The smallest towns have the darkest secrets.Raelynn Davenport. An elusive beauty queen with a sordid past. The Blackwoods.A prominent family with a graveyard full of tortured skeletons. The plan couldn’t have been simpler. All I had to do was swap my big city life and tarnished reputation for a fresh start in a small town.Catching the immediate attention of said town’s heart-throbs was nowhere on my … town.
Catching the immediate attention of said town’s heart-throbs was nowhere on my agenda.
Unapologetic about their true intentions, I find myself in the center of a game that has no concept of moral aptitude.
All I wanted was peace.
All they crave is madness.
And in this game, losing isn’t an option.
Not when we’re playing for my life.
Prelude to Deviant Games
more
Oh my goodness! I don’t know why I took so long to start with this series. It is an amazing and a very intense read that it will have you wanting more of this dark and twisted games. It is definitely a very deviant game this chacaters are playing. I can not wait to see how all of this will come out at the end.
Crucible by Natalie Bennett is book is the Prequel for the Deviant Games Series. This starts the story of Raelynn Davenport.
Raelynn is looking to get a fresh start in the small town of Harmony Springs…all is going good until the Blackwood Family seems to interested in her. They are the predominant family in that town, with some dark secrets. Jace and Kaiden Blackwood are interested in Raelynn and think she is the women for them…but can they make her see this?
Great start to a series.
Well, Bennett did it to me again.
Another journey into a depraved game with some messed up characters.
Here we meet Raelynn, fresh into Harmony Springs after a royal mess has been made of her life in the city.
And enter the Blackwoods, keepers of this little town, a set of twins with their eyes on the girl.
Some creepy happenings, a lot of secrets and a freaking cliffy leave us dangling on the edge of WTF.
I’m so ready for Malady, it isn’t even funny.
This is the prequel book in the Deviant Games series, and the story of Rae. Trying to move on from her sordid past, Rae moves to a small town, in hope of some peace. When she catches the eye of Jake, and Kaiden, the Blackwood twins, she ends up an unwilling player in their twisted games. This was dark, intense, twisted, suspenseful, and kept me intrigued the whole way through.
***3,75 “PLAY!!!” stars***
Let’s play a game…
What a crazy story was that!!!! And after that ending, now i want to find out more about it…
Phew!!! What can i say about this story???
Rae is new to town and she is involving herself with the Blackwood twins…
A crazy and twisted story is developing cause the twins are more than the eye can catch and their minds are working in mysterious and twisted ways…
What will happen after all???
“I wanted him and his brother to want me just as badly as I wanted to run far away from them…”
Seriously, guys!!! That was some crazy shit that Natalie had written for once again and honestly, i can wait to see how this story will end up….
And for once in my life, i really don’t know if i need a HEA cause after what i gathered in here, i don’t think a possibily to exist something like that, but maybe i’m wrong, right???
“The women were so responsive.
You made them feel as if they had no other option but to play. Then, you gave them an illusion of choice.
When they figured out it was a ruse, it was too late. The game was over, and the hunt had begun. ”
Rae was a strong and indepented woman who obviously let her lust rule her life and i’m afraid that she is going to paid the price for that slip…
The twins are… weird.
I personally preffered Jace… He was more easygoing… more straight to read him…
Kaiden was giving me a creepy vibe in a weird way, since you know he seemed more gentle..
But don’t fool yourself… They are both batshit crazy and with no moral compass…
So be prepared!!!’
The game is about to begin….
“Kaiden was merely an extension of me. What was mine was his, and what was his was mine.”
*I received an ARC of this book. Thank you.
This was a very dark story, and it was a cliffhanger. The violence, threat of violence, and death throughout gives a feeling of foreboding. Rae had her own past to bring to this town, and as things happened around her, I began questioning how it may upset the plans of the Blackwoods. The game has just started and will carry on in the next book. There are certain things that can be triggers for some people, so be warned.
