A second chance stand alone office romance from USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…Five years ago, Sam and I fell in love just as hard as we fell apart. The last thing I expect is for him to walk into my office as the new legal counsel. Now, I have to see him every single day. We vow to remain professional, but it’s a small office. The sly glances and his blistering charm are unavoidable. It … his blistering charm are unavoidable.
It all feels so familiar. Too comfortable. After what happened the last time…I should know better. If I’m not careful, he’ll break my heart all over again.
But being with Sam is everything I’ve ever wanted.
Maybe it’s worth giving my heart to him a second time.

I have been waiting to get this book on my hands since it was announced. I loved The Lying Season and all the angst K.A. Linde throws our way.
Lark loves her job working as a campaign manager. She’s is working on hard to get the mayor elected again. She never expected her ex Sam to show up and begin working there. Lark and Sam at one point were in love and when things ended it wasn’t pleasant.
Lark is such a strong heroine and stands up for what she wants and her friends. She is an easy character to like and made me like Katherine a little more, I never thought that would happen. It took me a while to like Sam but once I did, I fell hard.
If you are a fan of second chance romances, you need this book. I loved this book and highly recommend it.
*3.5 stars*
The Lying Season by K.A. Linde is a second chance romance with shades of political games, twists of rich and corrupted lives and some very interesting characters.
Lark has been trying to stay away from her rich Upper East side legacy so hard and she is working as a lead person in New York City’s Mayor’s campaign. And all were well till a blast from the past aka Sam joins their legal team. They have unfinished business and a past without closure. Sparks still fly but too many things are at stake including their job and friendships.
What made me confused was so many side characters. I felt I spent more time with Lark and Sam’s friends and their complicated lives than the main couple. Way too many things were happening too fast and I was kind of disoriented. I could not latch into anything. There was a bit of every thing and not enough of anything. The relationship of Sam and Lark didn’t keep me engaged. There were moments of drama, passion and tension those I loved. I was intrigued by the political games and power plays. I like Lark and Sam as individual characters. I liked Lark’s tenacity and strength and also her ability to identify her negative sides and fight those. Sam was a charming and gorgeous man. But I found his indecision a bit confusing.
Overall The Lying Season was an interesting combination of drama, politics, romance and everything.
Received ARC for honest review
Sam and Lark’s story makes for an an entertaining read! They take you on a crazy rollercoaster ride packed with love, heartbreak, secrets, lies and a second chance.
The Lying Season is the newest from K.A. Linde, a second chance romance that will hook you from the beginning.
Lark & Sam found love years ago on a campaign trail in Wisconsin until it ended with broken hearts and Lark heading back to NY. Five years later she’s living her dream, running the NY Mayoral campaign and trying to make a life for herself away from her family. What she’s not expecting is for Sam to waltz back into her life, her job & her heart.
This book was a roller coaster for me. I loved these characters and was rooting for them from the beginning, but their storyline made me want to scream. I found myself laughing and cheering, then having to stop myself from throwing my kindle. Curveballs are expected, the drama is necessary, but sometimes all I want is happiness. Especially for characters like these two, with incredible chemistry and tremendous love for one another.
One of my favorite things about their story wasn’t even them together, but how they grew on their own. Lark sticking up for herself and fighting for the life she wants was so empowering, and the weight off Sam’s shoulders when he reached out to his brother was palpable.
As much as I loved Sam & Lark, I adored their friends even more. They were all the perfect additions, and I am so excited about all of their stories!
Second chance romance paired with K.A. Linde’s signature angst, YES please! I loved this story. I loved getting to visit some previous characters and I fell hard for the two main characters. I loved their chemistry. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to see how everything would work out for them.
This story is a standalone, but I would highly recommend reading the Cruel Trilogy which is just as amazing. I love K.A. Linde’s work and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next! I know that she will definitely having me falling in love and wanting to throw my kindle.
ARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review.
“Our eyes met. Time slowed. Then froze. For the first time, I understood the meaning of my heart skipping a beat. Because it did.”
What would you do if “the one who got away” somehow ended up being your coworker? That is exactly what Lark is about to find out, because she’s blindsided by her ex at her dream job.
“A part of me ached to step forward. A part of me remembered what had happened. How we had fallen apart all those years ago. ‘Lark?’ he asked in disbelief. My traitorous heart fluttered. ‘Hi, Sam.’”
It’s Kyla, so of course Sam and Lark are in for some angst! Sam drops a bombshell on Lark that puts a halt in any plans she might have been daydreaming about.
