very first word down to the last. Lark and Sam as old sweethearts have that history that will entwine with their present. I loved the story and was rooting for these two. There was some angst and steamy scenes that I could not get enough of. The Lying Season has me glued to the book.
Past collides with present when Larkin and Sam end up working on the same political campaign. The sparks are still there and their chemistry is off the charts but can the tough and independent Larkin let Sam back into her life? Can they have a second chance at a HEA even when their past has more questions than answers? With beautifully written characters and a storyline that kept me turning the pages, this was a great read. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!!
A second chance stand alone with characters that may be familiar if you’ve read the Cruel Trilogy, if not don’t despair, you will not feel like you’re missing anything.
Back working another campaign, Lark and Sam’s paths cross again, 5 years later. Will it be better for them this time around being older and wiser, or has that ship sailed and it’s time for them to move on and go their separate ways?
I liked that these two were relatable. Lark’s reactions to certain things were exactly how I would have felt. Drama for days, a little angst tossed in just to keep you on your toes, surrounding characters that I wouldn’t mind seeing again, all made for a good read.
I was excited to see Lark get her own book, we met her in the Cruel trilogy, I knew her story would be fabulous.
I love a second chance romance, Sam and Lark were perfect for each other, I loved Lark’s take no BS attitude and that she made Sam work for it. They had chemistry years ago and it never changed, they have the same magnetic pull even after all these years. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, and were Ms. LInde is going to take us.
I enjoyed the heck out of K A Linde’s Cruel series, so to get a chance to spend time with Lark, a character who seemed cloaked in stress and sadness, made me race to get my hands on this book. The good news: K A Linde does not disappoint.
Lark’s longing for Sam, for the relationship they shared–the relationship she left–feels palpable. She both wants and fears wanting. She looks at the couples around her with curiosity and even a bit of skepticism. If she continues pursuing her dreams of a life in politics, can she have love? Can she have Sam?
Ah, Sam. I love him. I wanted him and Lark to find their way to each other. Sam is a good man, and Linde helps you understand why he doesn’t trust Lark or his feelings for her. In the five years since their relationship ended, Lark has learned who she is. Sam has, too, although there is an openness to him where Lark is more closed. And sometimes that’s vice-versa.
Linde builds the feelings between the two, but given this book’s title, you can guess that suspicion is one of those feelings. Lark and Sam may not always be truthful with each other, but it’s the lies they tell themselves that break your heart more.
If you read the Cruel series, then you will enjoy seeing some of Lark’s Crew. (I remain obsessed with Katherine, by the way. Completely obsessed.) The focus here, though, is Lark and Sam, and their story is angsty, teary, and, yes, romantic.
THE LYING SEASON by K.A. Linde is a contemporary, adult, stand alone, erotic, romance story line focusing on attorney and campaign assistant Larkin ‘Lark’ St. Vincent, and attorney Sam Rutherford.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Lark and Sam) THE LYING SEASON follows the rekindling romance between former lovers campaign assistant Larkin ‘Lark’ St. Vincent, and attorney Sam Rutherford. Five years earlier Lark and Sam’s relationship imploded but Lark never expected to come face to face with her past working for New York Mayor Leslie Kensington. As the re-election campaign headed into the finals months and weeks, Lark would struggle between head and heart knowing the last time she and Sam were together, it destroyed the woman she once was. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship and romance between Lark and Sam, and the potential fall-out as office politics push Sam and Lark apart, and Sam’s past comes looking for a second chance.
Larkin St. Vincent grew up wealthy; a part of the St. Vincent dynasty but our heroine never wanted to ride on her family coat tails, instead she was hoping to make it on her own. A disastrous breakup five years earlier weighs heavily on Larkin’s mind, yet she continues to struggle with feelings and emotions of the fateful demise. Sam Rutherford had no idea that Larkin St. Vincent worked for the Mayor’s re-election campaign. Fresh from his own breakup, Sam battles between head and heart knowing a rebound relationship would do neither one any good.
Meanwhile, the Mayor’s son Court Kensington is making news headlines of his own. Not wanting her son to affect her re-election campaign, Leslie Kensington hires a friend of Lark’s, Anna English, to ‘fix’ what her son doesn’t want to have fixed.
The relationship between Sam and Lark is one of second chances; a forbidden office romance that implodes when the Mayor discovers the truth about their affair. Lark struggles with what happened in the past, as Sam believes a different story about what happened and why. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including several of Larkin’s childhood friends, friends that come from wealth and power- the elite family’s of the Upper East Side. We are introduced to fixer Anna English; Court Kensington and his crew: Gavin King, Camden Percy; Lark’s friends Katherine Van Pelt and Whitley Bowen.