I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
The idea of a Natalie Bennett book scares the crap out of me. They are usually portrayed as a kind of dark romance that I don’t want to read. And yet, this is the second of her books that I’ve read and loved. I have to be honest, this book did make pansy-assed me toss it across the room, hide under the blankets and not pick it back up for two days, because I am that much of a wuss. But looking back, it wasn’t as bad as I was making it out to be in my mind. The suspense was on point, and had me way out of my comfort zone. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series, and hope that I don’t chicken out before it’s all wrapped up because I am so intrigued!
Okay not great. Pretty much all of the major players are deplorable. A girl who murders and skips town. A family who likes to kidnap and kill girls for fun. I like dark erotica, believe me, I do. But this just had no good stuff. No one redeemable.
Don’t even buy this book. It is the most stupid book I have tried to read. I had to stop. Could not finish it at all.
This book was insane. Has you on the edge wanting more. I’ve already pre ordered 2nd book! Some language and some sexual situations that may be uncomfortable for some with sensitivity to read.
So this was a fantastic appetiser for the forthcoming main course the only problem here I had was that I wanted that meal as soon as I finished here rather than waiting for its imminent release.
Patience is definitely not my middle name folks.
So in “Crucible”, we get introduced to The Blackwoods, an extremely dodgy family with some way off Eeby-Geeby vibes and Raelynn Davenport in town to start over and escape a mistake in her not so distant past and it’s not long into her arrival that she attracts the attention of two extremely sexy twins with a hidden agenda and a penchant for sadistic games.
This is everything you have come to expect from this author, it’s dark and twisted with nefarious intent throughout.
This is your completely atypical love story, totally Bennett style: There are certainly no rainbows and roses here but instead, we are introduced to the onset of Rae and the boy’s chaotic and cruel courtship and I really can’t wait to delve deeper here.
Bring on the crazy.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Crucible (Deviant Games #0).
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

4.5 Stars of AWESOMESAUCE!!
When it comes to dark and disturbing, Natalie Bennett is a queen! Her books always take me right to edge of what I feel comfortable with and pushes me to go further, but I absolutely love it.
Crucible is the beginning of a new series for her, so we are just starting to find out about the characters and situations in which readers will find. I can definitely say that I am beyond intrigued about what lies ahead with the characters and how she will pull this story off.
There are a lot of questions that I have after finishing the story and I know that I will get those answered as the series goes on. I so need to know more about the characters and the games that are played and also the whole dynamic of this family.
Overall, great start. Questions to be answered, intrigue abounding, and games to be played. The characters are interesting, but I need to know more! This book did not have the gore or violence that is quintessential for Natalie Bennett’s work, but I do believe that is going to be ramped up as the series continues. Overall, EXCELLENT! I am totally looking forward to what comes next with Rae and the Blackwoods. Two thumbs up and happy reading!!!
Crucible by Natalie Bennett is the steaming hot prequel to Affliction due out March 28. This story has serious sex appeal with some scary twists and turns. It is fast paced and leaves off on a cliff-hanger making you want to scream because you just must know what happens next! Crucible is naughty and suspenseful and down-right tricky. Join the mysterious game in this 5-star read before the Affliction is released.
The Blackwood’s are a scary tight nit family that control the whole town of Harmony Springs and when Raelynn moves to town the twin Blackwood brothers decide they are going to play a game. It’s win-win for the Blackwood’s but Raelynn might be on the losing end of this game. Will Raelynn become just another face on the missing person board, or will she be able to beat the brothers at their own game?
When Raelynn moved to a small town, it was to get out of the spotlight and to avoid jail. The house her parents bought her is perfect with the exception of the creepy shed thats locked by a huge padlock in the backyard. The last thing Raelynn needs in her new life is the Blackwoods deciding they wanted her. The Blackwoods being one of the prominent families of the small town, they can do no wrong…. well they can but no one calls them on it. When the twins set their sights on Rae, its only a matter of time before she caves and becomes theirs. But what happens when she decides she doesn’t want to play their game anymore?
