I’m such a fan of Beauty & the Beast retellings, and this one is absolutely one of the most unique. It’s clearly based on the classic fairy tale, but it quickly takes on a life of its own: there are heavy influences from Greek & Roman mythology that lend an uncommon lens to the story, and the paradoxes of the world keep anything from feeling too …
Cruel Beauty is an intriguing and entertaining retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast fairytale. I found myself enjoying the characters and the interesting fantasy/paranormal elements in this world. Initially I was a little confused by the female lead character Nyx’s somewhat instant attraction to Shade, her husband Ignifex’s shadow (yes, …
love it it the best
This Beauty and the Beast retelling was so much darker than I expected. I loved every minute of it. Nyx is a flawed and wonderful character. Her strained relationship with Ignifex makes this story so interesting. I highly recommend this one.
honestly this book from my school was so amazing i went to find more books by Rosamund. This book is phenomenal and I truly could correlate the feelings of character to my heart. the detail to rooms in the gentle lord’s mansion was better than a mouth watering dessert! Rosamund Hodge is truly amazing and should honestly have many many more fans.
For those who love an interesting take on a well known story… this book is for you! I couldn’t put it down and adored the characters.
Devoured this book in one day.
I didnt like the end
A Rich, Luscious,Weaving… a true story telling… I can’t express what a beautiful read this book is… I am enchanted…. The deep point of view is breath taking! The descriptions… the emotions… just breath taking….
The book is amazing!I was gladly enjoying in every page. Its full of dark mustery, fun, and it is very deep meaning book.I love it 🙂
I know in the description this novel is compared to Beauty and the Beast, but that doesn’t feel *entirely* true to me. The Beauty and the Beast vibes are more minor to the story than you’d think. It’s actually more Beauty and the Beast meets Alice in Wonderland??? And honestly, you’re either gonna love this book or you’re gonna hate it. It’s …
I really quite enjoyed this retelling. It was an interesting twist on things. The only reason it didn’t get a full five stars is that some of the twists were actually somewhat predictable. Or, at least, I saw them coming. But I felt a lot for these characters, and I thought they were well-developed. And I think my favorite thing about them is they …
A loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast, in which the heroine isn’t all sweetness and light herself, and the hero is *delighted* by her jagged, poison-coated edges.
Cruel Beauty is an interesting retelling of the tale of Beauty and the Beast. However, I had a hard time getting into the story. The writing is beautiful and entertaining, but the character of Nyx grated, and I never really got to experience the story through her. She just seemed so disagreeable, though considering what she had been raised for, …
I guessed the plot twist from the start but it’s a great book. Real page turner. I finished it in just a few hours!
So hard to read. I couldn’t get into it at all. Less than stellar main character. Not sure what I was hoping with this book, but it was disappointing.
I was bored and never finished it.
I found it boring, slow, and redundant. So much narrative and referencing of mythical stories that kept taking you out of this one. Every few pages was the same old thoughts in the heroine’s head, mostly lamenting about hurting her sister’s feelings. The Gentle Lord added some personality but even that was sacrificed for the heroine’s inner …
I am stuck loving and disliking this book in equal parts!! Not unlike the characters feelings towards each other… I thought it was well written, loved the world building and the struggle on the fine line between relationships, but struggled myself with the constantly changing just out of reach concepts… I want to give it a 5, but also a 1 so I …
