Rule number one: Don’t piss off the dragon—or Sugar. When Katie Bishop is asked to join an elite Savannah society that guards the city against all the supernatural riffraff that blows into town on a regular basis, she can’t refuse. Especially when the city’s latest threat has targeted her to help it escape from an ancient book it’s been imprisoned in for over a century. You see, Katie isn’t your … Katie isn’t your average girl—she’s a bit of a beast and owns a tattoo shop at the edge of town. She’s also the only one who can tattoo a magical symbol on the demon’s back that will set it permanently free—and live to tell about it.
Trying to run a business and keep her secrets intact, Katie’s life is complicated enough. The easy thing would be to just apply the damn ink and be done with it, but there’s just one problem—the demon plans to open the crossroads and let all hell break loose. If that happens, the city might as well get used to serving a new master.
With the help of her best friend, Lady Sugar—the queen of Savannah with hoodoo in her blood, and a coven of eclectic witches, they’ll fight to take back their city.
No shrinking violets here. Maybe just a few misfits. Katie Bishop’s clan has plenty of heart and grit, and Sugar will have you rolling!
Typical urban fantasy? Not exactly.

Such an amazing author I cant get enough of the characters
very good
Gritty
a good fun read w/a good plot
i think i remember the title. i don’t think i finised it. was it incompatibility with the author or a bad plot? i don’t know
Great books and concept that is new, at least to me. If you like dragons with intelligence that are not the bad guys you will like this book. The characters and concept lends itself to allowing the author to do a lot with this series. Cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
I love this book. I really got into the characters quickly and had to buy the rest of the books in the series as soon as I finished the first one.
An excellent original tale. I especially enjoyed the variety of characters. I thought it was a dragon shifter story until the last chapter. It was a complete story but left me wanting to know more. As usual, I would prefer better proofreading.
I really enjoyed the story and characters. Interesting fantasy.
Sorry, could not get into it.
One of my new favorite characters! Every person in the book is well written and they make me miss living in Savannah. I didn’t think I would like this series because I don’t usually like dragon shifter books but after the 1st few pages I was hooked. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fast talking action.
Loved this book enough to buy book 2
This was enjoyable, but something about the main character seemed off so it was not as enjoyable as I was hoping. I wish I could be more precise, but it was enjoyable, just not sure I would want to read another one.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. Really enjoyed reading. Thanks BookBub
I laughed lt loud several times in this book. It was so good. A must read!!!
I enjoyed reading this book with its different story line and its interesting characters
Wow! I try a lot of the free books offered by Bookbub, looking for interesting new authors. Some I don’t even finish, some are kind of good, and every once in a while, one will grab me to the point I will actually go out and buy more from that author. This is one of those authors. Rich, satisfying story line, intriguing characters you would actually want to meet, with human flaws, and a world behind the ordinary world that just keeps surprising you! And it’s not some 150-page novella that some authors seem to think constitutes a full book. This is a well-crafted, full-sized novel with plots and sub-plots and well-developed secondary characters that sometimes play a surprisingly important role. And a satisfying ending that satisfies your need for a resolution to the story, while still leaving things open for the next novel in the series. I have already bought (and read) the second and third books in this series, and am currently reading the Fitheach Trilogy which is the series that came before this one. I can heartily recommend all of them!
Very entertaining. I got the other books as well.
Crossroads of Bones (A Katie Bishop Novel Book 1) Kindle Edition
by Luanne Bennett
I received a complimentary copy via NetGalley and am choosing to leave a fair and honest review.
I am huge fan of Urban Fantasy, particularly when it involves a hip and strong heroine with cool supernatural powers. Dragon shifter, Katie Bishop x’s all my boxes!
Katie is a dragonshifter tattoo artist who finds herself in the land of Hoodoo (not to be confused with Voodoo) and root magic in Savannah, Georgia when she mistakenly releases Legvu from his prison. She has to team with the local magical council to stop him from releasing his second soul and put him back where he belongs. She is also a sexually aware, adult woman who isn’t afraid to have sex without a commitment or a declaration of love. It’s nice to see that! It’s also nice to not have to put up with the shy but spunky virgin!
Her love interest, Jackson Hunter, is more than your average guy. He is a hot biker on the run from a catshifter family, so when he finds his woman becomes a dragon, we aren’t forced through the acceptance phase.
The side characters are interesting, and far from common. The transgender Star is fantastic although I did have a few teeth grinding moments when Star was referred to as ‘a man in a dress’ because that is clearly not correct. I love Star’s hoodoo granny who is delightfully anti-PC and more powerful than anyone realizes. The tattoo shop team is great but their uniqueness is a bit forced.
Hoodoo (a folk magic centered in the American South, Appalachians and Ozarks) is the main focus here, something we don’t see a lot of in paranormal literature. I also enjoyed the layers of mythology and magic floating in this book. For instance, Legvu has more than a passing relationship with Papa Legba, the voodoo lwa of the crossroads.
Although the climax was a bit disappointing (it felt as if Ms. Bennett had reached a word limit and was wrapping things up quickly) the book all in all is fun.
3 ½ stars rounded up to 4 out of 5

Crossroad of Bones follows Katie, a tattoo artist who moved from New York to Georgia and just wants to run her tattoo shop. Unfortunately for her, turns out she gave a tattoo to the wrong person. Well, wrong person inhabited by a god. Ok, half of a god. But still, not the kind of attention she was looking to attract. Now Katie has to protect herself and her friends from the other half of the god who wants the tattoo that will set him free. Which would be bad for everyone in town. Luckily, Katie is half dragon, and dragons protect what they claim.
Crossroad of bones was fine. It was a quick, easy read that didn’t slow itself down with expansive world building. The world is colored in as Katie encounters it. I liked the characters in general, but they could use some more filling in. Katie seems to fall into friendships-and into bed- with people without a lot of explanation. I think the book could have been 20% longer and taken a little more time to flesh out the characters. Hopefully the sequel will do some of that. I might recommend this book for fans of Dannika Dark or Katie Epstein.