Holy cow, this was just an introduction to the Blackwoods and just a taste of their game playing ways. I wanted more, I was not ready for the story to end, but hopefully the next book won’t be too long off. With some really hot naughty bits, the games these twins play may not be for everyone. I give this 5 stars.
4.5 of WTF??
I get it’s a prequel and hopefully so many of my many questions will be answered with the upcoming series.
There was just too many questions for me.
It took me a couple chapters to get the feel of the book. Once I did I was binging Natalie Bennett’s words hard!
Rae, I’m still gettin g a feel for her, she let her guard down for some sex. I mean I can’t blame the girl but girl code dude. Self preservation over manly bits. She is still pretty kick ass. Didn’t bend down and wasn’t submissive. I am curious if she’s gonna be a fighter. That’s something that was missing. I got no sense if she was gonna fight these bsc psychos or submit. I hope she’s a fighter and can have those men kneeling before her.
Kade and Jace, these two, hot as hell, of course, most psychos are charming and hot lol. Their POVs only gave me more questions and made me dizzy. But I couldn’t turn away from the crazy!!
Well miss Bennet I will be waiting for the next one!! Crazy is a guilty pleasure after all. Definitely a series to keep an eye on this year!
I loved this twisted prequel! I can’t wait for more on Jace, Kade, and Rae! It’s going to be a fun ride….
***5 ‘Play’ Stars***
I knew this one would be dark and deviant simply based on the blurb, but it is looking like it’s going to a luscious little mind fuck as well and I cannot wait to see just how far things go. Now, Crucible is more of a “Hi! How are ya? Let’s introduce you around a bit and get a feel for the place” type of read, so we really only get a taste of what’s going on, though I will say that the smexy is HAWT! But we do meet what looks to be all the major players and I NEED to know more about them all. We get a good idea of who Raelynn is and her reasons for heading to small town USA and I have to say, I like her so far. She’s city, but not so big for her britches and is pretty chill. As for the Blackwoods, Jace and Kaiden, to put it simply, fascinate me and I need to know more about them and their crew of deviants.
While this is quite obvious and redundant to say, I am going to say it: This is a dark, deviant and debauched read. It may only be a prequel, but it didn’t shirk on anything. So, if you have triggers of any kind, stay far, far away, if not? Well, you’ll be in for one heck of a treat.
Now, my only issue is having to wait for the games to actually begin, but I shall do my best to practice patience until that time comes.

I love the cover of this book. It really pops and stands out.
It is the first book in a new series and it is a prelude to the next book. I am not going to say anything about the actual story because I don’t want to spoil anything and a lot of things aren’t clear yet. I have no idea where this story is going to lead me.
The book grabbed me from the beginning and I read the story in one sitting. The characters are very intriguing. I liked Rae a lot and I don’t think she will be giving in without a fight. I can’t wait to find out more about the Blackwood family and their games.
There are a lot of secrets that are yet to be revealed. The book wasn’t to gory or dark, but I won’t be surprised if that changes with the next book
I am sitting here banging my head because Natalie Bennett just welt my appetite for all things dark and dangerous, and now I have to wait and wait for AFFLICTION. Crucible is short, dark and oh so delicious as an introduction to the Blackwoods.
Let
the
Game
BEGIN!!
Well if this little prequel doesn’t whet your dark appetite and grasp your need for more of this dire tale, I am thinking the next installment may be too disturbing for your virtuous morality. Crucible sets up the plot for the upcoming release of Affliction, and it’s looking to be one doosie of a story.
Jace and Kaiden are two sexy twins that apparently share everything. They are a seductively menacing duo that love to play some bizarre games. Raelynn, new to town, gets caught up in the two and their amusements. When Raelynn realizes that the twins’ fun is more macabre than entertaining, she tries to high-tail it out of town. But the dastardly duo have other plans for her.
