This is one crown you don’t want.Born and raised in the Dregs, the last thing I expected was the “honor” of being recruited to Crown Princess Academy. And by honor, I mean fighting for my life against the fae that rule our world. Our first exam is in three weeks and not every student will make it out alive… don’t these bimbos realize that? I’m not fooled. I know how ruthless the fae can be.All the … ruthless the fae can be.
All the princess initiates are captivated by Lucas, the sexy fae Crown Prince who, in turn, seems fixated on me. He can’t know that I’m actually the most powerful Malice Caster in the Dregs. I’m sure my talents for the Criminal Guild won’t earn me any extra credit in my princess classes.
All my life I’ve stayed one step ahead of the two-faced fae and their Malice, the out of control black magic that has nearly wiped out all of humanity. This is my chance to do more than survive—this is my chance to fight back.
I’ll play the Crown Prince’s game. I’ll wear the tiny initiate crown, dance in my glittering pink dress, survive the deadly exams, and ultimately graduate as the Crown Princess all while he thinks I’m playing right into his plans.
He’s in for a surprise when I reveal who I am and wipe that sexy, smug grin off his face… I just hope my heart doesn’t forget he’s the enemy.
Crown Princess Academy: Book 1 is the first of a planned trilogy. As it is a series, there will be a cliffhanger. This is an upper YA/NA paranormal and fantasy series with enemies-to-lovers romance and HEA.

I could not wait to get my hands on this book since the first day I laid eyes on the cover!! It’s absolutely stunning! And this story is just everything! I read it in one sitting! It’s my favorite read by this author, and I have read all her books! I can not wait to get my hands on book 2!!
How the story starts was not what I expected but made a lot of sense once more of the story continued. I love fae but some can be so nasty and some good. Surprises and also a lot of adventure of heart stopping proportions cover from start to finish. I think this will be one fantastic series and a great ride.
Penne has her work cut out for her when she inadvertently is filled with Light magic, on top of her Dark magic, and ends up at the Crown Princess Academy. With her goal to bring the system down, her adventures in figuring out who she can trust and who she can’t gets pretty intense. I enjoyed this book.
Entrancing! A thrilling novel of fae, magic and so much more! I was swept up in this story from the start and the cliffhanger ending eek! I can’t wait for the next book!
I really enjoyed the concept behind this book. I am hoping for more world building in book 2 as things look like we are going to move into some large scale stuff based on the ending. I also enjoyed the fact that Penne didn’t just immediately fall head over heels for the prince and in fact doesn’t trust him at all. There’s magic, intrigue, death, and danger rolled into a complex world I want to know more about.
Enemies to lovers with a Fae Princes and Dark Magic King. Very enjoyable read, it does have some typos and a few minor plot holes but still worthy of a 4 rating. Can’t wait to read the next book to see where it goes
“I expected something more yet the story wasn’t bad just not great. The plot has lots of potential but sadly there’s nothing great about it. Confusing, random and not so logic. Kind of difficult to explain without giving details but there wasn’t a good perception of time. When Penne met Prince Lucas for the first time I was so excited about that moment it seems like there was going to be a hot relationship between them with the addition of the malice versus light but sadly there wasn’t at all. Prince Lucas was somehow different but yet as someone who wanted to changed how thing were working he could have try to save them all and not just one. I mean the whole “sacrifice a few for the greatest good” I get it but he could have try more and Penne well she lacked as FMC too. Plus if you (like me) are expecting romance and steam well that’s not gonna happen aside form a perv that has zero point, trust me. The attraction was there yeah but nothing else it was more like a game rather than something that could be a long term relationship. Lastly, that epilogue of was out of nowhere like seriously? What was the connection with the ending? Nothing al all! Or is it going to be a love triangle? Like I said, no sense at all.”
Penne and Lucas are completely different from each other in many ways (one being human and the other is Fae is the first one) but they do have some things in common. Both think that they are going to take advantage of the other but that changes when they see that they do have things that they both believe are right or wrong. Feelings are starting to change and surprises are around the corner for them. I do hope that we learn more about Penne’s childhood But otherwise this was an enjoyable read
Penne is from the Dregs and the most powerful Malice Caster. Now she’s forced to wear a crown and attend Crown Princess Academy. Lucas is the crown prince and he’s infatuated with Penne. Will he be shocked when he discovers her secret or does he already know it?
ARC received from author
From the synopsis this sounds like The Selection series with fairies. It isn’t at all. Despite the marriage competition it is really original and is more focused on the girl’s mastery of magic and less of marrying the prince.
I can’t say I loved this book, but I didn’t hate it. I enjoyed it. I’m not sure if I would read book 2. I would be interested in knowing where the story goes, but at the same time I already sense where it will go (rebellion, romance, etc.).
Some of my dislike of this book came from my confusion. I think this originated in the writing style. I found the book didn’t explain a lot of terminology when using it. The book started and I couldn’t get a clear image as to what was happening. In the end, I think better descriptions were needed. Once past the beginning, things cleared up for me. The Academy part of the story was interesting and fun. I enjoyed that; the classes, the building attraction between her and the prince.