THE LYING SEASON is a story of family, friendships, power and control; of wealth and money; of secrets and lies; of second chances and love. The premise is inviting; the characters are sassy; the romance is spicy and tender. THE LYING SEASON is the introductory story line in K.A. Linde’s new series focusing on the friendships and lives of New York’s Upper East Side

Woah, second chance romances hold a special place in my heart and this book was no exception. Lark is first introduced in the Cruel Trilogy as the glue who holds “crew” together, and then K.A. Linde gives us an incredible insight on her life apart from her Upper East Side group of friends in this novel, The Lying Season! Be prepared to fall in love with Sam and Lark!!! Don’t be surprised when K.A. Linde leaves you wanting more!
Lark has a history of trying to disconnect herself from the big St. Vincent family name in order to forge her own path in life. In fact, it started 5 years ago when she decided to work a political campaign in Madison, and found her love for the business… and her love for a man by the name of Sam Rutherford. Their relationship came to a sudden end by the end of the campaign, as did her alter ego “Bad Lark”, but Lark continued to work in politics in her home state of NY and left love on the back burner. Until one day, she walks into the office to see Sam was hired as a legal consultant on the campaign. Old feelings quickly begin to bubble to the surface that she feels she must hide. The campaign is too important to lose focus and Sam has a girlfriend anyway… how hard could it be? Oh Lark, don’t be so naïve.
Omg!!
The Lying Season is Larkin’s story and to be quite honest, I really loved her.
She was a determined woman who was brilliant at her job as it’s something she achieved on her own. I really want her as a friend. I loved the way she was with her friends.
When her ex, Sam is now employed where she works, needless to say things get a little bumpy but the ride is really worth it!
Heart to hearts, truths, lies, drama, friendships and family all combine to make this a great story.
Ms. Linde has shown her amazing writing skills through well written words that made this story very enjoyable to read.
I was hooked from the beginning, wondering how things will go for all the Upper East Side clan. I’m really excited for more of this series.
Such an incredible story. Not only does K A Linde give you main characters to focus on she incorporates others in their lives as well. Whenever I see a new story written by K A Linde I know it’s going to be a winner. Her writing is so incredible. She has you glued to every word. Her characters are just as amazing. She has you so connected to them you can’t let go. The “background” characters are always an added bonus. She knows exactly what her readers want and she always delivers. Sam and Lark were so much fun to read. Lark is so focused on her job and Sam has come back into hers after 5 years since their breakup. How will they be able to work together and not let the past come into their present?
I loved this second chance romance story by Kyla! 5 stars for this one!
Meet Lark, shes running the re-election campaign for the Mayor of NY, and she loves her job! Shes focused on that, seeing as how her love life is at a stand still, when one day in walks to one that left her, Sam, he’s the new legal council for the Mayor. Can she keep her feelings in check and work with him without allowing the old feelings to come back to the surface? Read along and find out!
I loved this one, and I love Kyla’s writing! She gave Sam & Lark an amazing all in story! Grab it asap!

I have been dying to read the Lying Season since we met Lark in the Cruel Trilogy. I was so excited to see that K.A. Linde was going to be writing a companion novel off of the Upper East Side Crew. This book did not disappoint at all!!!
This is a second chance romance centered around the campaign trail. This is a complete standalone novel and is told in Dual POV. You don’t have to read the Cruel Trilogy first if you don’t want to, but I would recommend it. I thought K.A. Linde does a great job filling in the holes when need be, but to get a full understanding of these characters and the lives they are wrapped up in, you should definitely read the Cruel Trilogy first.
I thought the pace and flow of this book worked well. The storyline is well developed and was well written. This book isn’t as angsty or drama filled as the Cruel Trilogy was, but this book does have it’s ups and downs and enough drama to keep you interested. I couln’t help but root for Lark and Sam to get their HEA.
This story is about Lark St. Vincent and Sam Rutherford. Lark is a part of the Upper East Side Crew and comes from a famous and wealthy family. But she has always been determined to make it on her own and do what she wants to do with her life. And that is NOT to work for her parents. She got the bug for politics when she worked on a campaign years ago…that is also where she met and fell in love with Sam. Until it all went south. Now 5 years later and Sam is back in her life. Can they get over the past and move forward to get their HEA?? Or has too much pain been inflicted?? I absolutely LOVED Lark’s character. She is spunky and sassy but also down to earth. I love how she has come to accept all of herself…including the flaws. Sam took me a little bit to warm up to, I wanted to shake him a couple times and tell him to wake up!!! But he finally grew on me and I loved him in the end.
I enjoyed seeing some of the Crew in this book, although I did miss seeing Penn and Natalie in this book. I also liked getting to know some new characters who make appearances in this book. I hope we see more of them in the future 😉
If you are a fan of a second chance love story, then this is one you will want to read. This is a book that should be on everyone’s TBR list!!!
