This book kept me entertained from beginning to end. I was dying laughing at parts and absolutely heartbroken at others. Kept me in at every turn waiting for more…
I really want to like Penn, but his ethics and his crew is getting to me. Natalie, I think, is pretty naive at sometimes during the book. But, with all of that being said, I ended up liking the story and can’t wait to see what happens in book 2. Just give this book a chance, because I think Penn will redeem himself in the next book and I can’t wait to see how he pulls it off.
“My dream and nightmare stood before me. Clothed like a god walking off of a James Bond set with dark hair and midnight – blue eyes that flickered in the dying embers.”
When Gossip Girl and Cruel Intentions collide into one, K.A. Linde brings another addictive, angsty and totally unputdownable book.
Cruel Money takes place 6 years after One Cruel Night, which is what made me so excited about this book and the series.
Natalie is a writer looking for her big break while she house sits for the rich and famous. Living the nomad life and truly enjoying what she does, Natalie is now in the Hamptons house sitting for Mayor Kensington when Penn Kensington, the guy who made her last night in Paris six years ago the most beautiful night of her life and then tarnished it the next day.
Penn, born and brought up on the Upper East Side and with the most elite of the elite, is world’s away from Natalie and everything she represents or comes from.
Seeing Natalie at his mother’s home was not something he had expected and now he can’t get her out of his mind.
The connection between Natalie and Penn burns as bright as it did all those years ago and try as she may, Natalie can’t resist Penn. But little does she know about the games and deceit being played by the people she knows, that is hovering in the horizons, bidding their time to reveal themselves.
“I turned to face him. Not with tears in my eyes, but anger. No heartbreak, just emptiness. This was the end. It was over. Penn Kensington had done everything he could to ruin what was left of the romantic in my soul.”
I loved Natalie and the way she was written. She didn’t cower under the rich kids and gave back to them with wit, confidence and smart unfiltered remarks.
Penn… I’m a little on the ledge with him at the moment. I like him, I do, but there were times when I wanted to give him a good shake and bring some sense into him. Though I have to give a special mention to my favourite out of the lot — Lewis. He is a real charmer and genuine and true with Natalie and I would love to see more scenes between the two of them.
I was invested in the story from start to finish. It has angst, drama, deception, seduction, manipulation and lies coated in honey making Penn and Natalie’s story equal parts twisted and intriguing.
If you love stories that are dripping in deception and about the glamorous lifestyle of the Upper East Side that hides its deviousness behind fake smiles and glitter then this is it.
I am so so ready for Cruel Fortune which is, unfortunately, releasing sometime in April! (so far… sigh)
4.5 Stars!
Gossip Girl meets Cruel Intentions in this new billionaire romance from K.A. Linde
This book has it all
my latest addiction…. I need book two!
First time reading this author, I loved this book from beginning to end. I loved the characters, their chemistry. Loved the story line. It has suspense/drama. I look forward to reading the other book to see how the story unfolds. I would recommend reading this book.
The Haves and Have-nots don’t live in the same world. So what happens when one of each fall for each other? Fun, steam, laughs and utter destruction!
Natalie was just there for a job. How was she to know that the owner’s son was the one to wreck her a year before?
Penn just wanted a weekend to hang out at the beach with his Crew. How was he to know that the one woman he never forgot would be there.
A touchy situation, a ridiculous bet, a tentative friendship and a lust filled month are all the makings of a massive heartbreak.
This is book one and man what a story it has been! Warning, there is a cliff hanger. But, it only serves to make you hungry for more. K.A. Linde killed it with this one and I have to move on to the next.
Very enjoyable read.
Interesting storyline and twisted characters. It shows the real true side of upper east people with lots of money. Their evil games and backstabbing nature. Natalie is too good and naive for them. Can’t wait to read next book in series.
Conniving Lives
Six years ago changed Natalie into a bitter, jaded, aggressive, and cynical woman towards Penn after a whirlwind weekend in Paris. The bright light in his life, Penn turned away from her.
Six years later and happenstance brings the two together again. Penn and his friends, aptly named The Crew, create a cruel wager with Natalie unbeknownst in the middle.
There a lot of characters in this enemies to lovers trilogy romance. Mainly from The Crew; with their own style, personality, part in this story, and their own backstoryies. It’s a lot going on in any given chapter. Most conniving and two-faced throughout though. Ping-ponging back and forth, lie after lie. Ugh.
I was hooked on this story from the very beginning of the prequel One Cruel Night, which I highly recommend you read first before starting this series. While there are some aspects of Cruel Money that aren’t original, I still loved it. There are characters you will love to root for and then there are characters you’ll love to hate because of their machinations and hypocritical, devious, and treacherous ways. Yes, there’s drama and angst, some of which you can anticipate coming, but that’s what kept this so interesting for me. And now I can’t wait to see how our MC, Natalie, gets even and realizes her much deserved success and HEA, because this is just the beginning of her story.
I absolutely loved this book so much I had to buy the next one before I was even halfway done with it.
OMG! I cannot rave about this book enough! Natalie is a strong, free spirit. She embraces who she is and does not try to conform to fit others standards. Penn is, well, a spoiled boy trying to overcome his shortcomings and become the man he wants to be, it is a trait I admire. It’s not easy to change years of poor behavior, but he is working hard at it. These two have a long way to go in understanding each other, but relationships in any form are like that. I got this book in the LuvBooks subscription box, so when I realized it ended in a cliffhanger, it was like a dagger to my heart, but the other books are definitely on my want list.
The best kind of books are those that have you so intrigued you can’t put it down and this is exactly what cruel money did. I was enamoured by both Natalie and Penn and became invested in their story. I loved their chemistry and they had such a beautiful push and pull between them. Yes there was miscommunication and I wanted to bang their heads together at points but the scenes we saw them truly let go of the angst and hurt and just be was amazing. I loved learning about the friendship circle and I am eager foe their books! Especially Katherine’s! I can’t wait to see where this weris will go. The sexuql tension and chemistry was everything and tjeu together make such a gorgeous couple. So rich of art, of sensuality, feelings and just all the emotions!
This book is edgy, and suspenseful and sexy, all the things a good dark romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