I liked the main character’s spunk and really have no complaints about her, but I’m unsure how I feel about the prince. Despite his placement, I found he didn’t impact the story in a large way. The romance is still building, which I appreciate, so there wasn’t much there. He’s planning a rebellion with her, but tells her nothing except fail. I hope he plays a greater part in later books because really, this story could have existed without him. If she created the same plan, and knew how the drinks worked, then all the same events could have occurred.
All in all, good book. Enjoyable, but not great.
This book has everything I enjoy – fae, magic, romance, school, slight bullying, intrigues etc. I can claim with full assurance that somehow I’ve read enough books of this type to be self-proclaimed “expert”… at least in what I enjoy the most.
This book had it all to become one of my favourites, but unfo it didn’t make it. It is not bad, I like the heroine, the Crown Prince and Steel as well, the story is fine, just I can “smell” the influence of other books such as Kiera Cass Selection, some parts of Holly Black and the rest, which are set in the Academies. Another thing is that the “romance” between Penelope and the Crown Prince felt forced and not natural. In order it to be natural, a bit of additional situations where they both are concerned should have been made. Nevertheless, the book is still fine, easy-to-read and the storyline is not bad at all. With a bit of editing and Beta readers, second book could be a lot better.
*I received an ARC from the author’s team and expressed opinion is my own.
Good read. This author is new to me and I loved her writing style. Not a regular Princess story and I liked how this book is a mix of everything..Romance, Suspense filled, add in slight bullying plus all the secrets-definety a good story.Though the chemistry was dull at times between the leads it was overall a good read
love this storyline. A refreshingly new look at academy romance mixed with a hunter games vibe.
“I voluntarily received this book for an honest review”
Thank you for your review.
I received a complementary copy of this book from the Author and am leaving this review voluntarily and is my own opinion
As others have said at first you think this might be a lot like say the Selection Series but with Fae involved , but it’s so much more than that. I could tell instantly from the main character. She’s incredibly spunky and there were many moments I could relate to her. There are moments it can get a little confusing but it’s worth it if you can get past it. I look forward to the next installment
Who is Lucas? What is he? Why is he where he is? Who are Penelope, a.k.a. Penne, and Jilly? Where do we find them located? Oh goodness! When Penne is hired for a job, what happens? This was an exceptional read for a YA book. Even I as an adult was entranced by it. I cannot wait to see what the next book holds in store. Who will win Penne’s hand, so to speak?

Loving this series already!
This is definitely different from all Flower’s others works.
Devoured doesn’t even cover what I did. The worldbuilding is amazing. The characters are unique and relatable. As in if Fae were real and all. But they kept the pages turning and you honestly don’t even notice how much you’ve read. The pace obviously is fast but I didn’t find it lacking in anything.
Bring on book two!
This is honestly one of my new favorite books. I cannot put into words (I know, I’m an author- but this should help you understand just how much this book floored me!) but anyway, I’ll do my best. Prepare for a long review- much longer than I usually leave.
The characters are… well, I fell in love with them from the first page. It didn’t start anything like I expected, and the rest of the book did the same. I have to say, I was extremely pleasantly surprised with how it started (and, obviously, the rest of it). The female lead is kick-a**, stubborn, and confident. A breath of fresh air for sure! The male lead is intriguing and I very much enjoyed everything he did. Including toying with Penne, who had no idea that he knew her secret. The dynamic between these two is realistic, highly entertaining, and I found myself laughing out loud on a number of occasions (I’m normally a pretty stoic reader on the outside) from Penne’s wit, actions, and awkward situations.
I adore the characters.
The world this takes place in is just so flipping amazing as well!! From the Malice, which is well thought-out and amazing in and of itself, to the Light, to discovering there are multiple other realms that I expect will enter into the rest of the series (especially after that ending, which I’ll get to in a moment!)… just… holy cow.
Everything about this just blew me away. I knew it would be amazing after that first page, but good heavens, nothing could have prepared me for the detail, the perfect pacing… AJ does a praise-worthy job of sucking us into the world and having us walk through it with Penne, feeling the pain the Malice brings, yet our connection to it, her/our determination, feeling the… well, everything! The plot twists are to die for. Perfectly executed, almost painfully intriguing and exciting (because of the waiting)… ugh. This book is so fantastic it makes me feel like a poser as an author. AJ is the real deal!! I’m such a massive fan now. Can you tell? lol 🙂
My only negative feedback/warning. The ending felt like it wrapped up WAY too quickly. There was a time jump that I didn’t follow for nearly a page, so ended up being highly confused. The ending felt very rushed and under explained, which was disappointing, especially considering how dramatic it all was. Still, it was amazing and I am absolutely DYING for the next book. This is one of my new favorite series for sure. Highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend.
READ IT, DO IT! IT’S SOOOO GOOD!
So Good!
I couldn’t stop reading this story once I started. It’s so good! Definitely recommend this. I love the main character Penne! She’s so kick ass and strong. This story has Fae light and dark Malice which I find so interesting and fascinating! That ending was just Wow! I need to know what happens next please!
A fantastic read that grabs you from the first page to the last. The scenes are written so well that I can picture them in my minds eye. This is a real page turner with twists and turns that keeps you enthralled with this read. I definitely recommend this captivating read.
