Part paranormal, part crime book… a riveting read that builds and builds until you get to a point where you simply can’t put it down
Format: audiobook
This story is a mix of supernatural, mystery and suspense and does it deliver! It was well written and well narrated, the investigation is clear and concise keeping you invested on the outcome.
This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and although I see that this is book 2 in this series I didn’t feel as though I was missing any information although I will now be looking forward to reading book 1.
Very enjoyable story and I’ll certainly be looking for more by this author.
I read that this was a ghost story, a supernatural thriller, and suspenseful, it was none of these. There’s a “shadow” for about two Pages at the beginning of the book, then there is people interviewing other people, and the ghost didn’t show up again until my kindle was at 80%. Then the “ghost” shows up for about three pages, and that’s it. It was neither supernatural, or suspenseful. You would think that a book about a TV show that features ghost hunters, would actually have ghosts in it. I can’t recommend this book, unless you need something to put you to sleep.
I didn’t finish it, did not like it
A great book that can still surprise you, even after you think you’ve figured it all out!
This was a great read, it is an intense story, but the overall feel is lighter, which makes it easier to read. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this book, from the storyline, to the characters, to the setting, etc… After the first book, I wondered how he would move on from that, but he did brilliantly! I loved how each book is loosely connected but still completely separate. Out of the two, this by far is my favorite, I loved the whodunnit aspect of the story mixed with magic and mystery and a murder most foul! Fantastic job, and thank you every so much for the opportunity to review this jewel!
The second in a new series by John Bowen, this book can be enjoyed as a stand alone.
Characters from the first book return but the addition of Choe brings a spark of energy and her background adds to this book.
For anyone that has ever watched the tv shows where people check out haunted homes or places, this is for you. Even when you don’t see what the guys with their special equipment see or hear, you become hooked and keep watching the show and have your favorite ghost hunters.
Charles, a medium, now in charge of production, and Ray, ex-cop, now researcher are back and looking for new haunts. Chloe, young and popular on you tube, joins the group. Chloe is trying to move on, make a living, and get over her past, but this new case, brings memories back.
The house doesn’t look haunted, atmosphere is important when filming. But touring the home, Chloe and Charles see a figure in a hall.
Ray researches the house and the people that lived there. The home once belonged to an occult scholar and his group. And there is talk of a mysterious box called the Mephisto Arcane.
From there, they look into the Longwood Occult Society from the 70s and 80s. It ended when after a wild party, a man commits suicide and a woman disappears. Is it a mystery about the party or is it haunting from the occult meetings?
This is a solid, well plotted book and the suspense creeps up and seems worse at night…..Charles walking into his home carrying a devise device found in a wall….you just hold your breath….a mysterious fire, burglary and rumors.
Chloe meets Nick, a nurse, took care of Hubert Langley, previous owner of the home and an occult scholar. Chloe falls for Nick and he seems rather perfect, maybe too perfect. And information on the suicide turns into blackmail and what did happen to the girl?? Is she dead and buried? Chloe wants her gound for reasons of her own.
You see the 70s and 80s with the parties, drugs, and ouija boards and love of spirits. And how quickly it all changes and people hide or lie to distance themselves from “that time”. The ending is very satisfying and I loved Chloe.
The info on the original occult society went on a bit long as did the men that started it up a second time….but they were inportant….needed to be tightened up a bit.
Read this book in two sittings and really enjoyed it! Four stars.
I was given an advanced copy but as always, my opinions are mine alone and I don’t hold back.
