As a child, I discovered a castle. It became a sanctuary from the nightmare that was my life, but my fairytale truly began when he found me.The boy with green eyes and crooked smile. The boy with stories and an imagination that could take us far, far away. In our castle he was the prince, and I the princess. For the first time in my life I was safe, happy. I was loved. But every fairytale has a … loved.
But every fairytale has a villain, ours would be no different.
I just never expected the villain to be me.

This isn’t a pretty little perfect love story. Their story wasn’t pretty. Hers was a nightmare. There are parts that are hard to read since her childhood was quite traumatic. This author does a wonderful job of bringing this story to paper. While there are some parts that kind of dragged it is a well written story with characters you want to succeed. This is a very emotional read that has some pretty intense subject matter and it is not a standalone read. I do love this author’s style and though this is my first time reading her work it most definitely wont be my last.
“I’m whoever you need me to be. A prince when you need me to be. A prince when you need saving, a wizard when you want a little magic, and a fairy godmother when you deserve a wish.”
Not only did this completely rupture my heartstrings, it threw them completely out the window. So much heartbreak stemming from childhood and continuing throughout this poor girl’s life just made me ache for her. The pain, the abuse, the horrors of a nightmare home-life brought real, gritty issues to light, but fear not, the hope, the light, the saving grace found its way in and invaded me, heart and soul. Even with the graphic, heart-shattering events, you are led down a beautiful path, and I just devoured it.
“Maybe she’ll always be a little broken, and maybe I can’t scare off all her ghosts. But even if I have to wake up each day devising a new plan to light up her blue eyes and see her smile, she’ll be my girl.”
Rooting for good to win, twisted with darkness, you become so lost in the story, it will change you after you’re done. The purity of this relationship completely outweighs the rawness of the tragic story of these two characters. And as all my favorites always do, just when you see the light at the end of the tunnel, you hit a brick wall, your jaw is left hanging wide open, and you reserve a seat right near the Author to await the next book. It’s an absolute emotional must-read!!
“The boy who pulled me into sunshine when I was shrouded in darkness.”