I enjoyed this story! This was the first time I’ve read a book that was set on a political campaign and I found a lot of the campaign lifestyle interesting. I also really enjoyed seeing characters from the Cruel series. **Miss you Penn!**
The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star read for me was Sam. He was so unlike the male heroes that I usually read and enjoy. He seemed very passive instead of my preferred dominant alpha male. When I found out about what happened with Sam and Lark when they broke up originally, I was appalled on Lark’s behalf. I love Lark. I love her attitude, spunk, and drive. I really love Bad Lark. I kind of wish we had seen more Bad Lark in this one. Sam just didn’t appeal to me personally and I didn’t really understand what Lark loved about him either.
I will say that I am sooooo looking forward to getting Katherine and Court’s stories eventually. Those are going to be SO GOOD. I am drawn to Camden and Court. Those are my type of males.
Second Chances are what it’s all about!
Kyla rocked Lark’s story! I absolutely LOVED IT!!!
I was enraptured on page one and it just got better from there!
Lark and Sam’s journey was one of past misunderstandings and heartache.
Second chances are amazing when they come to you.
The emotions were portrayed to make me feel every last one of them.
Never once did I yell at either character that they needed to stop being unreasonable.
I can’t wait for what’s to come, I’m giddy in my seat just thinking about it!
Holy. Crap. I’m so in love with Sam and Lark. I loved reading about their journey and was even more intrigued by the glimpse into their past. Ugh! What a tease. Can’t wait to see where the rest of this world takes us.

You didn’t think you could escape the Upper East Side, did ya? I’m so happy the KA Linde is bringing us another story from the Crew. Trust me when I say that this book does not disappoint, plus we see snippets from other Crew members and enough tantalization of characters outside of the Crew.
As we have met, Larkin is campaign manager for Penn’s mother, the Mayor of NYC. You see as Larkin struggles with trying to become her own person outside of her families wealth, with undo pressure for her to join them, a crazy ex (that her parents sided with), the stress of running a winning election campaign, the last thing she needs is to run into Sam Rutherford.
It’s been 5 years, and as soon as Sam is reintroduced to Larkin old feelings flame to the surface. But there are many obstacles in the way for them to find their path forward.
You’ll have to one click to find out what happens. I absolutely loved this refreshing story!
Second chances? Opposites attract? Check to both. Plus if you love angsty romance, this had lots. I think I was anxious the whole time reading it. There are so many obstacles between Lark and Sam that I felt like I would never get to their ending. But it was so worth it.
What an amazing story and so well written. I absolutely devoured this book. The storyline, the characters, the feels.
Sam and Lark. A couple that started a while ago, ended terribly, but life happens and they are back in each other’s space. They have a second chance. But second chances don’t come easy. Apologies need to be offered, forgiveness has to be issued, exes must go and trust must be rebuilt. Follow Sam and Lark on their journey to find each other again and see if second chances are in store.
The Lying Season is another angsty second chance romance from the queen of angst, K.A. Linde.
Lark St. Vincent is a successful campaign manager from the upper east side. She’s working hard to re-elect the mayor, when she gets a blast from her past. In the form of Sam Rutherford, her ex-boyfriend who is now working with her. Years ago, Sam and Lark fell in love on a different campaign but things didn’t end well. Its obvious Lark still has feelings for Sam, and he may feel the same way, and that makes working together all the more difficult.
I loved Lark. She’s the glue that holds her friend group together, and she brought out a human side to Kathrine that I never saw in the other books. I actually kind of want her to get her own book now… You don’t need to read the Cruel Money series to read this, it can be a complete stand-alone, but if you’ve read those, you’ll see many familiar faces and even a few familiar scenes.
As much as I loved Lark, I also really liked Sam. They had a past, but they also had so much chemistry together. I couldn’t wait to see how their story would turn out. Though there were obstacles in their way, I really rooted for them to get it together.
I’m a fan of second chance romances and I love Linde’s angsty books, so this was a huge win for me. If you’re looking for a book with lots of heart, lots of heat, and one you won’t want to put down, pick up The Lying Season!
WOW!!!! I am a sucker for a good second chance romance and this book did not disappoint! This book had everything! There was a great story line, AMAZING characters, some serious chemistry and of course some drama thrown in to keep me on my toes!
Lark is such an amazing character and I loved how hard working and determined she was! When her ex gets a job working with her she is forced to face feelings that she thought she was over a long time ago. Sam was also such a great character. He was thoughtful and kind and really such a great guy. I was dying to know what had happened between them 5 years ago and knew that it was going to be one heck of a story.
This book was one that had me hooked and didn’t let me go. Not only are Lark and Sam great characters, but all of their friends are so interesting that I am dying to know more about their lives as well. I can not wait to get my hands on the next book so I can find out what happens with Court and English! By Alisa
Loved this second chance love story and it’s rare that I genuinely enjoy both the hero and the heroine but I did with this one. Lark is very very career driven and has a one track mind when it comes to her job and when Sam enters the picture again after being brought in the campaign trail and her not seeing him for years they try to act like business as usual but there chemistry is still like a live wire even after all this time. I enjoyed his this story played out
A second chance romance set in the political arena with all the drama that comes with it. I enjoyed the way the story slowly unfolded, we know Sam and Lark have a past and it ended badly but we don’t find out why right away. Lark is the Upper East Side girl who has pulled away from her family to forge her own path. I really liked Lark she is a confident independent succesful young woman but also friendly loyal and down to earth. Sam is tall dark and handsome, he’s ambitious but a bit of a mystery when he initially meet him. It took me awhile to warm to Sam I wanted him to make a decision and for them to talk. There were some parts that seemed quite drawn out but I still enjoyed the story and the characters.
I received a complimentary ARC – early release copy of this book in Kindle format from the author for review purposes.
This books description sounded interesting and so I was excited to dig into it. I should mention that it is part of a series though I have never read the series before. The series seems to start with the Cruel Trilogy and this book stars Lark from that series and introduces her ex, Sam.
Sam and Lark were in love together 5 years before but she was a rich and he was not and he was a sweet southern boy who she never told she was rich but her home is NYC and Sam was always a small town boy and so he refused to move to NYC and so they broke up.
Now this is supposedly a stand alone book and it ends with a HEA and NO CLIFF. The next book is about Larks bestie but a totally different couple, Court and English but you need to read this book before that one.
This story is about exes finding a 2nd chance and a romance in politics and on the job. It was told well as in the writing but I kinda hated the characters. They acted very immature and featured many love triangles.
I did not love this story, I cringed at certain parts and skimmed some other parts but it was a also a story I needed to finish so I knew how it ended. That said in this story my biggest complaint was that when Sam comes back he is not single. He never cheats but he is thinking about another woman and they even are living together. So I kinda hated that part of the story.
Gah.. I was a sucker for a good dynamic couple. Lark and Sam were the old flames with personalities. The Lying Season was interesting and played the second
-chance romance well and romantic. This story was heart-warming and has all the right feelings.. It was angsty, dreamy and strong characters.
Where do I start and can I do this book justice !!!!!
This is certainly second chance romance at its best and I highly recommend The Lying Season to all lovers of this genre as well as all romance lovers in general.
Lark St Vincent is enjoying life, she is a successful campaign manager and she is working on getting the mayor of New York re-elected but she doesn’t expect a blast from the past to walk into her office. Sam was the Ex she thought she had left behind, they fell in love while working together on a previous campaign but working and playing together didn’t end well for them back then will this time around be any different……
This is a stand-alone and you don’t need to read any of this authors previous books to enjoy this entertaining read. This book ticked all my boxes, I loved the characters, I loved the plot, the chemistry was scorching hot and this book has the perfect mix of romance, passion, angst with witty banter. The Lying Season drew me in, it captivated me and I stayed up most of the night because I needed to see if Lark and Sam got the HEA they deserved. A beautifully written story from a very talented author and I really recommend you one clicking now !!!!
I received a free copy of this book from the author.
If you read Ms. Linde’s Cruel series you were introduced to Larkin as one of the crew. You don’t need to read the Cruel series to read The Lying Season. You won’t be lost and there’s only a few characters that cross over into this book. The Lying Season is all about Lark and her beau, Sam.
I was excited to be able to read this book. Lark is an interesting character and I wanted to know what her deal was with this Sam dude. Here we have it. Oh my gosh do we have it!
Obviously these two have a history. One, that as the story unfolds comes into itself as to not allow the history to repeat. No matter how hard they try to keep each other at arms length they just can’t. They’re two attracted magnets.
You will love this story. It’s different for a K.A. Linde book not to have a love triangle of some sort but this one doesn’t. I love how they work together including who they are as friends and more than friends. I’m sure you will too!
This is a great second-chance romance from KA Linde. She has given us 2 amazingly strong characters. Once you start this you will be completely enamoured with the Upper East side.
After meeting Lark and her crew in the Cruel Trilogy I was excited to read her book and see her softer side. She has completely grown and changed from her ‘Bad Lark’ Days and I absolutely loved this girl.
Sam was the perfect guy for her, he complimented her and the chemistry was undeniable between them. Even when they are first reunited and trying to deny their feelings you could feel the connection, it was palpable.
When I started this I was hooked and didn’t want to put it down and go to work, I ended up counting down the hours until I could get home and finish it. It has left me excited and eagerly awaiting the next book in the series The Hating Season
